Strike three to Springer was well off the plate, and quite the change from the doughnut yesterday.
-
Yeah, Keuchel has some new artwork on his forearm. But it's not his name.
-
that was one shifted infield.
-
How ‘bout that.

Did he put fiers on it?

B1:
Deshields grounds out 6-3
Gallo...only three outfielders, but extreme infield shift...bloops a single to LCF.
Andrus...0-2...2-1on a check swing...2-2...3-2...runner moving...grounds up the middle, Correa moving to cover the bag fields it right behind 2B, flips to Altuve, who makes a great turn coming across the bag and throws to 1B to complete the 6-4-3 twin killing. Put a blue star by that one!
No score after one.

Sweet double play

The Astros have won 6 straight Opening Day games. 2013 & 2018 Rangers, 2014 & 2016 Yankees, 2015 Indians, and 2017 Mariners.

Wtf was Choo thinking?

B2:
Beltre bounces out to the mound, 1-3, on a nice grab by Keuchel
Mazara homers to CF
Choo bloops a single to CF...Correa looked fooled a bit, didn't get much of a jump on it.
Chirinos...full count...Choo on the move...chops to 3B, Bregman goes to 2B, Choo goes in standing and is out as Altuve has to throw around him...bounces the throw, but Marwin gets it on the big hop for the inning ending 5-4-3 double play.
1-0 Rangers
-
Wtf was Choo thinking?

That there was no way Bregman was going to throw to 2B

This infield is fun to watch.

T3:
Stassi strikes out looking
Springer singles up the middle for the Astros first knock
Reddick grounds into 6-4-3 double play

This infield is fun to watch.
The Astros have never had a better infield.

Yeah, Keuchel has some new artwork on his forearm. But it's not his name.
I saw on Twitter yesterday that he did some WS commerative work.

That was the info I was looking for in the other thread.

Ok...time to start drinking this season. Guatemalan rum in my glass.

Art Car IPA. Let's score some runs? Did this team forget how to vaunt already?!?!?
-
Altuve looked pissed after taking that first pitch FB.
So he hit a change up off the plate for a single.
-
It’s about time Altuve got a hit. Slacker.
Some off-brand Irish whisky. Jack Ryan maybe?

But Rangers punch two across...lead 3-0
-
Excellent play by Correa and Marwin.
-
Flor de Cana. Not working well so far.
-
Fucking Keuchel.
I take it he's spending too much time in the middle of the strike zone.
-
I can't believe the World Champions are getting ramrodded by Doug Fister.
-
Gattis and Stassi with doubles...3-1...one out...
-
I can't believe the World Champions are getting ramrodded by Doug Fister.
Fister’s fisted them before.

I can't believe the World Champions are getting ramrodded by Doug Fister.
Stax Massi says hello.

Fister’s fisted them before.
He is absolutely manhandling them.

T5:
Gattis slices a double to RF
Fisher...works the count full...strikes out looking at a meatball right down the middle
Stassi doubles over CFer's head...Gattis scores
Springer flies out F8...just missed that one
Reddick taps back to the mound....1-3
3-1 Rangers

There’s no glide in these Astros with Fister on the mound.
-
There’s not glide in these Astros with Fister on the mound.
He is pounding the zone.
-
Alex Bregman is my hero.
-
Gallo squares up and looks at a ball and then a strike. Swings away at strike two and three.
-
Gallo's too chicken to bunt.
-
B5:
Deshields rolls one up the 3B line...Bregman with a great barehanded pickup and gets him at 1B
Gallo...showing bunt...takes ball one...takes strike two...now swinging...1-2...2-2...strikes out swinging
Andrus rolls one up the 3B line...Bregman with another great bare hand, but can't get Andrus
Andrus to 2B on a wild pitch that Stassi reached for instead of dropping and blocking
Beltre lines out to 1B
3-1 Rangers
-
Fister really has the Astros in a clench.
-
He is pounding the zone.
I’m glad that’s done. It was painful.
-
Now Chris Martin is on the hill. I hope the Astros are through with the cold play on offense.
-
Mazara scooped that ball off the ground.
-
Gallo and his tiny child balls too scared of the railing to make the catch in foul territory.

I've never seen an announcer lose track of the count, inning, outs, score, opponent, etc, more than Todd Kalas.

Odor executes.

I'm no scientist but he seems to have stunk that throw up.

Shhh
-
Bregman never touched 1B...
Quiet, you.
-
Do something, Marwin.
-
Marwin got some help with a couple of low str-balls.
-
Swing the fucking bats!!!
-
I hate when that happens at MMPUS. At Globe Life Soon To Be Demolished Park it seems kind of fitting to hear Let’s Go Astros.
-
Last night I watched most of the game on the Fox SW Rangers broadcast and they were having an occasional picture in a picture commercials between pitches. So glad AT&T Sportsnet isn't doing that... yet.
-
Gattis stared at fastball down the middle. Jesus.
-
Swing the fucking bats!!!
I’m not sure you got what you wanted.
-
Gattis needed to punish that 1-1 pitch.
-
Terrible AB by Gattis. He took two fat pitches.

Ugh. Marwin taking fat pitches...Gattis taking fat pitches...
-
Gattis early contender for worst at bat of the year. That was fucking putrid.

Hated seeing them take the 2nd run off the board but it was the proper call.
-
T6:
Fister out...Martin in for the Rangers
Altuve hits a bullet to RF...Mazara backs up, then drops to his knees and comes up with it...ruled a trap...but Rangers challenging...looks like a catch...not enough to overturn, but that's never stopped them in NY...here comes the ruling...whaddya know...upheld, single for Jose
Correa...0-2..1--2..strikes out swinging at a piitch 2 feet off the plate
Bregman...0-2, despite what Kalas says...1-2...grounds up the middle...Andrus fields it, flips to Odor, but it pulls him off the bag, Odor throws it into the dugout...Altuve scores and Bregman to 2B...Rangers challenging something...looks like Bregman never touched 1B...who knows...here's the call...safe all around, but Altuve has to go back to 3B...Altuve to 3B, Bregman to 2B
Marwin...infield back...3-1...full up...walks...bases drunk
Gattis takes a couple of meatballs, strikes out swinging at a pitch in the dirt
That's all for Martin...Claudio in
Davis, pinch hitting for Fisher...swinging at pitches off the plate...2-2...strikes out swinging...not a single pitch within 8 inches of the plate
Astros leave the bases loaded...3-1 Rangers
-
That's lousy.
-
That was the anti-vaunt.

What a shit inning. Two huge breaks, bases loaded, one out...can't put a ball in play, taking pitches right down the middle, swinging at shit in the dirt.
-
Davis swings at balls 3 and 4, and we're done.
-
Last 2 way off the plate.
Sigh.
-
Davis swings at balls 3 and 4, and we're done.
Do you want to get sent to AAA? Because that's how you get sent to AAA.
-
What the hell is it about this sport where the defending world champions can look so convincingly shitty so much of the time?
-

Its likely happening soon anyway.

Baseball is a lot harder than it looks.
-
Gattis early contender for worst at bat of the year. That was fucking putrid.
I worry about him as DH.
-
B6:
Davis stays in to play 1B, Marwin to LF
Mazara...0-2...strikes out swinging
Choo flies out F7
Chirinos grounds out 5-3
3-1 Still
-
Keuchel looked pretty good that inning. I would like to see the Astros score three runs this next half inning.
-
Nice song for the Audi ad. Did the Astros have Audi ads last season?
-
DDS tracked that ball hit by Stassi well.
-
T7:
Stassi lines one to deep CF on the first pitch, but this time Deshields runs it down
Springer flies out F8 at the track
Reddick lines out to CF
3-1 at the stretch
-
That Keuchel start seemed ok to me. Not the best I’ve seen, but within the margin of error.
-
Well, if nothing else good happens tonight, it's nice to see Odor get fucked.
-
JD’s first catch at first was probably a 92 mph FB from 45 ft away.

He pitched OK. Couldn't get the groundballs when he needed them, but not a bad outing. Astros need to score more runs.
-

I'm just disappointed they couldn't begin to grasp vaunting on Fister.
-
It's got to be hard to walk DeShields.
-
I'm just disappointed they couldn't begin to grasp vaunting on Fister.
Fister pitched a great game. I think they need to check his cap for personal lubricants.

WTF Smith, throw strikes!

Fucking two out walks...

That was disappointing.

Ugh. Please don't let this get ugly.
Considering who we're playing, it's already ugly.
-
Ugly.
-
2 out walk to a one handed hitter.
-
0-2 count and this is the result? No bueno.
-
Are they permitted to get hits with two outs? I think we should protest.
-
With 2 strikes. Just get the final out!
-
Considering who we're playing, it's already ugly.
That they're hitting well isn't surprising. That they're pitching well is.
-
Smith with an inauspicious Astros debut.
-
B7:
Joe Smith...making his Astros debut...
Odor smashes one to Altuve, who knocks it right to Correa...the ol' 4-6-3 groundout
Rua...0-2...flies out F9 on a nice running grab by Reddick.
Deshields walks
Gallo lines a double off the top of the CF wall, Deshields scores
Andrus ...0-2...singles to LF, Andrus scores, Marwin throws the ball against the fence allowing Andrus to get to 2B...TE-7
Beltre strikes out swinging
But the Rangers get two more, all with two outs...lead 5-1
-
Finally. He did not show any willingness to try and steak the closer role from Giles.
-
On the plus side, the Beltre K was pretty good.
-
T8:
Jepsen in for the Rangers...
Altuve bounces out 6-3 on the first pitch
Correa grounds one hard to SS, under the glove of Andrus...E6
Bregman...quickly 0-2...1-2...2-2...grounds into 3U-6 double play
5-1 Rangers
-
Two DPs in one game- there is a Ginger Lynn joke in there somewhere.
-
Double play on a check swing = not your night
-
Rangers have now lost three challenges this game...
-
B8:
Rondon making his Astros debut...
Mazara...0-2...strikes out looking
Choo doubles off the top of the LF wall...Rangers challenging...ball clearly hit off the top of the wall...upheld, double
Chirinos grounds out 5-3 on a nice play by Bregman right on the line
Odor flies out at the wall in RCF
Headed to the 9th...5-1 Rangers
-
Bannister seems to get unlimited reviews and two challenges per game.
-
T9:
Kela in for the Rangers...
Marwin flies out F7
Gattis pops out F4
Davis...3-0...3-1...walks
Davis takes 2B on fielder's indifference
Stassi...3-1...3-2...pops out F3
Astros go down 5-1

Lame.

Can't win them all.

You're supposed to get only one challenge for the first six innings. Banister got two in the 6th inning alone.
-
That was so fucked.
-
On the plus side Stassi stung the ball a couple of times and Rondon didn't give up a run.
