Coldest game time temperature in Astros history.
No score after one
-
Those first three Astros’ ABs were not encouraging.
-
I love Charlie Morton. (Literally.)
-
They players were all over twitter once they found out the roof was open. Looking on the bright side of things, I guess it's good prep for Minnesota.
-
Couple of 2-strike singles, and the Padres have runners on the corners, two out...
-
Marwin seemed unusually close to first base still on Galvis’s single.

He was holding the runner.
-
Yes, but don’t they spring off once the pitch is thrown? He still appeared to be standing on first.
-
That Minnesota cold isn’t going to help our bats. Let’s hope last year’s Minnesota magic is in effect again.
-

Yeah, but you don’t spring off very far. I guess I didn’t notice he was particularly close. Maybe he was.
-

The next three were even less so. Ugly.
-
I am watching sans commentary, what’s the explanation being given for keeping the roof open? Is it warming up a lot, and can they not open it during the game? (Odd that I have no idea if they can or not after all these years.) Seems like the worst possible time to keep an offensively slumping team cold.

Explanation is they want the roof open whenever possible. And when it’s said a team is “cold”, it means they’re not hitting. It doesn’t mean the hitters are physically cold temperature-wise.
-
Remember when they used to known for vaunting.
-
Fisher with a 70-ft chopper for the Astros first hit of the game.
-
Pretty pathetic first trip through the order.
-
A hit! Why, those are rarer than a Trump Tower sprinkler.

Yes, I’m aware of the distinction between metaphorical cold and measurable cold. But the weather—according to my own purely anecdotal researches so far this year—seems also to suppress offense.

Is that a euphemism for Trump’s enthusiasm for water sports, or do you mean literally?

When it’s 20 degrees perhaps, but not when it’s 60. In fact, it’s probably a hitter’s advantage on a cool day like this.

I’ve been too busy working on the tractor and watching baseball. And drinking. Guess I should check in every couple of days with that guy in the White Housev

Oh, it’s 60? Then wtf’s everyone complaining about? Never mind. Nothing to see here.
-
The shift has worked against the Astros three or four times this series.
-

54-56, something like that an hour or so ago. Up to about 60 now, I think. It’s not like it’s freezing.
-
How the fuck was Molina not ejected? Goddamn it I hate everything about the Cardinals.
-
wish I could see the game. bats cold? good pitching? on paper the Padres are not that good
-
Bats frozen.
-
Not hyperventilating or anything, but were we ever this bad for any stretch last year? Even in August?
-
Through four...no score and this is as pathetic as the Astros have ever looked offensively, including during the dark days.
-
Never mind hits. Very few good swings.
-

Working ON the tractor, or working on the tractor? One of those is a heck of a lot more fun than the other.
-

Little of both. Shredding the pasture, but I’ve got a fuel leak somewhere. Will have to remove the cowl to find it.
-
Astros cut down a runner at the plate on a nice play by Correa and Stassi.
-
Throwing dudes out at home never gets old.
-
Reddick finally puts a good swing on one for a lead off single in the 5th. Now let’s get it going boys. Rattle those bats.
-
Marwin follows up with a sharp single! Two on, nobody out...
-
WooHoo, wild is the pitch...2B and 3B now...
-
Gattis is all out of sorts: I’ve never seen someone so uncomfortable in the box.

-
Gattis pathetically taps one on the ground on ball four...one out now
-
Stassi! Breaks the ice.

-
Stassi!
3-run tater!
-
Fuck yeah!! Stassi!
-
MAD MAX!!!!!

I believe you said this before.
-
I'm listening on the radio - assume Gattis would've been a DP without the wild pitch?
-
Hang ‘em, and bang ‘em
-
So one of my favorite parts of ST this year was hearing some girls sing “Happy Birthday” to Stassi one day. At the climax they said “Happy birthday dear Stassi...” I think of that now whenever he comes up.
-

Maybe not hit hard enough. Would’ve been close.
-

Maybe. Softly hit. It also was ball four.
-
I like Stassi’s glove work behind the plate.
-
Bregman with another E5...two on, nobody out

Radio guys were just commenting on it

Yes, would have been real easy to run Molina right there. Not sure what was said to him but perhaps it was pretty egregious and that is why the ump didn’t run him???? Having said that, Molina’s actions almost made that situation get out of hand. You would think there would be some consequences for that.

If he could hit .220-.230, with 8-10 HRs, he’d see a lot of PT.
-
Morton looks tired.

4-pitch walk puts Padres on all bases, one out...
-
Boy, I don't know why the Padres didn't challenge that.
-
Ground bal to SS...flip from Correa a little high, so no chance at two...run scores on two soft rollers.
-
Can’t believe the Friars didn’t challenge that.

Another unearned run...is that three in the last four games?
-
Glad they didn't
-

It’s six in the homestand.
-
I like Stassi’s glove work behind the plate.
Same. He's better than I remember him being.
Good luck with the tractor. The running joke (but not a joke) around here is that you need to fix the thing that you need to do the thing that you started out to do in the first place. Sometimes there's another fix the thing in there too.
-
WOOOO!!
-
I believe you said this before.
Correa is pretty fucked up right now too. He’s consistently late on 90-mph fastballs and can’t recognize a breaking pitch to save his life. Wonder if that foot is still bothering him
As Reddick goes deep!
-
Correa is in a tiny dark hole, and his only company is Altuve. And Springer. And Gattis.
But not Reddick!
-
Got that run back.
-
Springer out of the game. No word as to why. Jake in CF.

I think he hurt himself on the infield hit.

Didn’t catch anything, but that would explain.

I wonder if Bregman’s got the World Series hangover.

I don’t think so. Just a slump.
-

I thought so at the time. He stayed so I decided I was wrong.
-
Harris working from the windup this year.
-

Very inconsistent on defense. Apparently, he never hits in April.
-
I don’t think so. Just a slump.
His defense is in a slump too. No one worked the WS winning circuit harder than he did.
-
I find myself very envious of Max Stassi’s hair.

And his footwork. I was a good “drop and block” catcher like he is, but my footwork was terrible.

What happened?

TV guys spent the entire half inning talking about what Julia is bringing to Minny in her luggage.

Well?

Well?
Really cold weather shit, cold weather shit, and normal shit. Blum said here suitcase weighed 75lbs, apparently he got to carry it.
Ashby wasn't there so I can't give you any more than that.
-

Some spectacular plays but errors too.
-
Closer Brad Peacock.
-
Astros win!
5-1 home stand.
-
Yes!! Nice win.
-
We need a LH DH to give Gattis some help. When is the earliest Tucker can come up?
Yuli’s coming back will help this lineup immensely. Davis will go down. If/when Tucker comes up, someone will have to go.

That someone would be Fisher.
-
Any word on Springer in the post-game?
-
That someone would be Fisher.
Our 4 and 5 starters are ridiculous. Our rotation is. To go 5-1 on a homestand in which we give up six unearned runs and can’t hit our way out of a paper bag for four games is ridiculous.
-
Any word on Springer in the post-game?
Not so far. I am worried about his annual quad injury.
-
Hinch: “Leg soreness. He’ll probably be able to play tomorrow.”

Mentioned DH possible for him tomorrow.
-
If not WS hangover maybe some WS banner-raising/ring-getting/homefan-adulation hangover with the bats.
The hurlers, on the other hand are freaking dialed in.
-
What happened?
Absolutely should have been tossed. Used the ump as a tackling dummy. ETA: maybe more like a blocking sled.

Julia tweeted: Springer reported leg stiffness/soreness after his infield single but AJ says he’s fine. With Marisnick on the bench, they decided to be cautious. Planned on DHing him tomorrow in MIN.

I think we need more than one listless weekend before we start talking about WS hangovers. However, you're right about a whole lot of external distractions during this homestand.

If a "hangover" means winning at an .800 clip, I'll take that every morning. You're not going to score 8 runs every game. You're not going to sweep every series. Winning close games, extra innings games, games where you don't hit/pitch particularly well is a requirement for a great season.
