T1 of Game 5
Dallas Keuchel pitches to
Taylor
strike at the knees, check swing on the curve down, ball down (can hear HPU pretty clearly), single up the middle
-
T1 of Game 5, no outs, man on 1st
HPU is Bill Miller. I know nothing about him which probably means he's good.
Seager
foul, foul, ball outside, foul, check swing on a change down and out, same pitch-same check swing, strike looking at 91 mph fastball. 1 out.
-
I don’t know what Seager was looking for on 3-2, but I’m happy he took what he got like a potted plant.

found this tidbit on Miller- "Miller has an expansive strike zone that strongly favors pitchers. ... His four-year K/BB is second only to Doug Eddings in favor of pitchers. ... He's one of the best umpires to have behind the plate if you crave a pitching duel."

Keuchel pretty unsharp early
-
T1 of Game 5, 1 out, men on 1st and 2nd
Hernandez
ball down, ball just outside, ball, ball down for a walk.
-
Eight straight balls, seven of them in the dirt.

Bases juiced one out... take a deep breath Dallas. Get your ground ball.

Not really what I'd envisioned for a critical game. A DP would be nice.

Puig continuing.
ball, squib in front of the plate, McCann throws him out. 3 outs.

32 pitdhes, and not sharp. McHugh is going to get his chance tonight.

We need to remind kershaw that he is allegedly only historically an all-time great in the regular season.

In long relief if this continues. I'm never seen Dallas tight but he is tight.

Fuck it. Verlander starts Tuesday then we have McPeacock after that. This is just bonus baseball.

Clayton Kershaw pitches to

Kershaw is really good, but so is the Astros offense. They are capable of vaunting against anyone.

I get it and no need to apologize. I’m as nervous as anyone in this thread, but confidence is half the battle. Marwin got screwed out of a hitters count by the home plate ump, too. The second pitch was nowhere close and Kershaw got a called strike out of it.
-
Yeah, starting to get some calls.
Of course, as Smoltz has said, so will CK.
-
T4 0 -3, 1 out
Forsythe
ball, strike, strike on the inside that was a ball, ball outside, foul, foul just outside 3rd, fly ball to the gap in left center for a double.

If you’re not going to use him here, when are you going to use him?
I am completely baffled. There has to be a reason they’re not using him right?
-
Perhaps Hinch wants Gregerson to get this out, and let McHugh start with a clean inning.
-
Man, talk about coming up microscopic at home in the biggest game of their lives.
-
T4, 0 - 4, 2 outs, man on 1st
Culberson
ball, ball, foul, ball down, strike swinging, foul into the seats on the third base side, grounder to the right of Altuve, he knocks it down and tries throwing from his knees, but is not in time. single. That's it for Keuchel.

I thought the same, but McHugh isn’t warming up yet, at least that we know of.

I thought DK was getting in the groove, but no. He couldn't put away the bottom two hitters with two outs.

Are you doing that on MLB At Bat or some such? I'm flying to England on the night of a possible Game 7.
I booked the tickets in, like, April. The thought of a WS in November didn't even cross my mind.

Too many walks.

Damn, back to back walks to start an inning usually dont end too well.

McHugh does not appear to be the solution.
I suppose pitching twice in 30 days is not ideal.

The strategy against Kershaw must be to have long innings when the Dodgers are up to make him sit.

A sharp grounder to short cures all ills.

I’m starting to think Dave Roberts views mound visits as a good way to get his 10,000 steps in during a game.

interesting conversation that the mic picked up between Woodward and Taylor on the fly to Reddick. Sounds like Woodward meant to send him, but Taylor could not hear. Afterward Woodward said that he probably would have been out anyway with the throw.
I once read a book from an Oklahoma weathercaster who talked about when they had to break into programming for tornado warnings. The producer would ask him “are you ready” and he would say “no”, but the producer thought he said “go” and went live before he was ready. They had to come up with different words to use. Seems like a baseball team would do the same.
MCCANN!!! He was due!

Unfortunately, no.

Interesting (well sorta) reversal of fortunes in that stat showing LA has stranded 7 and Houston has stranded 2. I hadn't thought about that and I guess its because we didn't leave, like, 11 guys out there tonight.

The emotional high reminds me of Kent’s walkoff in 2004 NLCS. Now, they need to go on the road and finish the deal, which they couldn’t in 2004. But they have Verlander on the mound instead of Pete Munro.

You’re welcome. I just believe this lineup is really special. Top to bottom there are no easy outs, and when clucking, they can hit anyone. That’s why I was upbeat at 4-0.

What an amazing team win. Right down to the fact that putting in Fisher to run was a no-brainer because Centeno is on the team. Probably would have had to pinch run for McCann anyway, but it's a much easier decision knowing you won't forfeit both the DH spot and defensive ability.
Crazy to say, but I doubt one more reliever would have made such a difference given the infectious leakiness of the pen.

That the Astros scorched their pen, after Keuchel got knocked out early, is not surprising. The fact that the Dodgers scorched their pen...again...behind a seemingly functional Kershaw is surprising.
One thing getting lost in all the drama of this series is that main strength / advantage the Dodgers had was their bullpen. Unhittable, they said. Invincible, they said. The best closer in baseball, they said. Well the Astros have taken all those words, rolled them up in a newspaper, and shoved them up Dodgerdom's 'arris. The thing the Dodgers knew they could rely on, they now know that they can't.
That has to be a very scary proposition going into Game #6 with Rich "King of 5 Innings" Hill on the mound.

Fisher is one fast dude. I was expecting a play, but he easily beat it.
It's a team sport, and when Fisher was asked to do what was almost certainly the only thing he'll be asked to do in this Series, he did it exquisitely. Got a good lead, took a perfect path, cut the corner like a pro, and made a potentially close play not close at all.

Even though we were down, early Mark and I thought we saw signs Kershaw was not as good as in LA. His FB was only 91-92, and he was not striking out anyone. He certainly was not unhittable as the 4th inning vaunting showed.
What a game!

OMG that was great.
I was an emotional roller coaster throughout this entire game. I told my sister that Jansen wasn't going to be successful the second inning he pitched.

I think so but not positive. I was not thinking about Lourdes until after we both went our separate ways, but it looks like him in his pictures online. He was definitely a younger looking Yuli. Very nice too.
ETA: I always forget about asking their name until after the moment passes.

The emotional roller coaster was extreme. The Dodgers took the crowd out of it early, then Yuli’s blast got it rocking again. Bellinger’s homer put the lid back on, then Altuve’s answering homer tore it off again. On and on it went back and forth like a tennis match between elite players. I was exhausted, and for real and for awhile, I feared I was experiencing a very untimely cardiac event. I do not know if I scared Mark, but I was seriously alarmed. We got back to where we were staying about 1:40 am and stayed up for more than an hour reading and talking about the game. Mark kept saying “It does not seem real.” I did not sleep a wink until we left at 6 am to get Mark back home for work.
What a game! Such a memorable experience for me made better because Mark was there too.

I would've been a lot more alarmed if I hadn't gone through that same feeling 2-3 times already during the game.
When Altuve hit his home run, I had to sit down for a few seconds. I literally yelled myself out of oxygen, then forgot how to breathe for about 5 seconds. I had a really pretty black fireworks show happening before I realized I was in a bit of distress.
