Title: 8/22 Astros @ Sea Hags Day Game!
Post by: MRaup on August 22, 2018, 03:23:50 pm
Astros scratch out 2 runs on a Tyler White RBI triple and a 2 out wild pitch.

2-0 Mid 1.

Interesting umpire tidbit of the day: Janson Visconti, the home plate ump today, is umpiring his 19th MLB game of all time. In his first 18, he's already ejected two people (AJ Pollock and John Gibbons). He blew both of the calls that led to the ejections.

On the otherhand, White is clearly comfortable playing his natural position.

So he fits right in?

I like the look on Altuve's face when he got rung up on that pitch that was 4 inches outside.

He just stiffened,  and walked deliberately away.  Not in a "you got me way" but in a "you blew that" way.

Gameday says Yuli doubled to right.

Spicoli out there in right almost made a spectacular diving catch toward the fence in right center, but the ball was jarred loose as he landed and got away from him. Yuli didn't realize what had happened, and was trotting to second instead of busting it, or he would've had a triple.

Title: Top of 3rd, 3-0 'Stros
Post by: Snuffy on August 22, 2018, 03:55:56 pm
Mariners have lost seven straight series to Houston; they are hoping to break that streak.
"Filthy" is how their announcers described Morton's 3rd called strike to end the 2nd inning, leaving runners on 1st (BB) and 2nd (1st hit and base runner of the game).
They started the 3rd showing a slow motion replay of that curve.

Top of 3rd, 3-0 Astros, same score 3-0 Rangers leading the A's.

Jansen the umpire shows some serious restraint after Carlos takes a ball off the outside corner and Zunino just flat at shows him up, then turns around and starts jawing at him.

I can't believe that didn't lead to a heave ho.

I am not familiar w/ the format and am more comfortable chiming in from time to time, but will give it a go until a "pro" arrives.  Milo's guaranteed, cause I only got a glance at the instructions.

Perfect Bottom of 3rd:
Popout, ground out, and K by Morton.
Still 3-0 going into the Top of 4th.

Rangers have added a run against the A's

He was fuming about the called 3rd strike in his AB that ended the 2nd.

Gameday said his was a strike,  and the Correa pitch was a ball.

So the Seattle trend of being bitches about balls/strikes continues.

It's a simple question, doctor. Would you eat the moon if it were made of ribs? process. Just type out what each guy does in as little or much detail as you see fit. Add your own flair to it. Have fun.

Top of 5th, 8-1 Astros
Reddick GO to Gordon @ 2B
Maldonado nailed it, a mile high, just cleared the fence - HR to Left, 9-1 Astros!
Kemp singles to LF
Bregman walks, Kemp to 2B
Altuve (ahem) grounds into DB. To end the inning.

Astros are 5 for 10 w/ RISP, 14 hit & 1 BB w/ only 5 LOB.

Bot 5th, Astros 9-1
Gamel called out on strikes (Out 1)
Zunino pops to Gurriel (Out 2)
Gordon on 2nd (Altuve missed his popup, Reddick fires it to Correa who catches the ball and touches Gordon at the same time – safe, ball not secure.  Crazy play!)
Hainger HBP, runners 1st & 2nd
Cano doubles in Gordon, Hainger to 3rd.  Bad hop for Gurriel.
Romine K

Going to top of 6th, 9-2 Astros!
Rangers-A’s - A’s scored one and left runners on 2nd & 3rd, but still the Rangers lead 4-1 (Top of 8th)

It’s weird to watch a pitcher dominate for long stretches and then just lose it out of nowhere.  Morton seems to do this a lot.

Perhaps the spirit of good sportsmanship so on display in Williamsport has infected the Astros too, such that having enjoyed a five-run inning at the Mariners expense they felt compelled to return the favor.

B6:

Cruz rockets a double to RCF
Span singles to RF, Cruz to 3B
Healy singles to CF, Cruz scores, Span to 3B
Gamel hit by pitch, Healy to 2B

Morton out, Smith in

Zunino flies out F8, everyone moves up on the sac fly...Span scores, Healy to 3B and Gamel to 2B
Gordon flies out F7, Healy scores on the sac fly, Marwin throws home and Maldonado whiffs at it as Gamel moves to 3B on the TE7
Haniger homers to LCF, Gamel scores

Smith out, Sipp in what’s now a save situation

Cano...3-0...3-1...grounds out 5-3

But Morton collapses, and it’s 9-7 Astros.

Can’t believe we cannot hold a 9–1 lead.

A.J. tried to let Morton pitch his way out of trouble with a 9-2 lead to start the 6th and it didn’t work.  Then the bullpen lit a match on everything.  Now it’s a game again.

Gameday said his was a strike,  and the Correa pitch was a ball.

So the Seattle trend of being bitches about balls/strikes continues.
Not sure which one you were looking at, but espn's gameday pitch map always shows a called strike as being in the zone, whether or not it really was.  I think mlb's uses the actual pitch location.

Gattis is a lumberjack. White is the Pillsbury Doughboy.

Wouldn't it be great if even a Pillsbury Doughboy could hit a baseball.....

That doughboy can mash when he wants.

The yahoos at 790 have taken to calling White "Big Puddin'".  Sparks has said it a few times now, calling the HR yesterday a "Big Puddin' Pop"!
