Starts at Shiloh (1321 Studewood) at 11:00 am.
Spanish Flowers (4701 N. Main) at 1:00 pm
Flying Saucer, after, if you want.

Woo! I can't wait!
-
I'm wedging in a run by Alice's Tall Texan between Shiloh and SF, if anyone else would like to continue the tradition.

I’d love a goblet of Shiner so count me in.

Savage alright. We’re only going to have five hours for beer and queso. Well have to be on top of our game.

DID WE JUST BECOME BEST FRIENDS?!

What time will the doors open Monday?
Has anyone seen an itinerary for (official) pre-game stuff?

I think he was asking about the Astros official on-field festivities, such as the banner unveiling, speeches, introductions, etc. I'm assuming that they'll start around 5:30, but I haven't seen that anywhere.

Oh. If so, my bad.

According to McTaggart on Twitter
Home opener details for Monday:
- Gates open: 3 p.m.
- Giveaway: schedule magnet
- Pregame pomp: Clydesdales, 2017 banner unveiling
- Flyover: US Navy Training Air Wing 2
- Anthem: Clay Walker
- First pitch: Rich Dauer
- Uniform: gold-accented jerseys/hats
- First pitch: 6:10pm
-
Clay Walker has to be moving near the top for most National Anthems sung at an Astros game.

Has he done anything else in the last 20 years *other* than sing the National Anthem at Astros and Texans games?
-
Oh. If so, my bad.
No worries. I was asking about the official stuff.
Wife and I will be driving down so I don't think we'll have time to hit the OWA pregame festivities.

Of course you do. Leave earlier.

I didn't realize how far the first two stops are from downtown (I thought it was going to a traditional bar crawl on foot because the Flying Saucer, the only place on the list I'm familiar with, is downtown). Is going up N. Main from downtown a quick way to get up there or is I-10 to Studewood faster?
(My apologies, have not lived in Houston since 2003)

Going 10 to Studewood is probably a whole three minutes faster. Either way is good though.

Thanks.

Just to confirm, since I don’t know what any of you people look like, we’re all wearing Junction Jack costumes, right? Should be easy enough to find each other if that’s the case.

If you go to the bar at 11 they’ll be the people in there that somehow don’t look like they’re in there every morning at 11.

You'll figure it out. Hostros7 figured out ETA, Astrojo and myself the other day.

Salt and pepper Jewfro, cargo pants and a Fuck Satan t-shirt.

I will be deeply disappointed if that’s not what you look like tomorrow.
I’ll probably catch up with y’all at Spanish Flowers, and I may or may not have my dad with me.

He doesn’t really wear cargo pants.
-

Yeah but he went to Dartmouth and has met Brad.
-
Sorry I'll be missing you characters this year. Have a few beers for me, and let me know where you're sitting so I can keep an eye out on the telecast. With any luck you'll get to see another Correa moonshot cruise by at eye level like last year.
-

How the hell can you be so sure? You haven't seen him in a full year, and fashion trends move swiftly in a place like Austin.
I mean, for all I know, madras capri pants are totally out for the gentleman this season.

Paisley silk, baby.

My strategy was to scan the room for an upstanding, yet disparate group of individuals seemingly bound only by an intense rooting interest in Astros baseball and then look for context clues such as the presence of beer and/or queso. Admittedly, this approach is bound to produce many false positives.
I’ve got a lunch meeting today, so may be a little late to SF but looking forward to it and Second Lunch (beer) there.

Paisley silk, baby.
As a dedicated reader of Dress For Success you should certainly know that paisley silk never goes out of fashion. It is a cornerstone of any man's closet, like a good Chelsea boot, and will be employed either as a shirt or a cravat, or, among the more fashion-forward, both simultaneously.

Certainly, sir. You and I are faithful followers of the same manual.

Indeed. Alas, my hair does not curl in the pleasing, semitic manner as does yours.

We are shooting for Spanish flowers at 1.

That might be the most charitable description of talkzone denizens that I've ever seen.

Someone has to.
I can confirm that Spanish Flowers still knows how to cook tex-mex and the OWA contingent is a group of mighty fine people.

That was fun! We should do it again someday. Maybe next year?

+1. I’ve already started the negotiations with Mrs. das to be there for opening day next year. It would be a package deal for y’all; two for the price of one…

To quote the great philosopher Brad Lidge... FUCKING HUGE.

Today was great. I met a lot of new people and saw some friends. Days like today make the world a better place.

Out-fucking-standing! Sorry I missed some proper goodbyes. Let’s do it again!!

I met The Spleen!!

Thanks to BG for being our ticket office.
Enjoyed meeting those I met.
Little Waldo gets my game ball for outstanding Astros spirit. (Big Waldo, get him a ball and say it's from me)
-
It was great to meet you guys. I will say - next year I’ll push for the pre-opening day golf outing. (Gives me an excuse for golf at least once a year).
-
Thanks BG, outstanding tickets. Outstanding game!
-
Great time. Good to see everyone.
-
For those that were there: is this right? The left tower has the 2005 NL pennant but not the 2017 AL pennant? I wonder why. It does not seem to be represented anywhere in the building.

That is correct.
I also did not see any mention of the 2017 division title.
-
That was a truly excellent day. Thank you all for your gracious hospitality towards my dad and I at SF and FS, and I sincerely apologize for all of the rude things I’ve written in response to some of you over the years. I guess looking at a computer brings out my angry side. But what a great time, capped off by a nearly perfect game that served as a great reminder of why baseball is such a beautiful game to watch in person.
-
Great fun yesterday! Thanks to all the new folks who joined us. See you next year?

Running out of room for the small potatoes. Time to start celebrating pennants and WS championships.

What a blast! Great food, great beer, great game, great fellowship. Many thanks to Leslie for getting it rolling and buying the tickets. Advice to non- attendees - don't wait 20 years like I did. You are missing a special experience. I will be back if at all possible.
-
Thanks for the accolades, I will try and get things organized a bit sooner. So, if any of you yahoos are thinking about joining next year then get ready, because the discounted ticket rate we get is going to be due in October (I assume).
And if we wanted to do a mid-season group, we could definitely get that arranged.

Thanks for setting this up as always, Leslie. I'd be interested in a midseason gathering, though I'm definitely taking the day off work for these get-togethers moving forward.

Little Waldo was awesome. Most impressive, he never got tired and finished strong.

I like to pair my silk paisley capris with a colorful brocade Nehru jacket.

So that was Little Waldo yelling? I thought it was Waldo.

Yep. At one point around the 7th inning, Waldo asked him to tone it down because he had a headache. Little Waldo told him that he would be quiet the entire car ride back to Austin, but he wasn’t going to stop yelling/screaming while the game was going on.
Little Waldo was the one that got the Let’s Go Springer, Let’s Go McHugh, Let’s Go Marwin chants going.

Well, obviously. And of course you can go with some nice linen espadrilles or a smart pair of saddle bucks.

His exact words were, "I'll be quiet on the way home, but you're going to have a headache for the rest of the game."
I've created a monster.

I go with the espadrilles that have the curved-up toes and color match them with my kurta.

Little Waldo was like a pitcher whose 112th pitch was still 96 mph. It was the 9th inning, 6-run lead and the kid was still bringing it strong.

Waldo, I would have traded seats with you! I love those kids! I would have bought him more sugar to make it even better!
-
Little Waldo was relentless! Every time I thought he would tire, it got louder. He’s a gamer.

Not today, I have to log some time at the job.
But, I have realized that Facebook does a good job of doing play-by-play.
