Need to break out of the funk, boys. Swing the fucking bats!!!
-
Keuchel in The House of Horrors. My expectations are low tonight.
Geez, 102 degrees at game time.
-
There we go: already infinitely better RISP avg than in the Tampa series.
-
Bases loaded when Stassi gets hit by a pitch on his wrist...McCann already on the DL, so hopefully Max is OK...anyway...bases juiced for Marwin...
-
T1:
Springer pops out F3
Bregman singles to RF
Altuve...hacking...bunts right out in front of the plate, out 1-3, Bregman to 2B
Gurriel doubles to LCF, Bregman scores...firs hit w/RISP in five games...that/s for the whole team, not just Yuli
Gattis...full count...walks
Reddick lines a double off the top of the RF wall, Gurriel scores, Gattis to 3B
Stassi hit by pitch on his wrist...trainer out...
Marwin flies out F8
Astros leave the bases loaded, but score two...2-0
-
That was too bad about Reddick's ball. Two feet higher and it's a 4-0 lead.
-
Well shitfuck. Stassi out. Federowicz in

Andrus...0-2...strikes out swinging
Mazara...0-2...1-2...2-2...strikes out looking
2-0 Astros

Yeah, it looked bad. Luckly, it was the inside of the wrist, which is more fleshy and less bony. But I'm sure it hurts like a motherfucker. There was already a big swollen knot on his wrist. I'm sure they want to get him off the field and start some treatment.
-
Good evening, all.
Last year when Mrs Banedoodle was out of town I got a bit tipsy with (or at least in front of) the ladies and gentlemen of the GZ while making “paella”. Tonight I've already grilled and consumed a ribeye and some broccoli. Sierra Nevada’s Southern Gothic Pilsner and Highland Daycation IPA so far on tap.
FWIW, I’ve been feeling very good about DK for tonight’s game all day. Which I have not felt all year.
-
Somebody hip-mo-tized Keuchel into believing it was already the second inning and he strikes out the side.

When the cat's away, eh?
No need for modesty around here. I typically take my pants off while doing PBP.

Bregman missed two fat ones so far. Fortunately they've gone out of play.
ETA: But the third one didn't. Damn.
-
If you're a pitcher who's struggling with command, Altuve is the cure for whatever ails you.
-
T2:
Kemp draws a leadoff walk
Springer hit by pitch, Kemp to 2B
Bregman...trying to hit a 9-run home run, pops out F2 behind the plate
Altuve...doesn't bunt this time...but probably should have as he reaches for a pitch 8 feet off the plate and flies out F9
Gurriel strikes out looking
Thud.
2-0 Astros

The unofficial motto of the GZ may be “you’re not drinking alone if you’re logged in as a registered user and the bitching about your grammar, punctuation, and general quality of your posts will be less so than in other places, so drink up” or something like that if you’re not into the whole brevity thing.

Federowicz does not look good back there. Hopefully, it's a short time.

Odor took 5 strikes for a 3-2 count and then grounded out for the first non-strikeout out of the night. I think this ump is going to piss me off before the night is over.
-
B2:
Beltre strikes out looking
Odor...3-1 on four balls in the zone...3-2 on a pitch worse than the other four, but still a strike...grounds out 3U
Rua...0-2...strikes out looking
2-0 Astros
-
Keuchel with five strikeouts, should have been six. His career high is eight.

Boras must have had a sit-down with Keuchel and told him "son, you're costing both of us a lot money".
-
Guzman moves like a baby giraffe.
-
Keuchel getting squeezed like a motherfucker.
-
B3:
Chirinos strikes out swinging
Guzman singles to LF
Deshields doubles over Springer's head on the first pitch hanging curve, Guzman scores
Choo...3-0...walks on a pitch squarely in the zone...in fact, two of the four pitches were strikes
Andrus flies out F9 on a nice running catch by Reddick in foul territory, Deshields tags and moves to 3B
Mazara grounds out 3U on the first pitch
5-1 Astros
-
OK...someone else gotta do PBP...gonna fire up the pit and get the brisket on

Is there a tale of acrimony and woe about the Dutch East India company’s sponsorship of your forebearer’s voyage to the New World that has only been passed down through the many generations of family lore and not written in the history books?

Jesus, you’re right...

I would love to see—but of course do not have the wherewithal to look up myself—a break down of Marwin’s average in the first half of his at bats vs. the second.

I hate the Dutch.
Dutch is OK unless you have to pronounce it.

I’m listening to the TV feed for practically the first time all year. Is this Eschenfelder on PBP, or who?

One MEEELION miles per hour.

My son is an airplane fanatic and one of his favorite airlines is KLM. Hey, I thought, I'll learn what KLM stands for and how to pronounce it and surprise him with it. Three hours later I'm like, Fuck that.

My last name is German-Dutch. It serves as an outstanding early warning system for people I don't want to talk to. Although it's particularly jarring when somebody I don't recognize pronounces it correctly, as happens when return to visit extended family.

Couple of shiftfuck hits for the Rangers plate another run...5-2 Astros after five.

Ancestors with the name traced to the Netherlands and NW Germany. Hard to tell where the name originated.
That was the single worst swing I've seen Altuve take, and that's saying something.

Probably Ost-Friesen then.

Altuve hasn’t swung at a strike in a week.
Only about 4 inches between a double and a double play on that one, though.
-
Isn’t Verlander Dutch?
-

Flemish.
-

The name sure seems like it. How far removed from actual Dutch relatives, I have no idea.
-
Isn’t Verlander Dutch?
I’ve been thinking about his name. Would it mean True Lander or Green Lander?
-
Wow, Reddick screwed on a great catch by Rua.
-
Jesus Christ, so much incredible outfield defense against the Astros recently.
ETA: this run of Alex Gordon, Keirmaer/Smith and Rua has been ridiculous.
-
Man, those flags are whipping.

I have a black hole in my fandom from about between 2006 - 2010. It still really weirds me out to hear that Ivan Rodriguez was an Astro.

Worse than the 3-2 bases loaded K in Tampa, which was his previous worst.

Land owner.

Frazier v. Verlander bad.

Frazier v. Verlander bad.
It was very similar.

Land owner.
Interesting—thanks.
-
Frazier v. Verlander bad.
Far worse than that. Frazier was protecting on a breaking ball that was a strike. Altuve made up his mind he was hacking when the pitcher was in the stretch. That ball could have been in the 1B dugout and Jose be hackin'.

Did Bregman’s on-base streak get snapped?

Nah. He didn’t have the chance to get under it because of the shift. He would have had to run full speed into a low brick wall to have a low probability chance.

Yes, but not too many games ago they were talking about how he’d reached base in 30- or 40-some odd games.

Looked to me like he could’ve reached out and snagged it from where he stopped, but was preoccupied with the wall. He looked at the wall before looking up and that cost the out. I didn’t see a replay, though.

Jesus, Devo, nice job.

Devo out...Sipp in...

Nice Yuli.

5-3 on diving stop by Yuli...Rangers at the corner, two out...

That was an uncomfortable half inning.

Springer works a leadoff walk...need to try to punch a run or two across here...
-
And Bregman lines into a double play on the first pitch
What luck.
-
Hinch challenging appeal play at 1B...
-
Springer didn't look quite so lost tonight. Maybe he's breaking out of the slump. Bad luck with the two DP's, though. Odor taps one off the end of the bat and gets an RBI, Bregman beats the shit out of two balls and produces four outs.
-
Kevin Eschenfelder tries but he's quite a drop off. Besides Brownie, who else do they have to fill in for TK?

Upheld..,double play

Seems like they’ve squared up enough balls to have double digit runs tonight.

I think the first DP was Altuve.
Yes, I think you're right. My bad.

Altuve is fucking lost.

There used to be a pbp guy on the farm everyone was very excited about, but maybe he was in Lancaster and stayed there.
Gee whiz, it’ll be nice when Correa and Altuve get back.

No, not Capps. Young guy. Interesting.

Two away...
-
Why does he hurry that. Damn it.
-
Choo hits one up the middle, Marwin with a diving stop, gets up and has plenty of time as Choo is jogging down the line, but throws it into the fence...throw beat Choo by about five steps. Ruled a hit, but I call that an TE6.
Tying run at the plate.
-
Shit, Marwin.
Choo is hurt and can’t run.
-
Fuck, Marwin, keep track of who the batter is. He could have "Priscilla, Queen of the Desert"ed that ball over there and still gotten Choo.
-
Not Marwin’s year.

Internal clock said he had to hurry, but Choo can't run. He had plenty of time.

I'm gonna have a beer and a victory cigar while I watch the pit.

Yes, he has. He seems to be pretty unflappable. If something goes wrong behind him, he just shakes it off and concentrates on the next guy.

I lost track of this game and couldn't work out why the pitcher was hitting... makes sense now though.

Rays plate five runs in the top of the 16th, including an RBI by the pitcher, Vidal Nuno...who immediately pulled his hamstring running to 1B, and had to leave the game.
I was reminded of the top of the 9th in Game 7 last November, when CFM strode to the dish...only thing I was thinking was "whatever you do, don't swing the fucking bat!"

While I would be happy to be back in the NL, I’ve grown to love the DH. Part of that for me is the realization that it isn’t going anywhere so I might as well embrace it. To me, more important than anything, is that both leagues play by the same rules. It is mind boggling that a professional league of any type allowed 2 different rules and allows those rules to impact its championship. Can you imagine an NFL with a tight end in one league and no tight end in the other? And when the super bowl is played you flip coin to see which team is home to determine if you can or can’t use that tight end? How about an NBA where one conference allows a center and the other doesn’t? It’s is shit-faced stupid! Go ahead and put the DH in the NL and let’s play. After a month no one will miss pitchers batting.
