2-0 Rays, nobody out in the 1st..
-
Did Verlander grow a long beard and get a bunch of tats?
-
After one...Astros in a 3-0 hole.
-
HBP, two bloops then BAM
ETA: Ramos is wearing us out.
-
ETA: Ramos is wearing us out.
No kidding. I'm ready to be done with him.
-
T2:
Reddick with a broken bay flair in to shallow LF, and Wendle with a spectacular diving catch.
White strikes out swinging
Marwin flies out F7
3-0 Rays
-
JV needed to be really good today with this patchwork lineup.
-
After a 30-second rest, Verlander heads back out to the mound for the bottom of the 2nd.
-
Man, more shitty luck.
-
is JV getting squeezed? hard to tell from here.
-
is JV getting squeezed? hard to tell from here.
A little bit, but he seems like he's jerking a lot of pitches.
-
Rays with the bases loaded for Ramos...again...
Twice in his Astros career Verlander had the bases loaded...both times today...both times facing Ramos...
-

Not really. Numerous close pitches, but I wouldn't say he's getting squeezed. More like just missing.
-
Rays with the bases loaded for Ramos...again...
Twice in his Astros career Verlander had the bases loaded...both times today...both times facing Ramos...
and twice he’s burned
-
Ramos with a seeing eye ground ball drives in another pair...5-0 Rays
-
B2:
Gomez flies out F9
Hechavarria check swing tapper in front of the plate, McCann pops out and grabs it, throws on for the 2-3
Kiermaier grounds to 2B, Altuve with a diving stop, but can't get much on the throw as White sort of dances around, not sure which foot goes on the bag, Kiermaier with the infield hit.
Duffy...full count...check swing tapper out towards the mound, Verlander slides to grab it, but can't get Duffy...another infield single, Kiermaier to 2B
Bauers...full count...walks, Kiermaier to 3B, Duffy to 2B
Ramos singles up the middle...Kiermaier scores, Duffy scores, Bauers to 3B
Wendle strikes out swinging
5-0 Rays
-
52 or so pitches through two innings. Second start in a row where he's had trouble finishing guys off.
-
T3:
McCann carved up on three pitches
Marisnick flies out F9
Springer strikes out looking
Verlander gets only 28 seconds between innings this time
5-0 Rays
-
Springer now 3 for his last 60
-
Springer now 3 for his last 60
Damn...
-
Damn...
Since June 10th, he's driven in one run.
-
Since June 10th, he's driven in one run.
perhaps a few more nights off. cant be much worse.
-
Springer now 3 for his last 60
Going in to today, he's 81/324, for a .256 average. If you think he'll get about 300 more ABs and finish the year in his usual .270 territory, that means he has to go about 88/300 (.293) over the rest of the season. I hope he gets on with it soon.
-
B3:
Roberston...0-2...singles to LF
Cron strikes out swinging
Gomez...0-2...balks on a swing and a miss...so Robertson to 2B, and Gomez gets another swing...and misses that one
Hechavarria...pops down the RF line...Springer runs it down and gets a glove on it, but it bounces off as he tumbles into the stands...and Hechavarria swings and misses the next pitch for the K
5-0 Rays
-

He'll break out of it at some point. But boy it hurts in the mean time.
-

When the slump started, he was hitting .294.
-
it sucks that this is a pretty sewn-together lineup too.
-
When the slump started, he was hitting .294.
That would have a nice symmetry to it, if he would get going.
-
T4:
Bregman pops out F3 in foul territory
Altuve flies out F8
Gattis...works the count full...strikes out swinging
5-0 Rays
-
Ty are you in 109?
-
The, are you in 109?
Yes sir. Row Y. With the lovely Susan.
-
That would have a nice symmetry to it, if he would get going.
He'd have to go 96 for 300 (.320) to get his average back up to where it was three weeks ago.
-
Where are y’all, Neil?
-
B4:
Kiermaier strikes out swinging
Duffy with a broken bat flair to RCF
Bauers...0-2...with a flair into RF, Springer with a diving catch coming straight in
Ramos drills one towards the middle...Altuve knocks it down, but Ramos doesn't bother to run and Altuve picks up, takes his time, counts the laces, smokes a cigarette and lobs the ball towards 1B as Ramos is getting out of the box...score it 4-3
5-0 Rays
-

I'd be happy if he just hit .293 the rest of the way.
-
By the way, where's Davis? I don't really understand why White and Reed are up and Davis isn't.
-
By the way, where's Davis? I don't really understand why White and Reed are up and Davis isn't.
Not sure. Want him to play every day, I guess.
-
it’s offensive to call this an offense...
-
T5:
Reddick doubles to RCF
White...0-2...1-2...2-2...3-2...flies out F7
Marwin flies out F7
McCann...0-2...Reddick walks to 3B as nobody was within 100 feet of 3B on the shift...grounds out 3U
5-0 Rays
-
God, another batshit-crazy hit. Not our day.
-
Fuck, Snell tomorrow. He dominated us last time out.
-
B5:
Wendle chops one off the plate that bounces 50 feet high, but 20 feet from the plate...Verlander comes in to field it, but can't get Wendle...the old 20 ft infield single
Robertson pops out F3 near the stands
Cron...0-2...pops out F6
Gomez strikes out swinging
5-0 Rays
-

-
The 2-out RISP performance has dipped considerably.
-
B6:
Harris in...
Hechavarria taps off the plate out in front of the mound, McCann quick to it and barely nips the runner 1-3
Kiermaier strikes out swinging
Duffy...0-2...takes one right down the middle for ball one...what the fuck...2-2...grounds out 5-3
5-2 Rays
-
I can understanding missing calls on the edges, but how do you miss that call? The strike zone is not a fucking donut.
-
The 2-out RISP performance has dipped considerably.
Not having Correa or Gurriel was glaring that inning.
-
I hope some of the AAA guys have value at the deadline.
We have a depleted lineup, and Springer and Marwin are slumping.
-
T7:
McCann grounds out 3U
Marisnick...0-2...strikes out swinging
Springer...3-2...strikes out swinging at ball five
5-2
-
B7:
Sipp in...

Cron...0-2...1-2...2-2...pops out F3 in foul territory
Gomez singles to RCF
Hechavarria lines to RF, Springer with a diving catch!
To the 9th...Astros need to score thrice
-
Gomez getting a shiftfuck hit is insult on top of injury.
-
On defense the last two days also
Yep. This was a series set up for failure, and really needed Verlander to shut them down today. Everything that could go wrong, did.

JV’s day was marred by bloops and infield hits and decently struck balls which found open spaces. Perhaps he had some bad luck coming.
-
Is there a lower energy place in MLB than Tropicana?
-
T9:
Romo in to try to close it out for the Rays...
Reddick...full up...chops to 2B...Hechavarria fields it and flips to 1B to barely nip Reddick
White grounds out 6-3 on the first pitch
Marwin grounds out 4-3
5-2 Rays is the final.
-
Is there a lower energy place in MLB than Tropicana?
The joint buzzes when the yanks or fucking sox are in town.

It's like watching a baseball game in a gymnasium.
-
We were in town visiting my sister-in-law couple years ago and saw a Rays-A’s game. The Rays with a win would’ve set a record I think for consecutive home victories. It was a good game but when somebody tied it late and the tenth rolled around I was ready to leave. It’s still the only time I’ve ever gotten sick of being at an MLB game. Just an utter shithole of an experience.

That’s too kind. It’s like watching a game in an airplane hangar.

It's not THAT bad. Some of you must not remember the Astrodome. That was a lousy place to see a baseball game too.
