Interesting that Altuve's thought process was about what was best for other second basemen around the league, rather than what was best for the Astros' chances of winning more championships.
(Of course, that could just be how the reporter wrote this story.)

I don't think it was "rather" as opposed to in addition to. I also found it interesting that he was thinking about setting the market for second basemen, as opposed to generally players his age with his pedigree. That consideration had not occurred to me at all.

More from Verlander:
The last few years I've done a much better job of taking off [my blinders] and seeing what other guys are doing, watching their routines and seeing any way that maybe I could help guys out. So that's a lot of fun for me especially in a new organization with tons of new guys, tons of young guys. I feel like I have a lot of wisdom and I've experienced a lot in this game...so any way I can help them that's what I'm trying to do.

He absolutely did. In my opinion, he’s more of an Astro right now than Keuchel.

This is crazy. .217 is the Slugging % against Verlander's 4-seam FB last season.https://www.mlb.com/astros/news/5-reasons-justin-verlander-could-win-cy-young/c-269369276

He throws it high in the zone. Pitchers’ adjustment to new hitting theory.

I wonder how much Beltran may have influenced this perspective.

Good question. That's why they paid him.

My 12 year old son was #27 for his team last year. (His first of organized baseball) He got moved to pitcher by the end of the season and his brothers nicknamed him "Fehrlander." This year he was able to get on a team called the Astros and decided to go with #35 and Fehrlander on the back of the jersey.

Do they put the names of the back of the unis now in Little League? Gooooood Lord. All I had on my first uni, besides a number and Braves, was Lewis Boggus Ford. I like it, though.
