I want to meet the content professional who decided that dramatic slow mo replays of Tyler white sliding headfirst into second uncontested was the preferred highlight option while the announcers read the lineup.

Verlander with  1-2-3 first

Astros get a walk and a single, but strand them both.

No score after one

The LandOwner appears to want to demonstrate that his last outing was not the start of something bad.

My attsportsnet feed is about two minutes behind Gameday at mlb.com.

Three of us were streaming the England-Colombia match the other day at the office. We're all within 15 feet of one another, but there was a difference between our streams of about 2 1/2 minutes on the game clock.

I looked up the name Verlander the other night.  It literally translate to "pasture dweller".

I suppose you could describe a ball field as a pasture.

I've played in pastures before.  We had a field in Cleveland, NC that was actually pretty nice.  The owner grazed his horses in the outfield.

I remember Carlos Rodon was one of the names floated as a draft choice possibility but the Astros went with Brady Aiken. Is Aiken still in baseball? I saw no 2018 MiLB stats at baseball-reference,

'Verlander' denotes 'the dweller by or on the pasture land'.

After the Astros didn't sign him, Aiken went to IMG Academy, sort of a "post-grad" school for athletes.  He tore his UCL in the first inning he pitched, and had to have Tommy John surgery.  The Indians drafted him in 2015, and he's still in their system.  He was at low-A ball last year, but didn't do too well.  As far as I know he's still in the Indians' system, but I don't know for sure.

From a recent Jonathan Mayo Q&A:

"All reports were that he had a healthy offseason and was looking forward to turning a corner in '18. Then, he vanished. There's been no news of a particular injury, but there were things that needed to be addressed based on his '17 season. His stuff backed up, with a dip in velocity, his walk rate spiked and he missed fewer bats. Physically, he got bigger and had trouble repeating his delivery, which of course leads to command issues. So it's possible the Indians simply needed to hit a reset switch with him, hold him back in Arizona and almost start over again."

Yeah, I found all that too. But I couldn't find anything on Aiken playing anywhere in 2018. Nor did I find any info on if he is injured.

Word is his 97-99 mph velocity in high school has dropped to 88-90.  Perhaps that's just coming back from the surgery, but it's not a good sign.

I was, too. I don't understand the thought process behind not going for a traditional double play. I guess they were hoping for a home to first double play but it seems to me the more regular play is the better bet.

Anyway, I was 100% certain that Altuve was going to do what he did and I was 100% certain that Yuli would do what he did. I can't imagine I was alone in that.

With the bases loaded and a pitcher struggling with command, and no where to put him.  If he never swings the bat, he walks on four pitches and wins the game.

If I read correctly, Yuli, Bregman and Altuve are 1,2,5 in the AL in RISP respectively. That doesn't not really capture the order of magnitude I would prefer Yuli or Alex to Altuve.

Agree 100% with last paragraph.

They were playing to force the winning run at the plate. If they are back, and he chops one, game over. They were playing for one out at home, and if they get two home to first, celebrate. My thinking would be “we cannot count on a double play. Let’s be sure we force the guy at home.”

Kemp started it again.

I was reminded of the situation a year or so ago, when the Blue Jay and A's were tied in the 9th...Jays had the bases loaded, and either no body out or one out...batter hits  hard one-hopper right at the first baseman, who reaches out to try to tag the runner from first...umpire signals safe, no tag, so the first baseman throws home for what he thought was a 3-2 force.  Blue Jays challenge and say "wait a minute, looked like he tagged the runner from 1B".  So they reviewed it, and yep, overturned the ump's no tag call, meaning the runner at the plate was no longer forced...winning run scores.  Bob Melvin went ballistic, and protested the game, but eventually lost.  Just a crappy break.

Hopefully Springer's game-tying single can help him turn things around.  When you're going good, it seems every line drive drops, every ground ball has eyes.   When you're struggling, you blister the ball all over the yard right at people.  George has had some good swings that should have been hits.  Hopefully this puts a cap on it.

I know you hate Altuve for some reason, but at least get the facts right.  Late/Close, he's batting .308.  Runners in scoring position, .366 w/ .549 SLG, bases loaded, .429 w/ .714 SLG.

Although, based on your postings, his "clutch" stats are only counted by you when he fails.

Hate Altuve? No, I think he is a great person. I do hate lots of his ABs with the game on the line. You must not have been watching, but you can go back and read HH’s GZ comments in Tampa and the AB against the WS.

I think Altuve is a HOF hitter, but his propensity to chase pitches nine miles out of the zone, especially when a walk or a fly ball help the team, is a blemish on his greatness. Bases loaded, 9th inning, two out, down by one, give me Bregman or Yuli, not Altuve. I do not know the definition of close and late, but if after watching his bases loaded game on the line ABs at Tampa and Thursday’s CWS game, you were comforted by those stats, good for you. I guarantee you coaches and managers do not think that way in the context of a game. Those stats are relevant only to thinking/decisions about changes for the future.

I am thrilled he is on my team, but I do not like to see him in those situations. He seems to lack situational awareness or perhaps he does not give a flip about situations because all he wants is a hit. As I and others have said many times, if Altuve had Bregman’s plate discipline and approach, he would hit well over .400.

Fair enough. I just love Altuve, and I just get irked when I see (what I feel) is a pile-on of criticism when he happens to fail in some specific situation. I, too, wish he had Bregman’s discipline, but you can say that about most players. “If he didn’t swing at balls out of the strike zone, he’d hit better”

But no, I don’t think you hate the guy. I was just a bit upset at that moment.

You love him, which is part of the problem. He is great but could be far better.

Altuve has hit .156 over his last 26 at bats until last night.  He’s not just pushing with RISP, he’s slumping.

Gurriel!!!!

Walks it off with an RBI single!

Astros win 4-3

During end of the walk off celebration, a teammate got carried away by throwing white powder on Gurriel's face, dangerously close to his eyes.  Surely it wasn't lime.
Yuli was dusting himself off around 18:15 on this clip. https://www.mlb.com/video/astros-rally-in-9th-to-win/c-2237679583
(Was it Marisnick?)

Not the first time I've seen someone on the team do that.
