One run in the last 14 innings.
-
Balls!
-
That worked out nicely.
Now let's explore that idea about runs for the home team.
-
Astros with the bases drunk and two out for Bregman...
-
I don’t know how in the hell Springer let that last pitch go by! It was off the plate but not by much. Great patience.

T6:
Galvis pops out F5
Hosmer strikes out looking
Villanueva...0-2...flies out F9
No score still
-
Bregman is as cold as ice.
If you add Springer's and Bregman's batting averages together, it's still lower than Altuve's.
-
Will Cole pitch the seventh? He's at 89 pitches.
-
Third straight inning the Astros draw a leadoff walk. Need to start making someone pay.
-
WTF. BBQ funnel cake?
-
Three walks this inning...can someone please punch a run across
-
Third straight inning the Astros draw a leadoff walk. Need to start making someone pay.

Gattis just doesn’t look comfortable at the plate. Last night and tonight, he’s watched gut fastballs to get down 0-2.

-
Damn. Cole deserved better than this offensive shit show.
At least Springer swung at strike 3.
-
Springer looking like the 2014 version so far. And can Gattis hit if he doesn’t catch?
-
I'm resigned to idea that Springer will always have these periods where he swings out of his shoes. They're less frequent nowadays, but still around. But he'll soon have an AB where he shoots one oppo and his slump will end.
-
I will not overreact. I will not overreact. I will not overreact. I will not overreact. I will not overreact. I will not overreact. I will not overreact.
-
T8:
Harris in for the Astros...
Margot grounds out 6-3
Pirela strikes out swinging

Hosmer takes a strike for ball one...what the fuck is wrong with this ump...ball two in the dirt...2-1 now...taps back to the mound...1-3
Still 0-0
-
I will not overreact. I will not overreact. I will not overreact. I will not overreact. I will not overreact. I will not overreact. I will not overreact.
Every team goes through slumps. That it's against the garbage that is the San Diego Padres' staff is not encouraging.
-
Ok, ok.
NOW let's score some runs.
-
B8:
Yates in for the Pads...
Bregman takes ball one...and the manager and trainer are out...
And Yates is out after throwing one pitch...Makita in...he'll get as long as he wants to warm up...
And Bregman eventually singles to RF
Altuve...down 0-2...1-2...strikes out swinging at a pitch over his head...literally
Correa lines to 1B, Bregman doubled off
No score
-
Correa has now made 7 of the Astros 24 outs in this game, hitting into three double plays.
-

Odd pitching change.
-
So that's dumbass base running, boys and girls.
-
Shocked the Padres didn't try to bunt that leadoff double to 3B
Yeah, I'm not sure what they're thinking there.
It's very telling that the Astros are bringing in Devo to close out Giles' mess.
-
Shocked the Padres didn't try to bunt that leadoff double to 3B
Agree HH, especially with the amount of fly balls that it seems like Giles gives up, you would think you would want that runner at third with less than two.

Odd pitching change.
Left handed hitter due up. The COD works best against them.
-
T9:
Giles in...
Villanueva doubles to RCF on the first pitch
Asuaje flies out F7
Renfroe chops to 3B, and Villanueva runs right into the tag...Renfroe to 1B on the FC
That's all for Giles...Devenski in...
Spangenberg grounds out 4-3 on the first pitch
To the bottom of the 9th...still no score
-
Vote of no confidence for Giles.
-
We are a fastball hitting team and the last two nights it looks like our game plan has been to see just how many per game we can watch go by. Sheesh....

Vote of no confidence for Giles.
Giles probably warrants a dedicated TZ thread.
Or we could wait a month and see how things shake out but that defeats the purpose of being baseball fans.
-
This has been one seriously pathetic showing on offense the last 2 nights.
-
B9:
Erlin in for the Padres
Reddick takes two meatballs...down 0-2...1-2...2-2...strikes out swinging
Marwin...hitting from the starboard side...grounds out 6-3
Gattis takes strike three right down the middle
Extra baseball because the Astros can't swing the fucking bat
-
Gattis is a fucking wasteland right now.

I agree. He looks totally lost up there. Put Davis in the DH. At least he’ll swing the fucking bat I’ll bet because his job is on the line.

One of at least three.
-
One of at least three.
The problem there being he is the designated hitter, at least the other guys are playing some defense.
-
This has been one seriously pathetic showing on offense the last 2 nights.
One extra base hit in the last 26 innings.

Jake crushed it but right at the CF. 1 out Fisher still on 2nd.

No. Not even close.

Fuck.
-
Damn, I thought George won it

It should not be this hard to score a single fucking run off the Padres.
-
Springer crushes a liner off the scoreboard about 1 foot foul. Then strikes out on a changeup. 2 out Fisher still on 2nd.
-
Up to Bregman...winning run at 2B, two out...
-
Cmon Bregman Fisher combo
-
Gutsy take on ball 3
-
wow way to close to take that pitch. and it was a strike that was called a ball.

I have never ever ever seen a game end that way before. WTF.

B10:
McCann...who left his blood in the camera well...singles through the shift!
Fisher in to pinch run for McCann
Fisher caught stealing 2-6...didn't get much of a jump...Hinch challenging...replay looks safe, but don't know if there's enough to overturn...overturned! Winning run in scoring position...credit Fisher with a stolen base
Marisnick...works the count full...lines out to LCF...no chance for Fisher to tag...hit it hard, but right at 'em
Springer takes a fat pitch right down the middle for strike one...1-1...2-1...3-1...hammers one down the LF line...about three inches foul...full count...strikes out swinging at ball four
Erlin out, Maton in...
Bregman...quickly down 0-2...1-2...2-2...works the count full...pops up over the mound...everyone converges, but no body catches it as it lands about 15 feet in front of the plate...Fisher comes around and scores, on what I assume whill be an E3
Astros Win!!
-
Just like you draw it up...
Wow. A win's a win.
-
looked like a lob wedge straight up in the air. Pitcher and catcher, we're not getting it. Hosmer, oh shit I better bust it in. Oops, I over ran it. Ah that's unfortunate.
-
I love how Bregman mentions McCann going over the wall in the post game interview.

Bregman credited with a single and an RBI...why, I have no idea. But no matter the home town scoring...walkoff win!!

That's 2012 Astros right there.
Two few infielders involved.
-
Sorry Julia, Alex is not the hero, Eric Hosmer is the goat or maybe their catcher should have had that popup.

That's Hosmer's ball. He overran it by about 6 feet. But it's his ball.

I was trying to explain to my wife how bad that was, and that was the best way to explain it. Like that one hilarious play from that year.
-
That's Hosmer's ball. He overran it by about 6 feet. But it's his ball.
True dat, but I would at least like my catcher to get into position to make that catch and have Hosmer call him off.

Yep, It was just hilarious that he realized it way to late and completely overran the play. I wonder how much of a kangaroo fine that will be? I'm assuming most teams have kangaroo courts still.

“The Bunt.”
-
The Colombian place?
Yes
-
The way the previous 18 innings had gone, we really needed that. Weird win, but a win nonetheless. Cole's a beast. The bats will wake up. It's all good.
Also, good things continue to happen with Bregman up and Fisher on second. There is some magic in that combination.
-
Thanks for the PBP. Not going to lie: I’m pretty happy to have spent 15 minutes reading the thread instead of 3 hours watching this one thanks to an out of town wedding.
The MLB app push notification I received during the reception that said the Astros won when Bregman singled home Fisher conjured up images of the WS in my mind. It turns out this was different... very different. Oh well, a win is a win, particularly when it’s not a second straight loss to MFing Friars.

Hosmer: Just overran it. I put my head down trying to make up some ground. By the time I looked up, it was past me. It's on me.
Ellis: It was in that no-man's land. In hindsight, I should have more aggressively went for it and gave us another option out there. I put Hos in a bad position having to run full speed. Definitely something I should have went for, been out there in the mix. No excuse.
-
One run in the last 14 innings.
Hinch:
I love the way that he thinks through the game and also executes the game plan. If he doesn't like a pitch, he stepped off a couple of times. He's just a very, very impressive, high-end starting pitcher. That makes us feel good when he gets the ball. We feel completely in control of the game.
-
Yeah, I'm not sure what they're thinking there.
It's very telling that the Astros are bringing in Devo to close out Giles' mess.
No, no, no. He brought in Devo to pitch to the LH hitter. I suspect that was the plan before the inning started.
-
I'm thinking I need a Cole jersey. I really liked his pitching. He seems like a great pick-up. In Luhnow I trust.
