ARod showing off his Yankee World Series ring, root, root, rooting for them. Way to be objective.

ARod says yes. Hernandez and Ortiz say no.

Can't believe we didn't get a Derek Jeter interview asking him what he thinks judge thinks of him.

As long as they don't give him back to back fastballs in the happy zone they'll be fine

Astros wearing their orange jerseys. Open up a can.

If Judge's kryptonite is the ball that bends, then we've got the right guy for him.

High and inside is not the hole in Judge's swing. I hope Harris goes back to sleep.

Game 3's opener at least mentioned the Astros. Today's whoever-the-rapper-reading-cuecards-is didn't even say Houston or Astros, let alone talk about them.
Fuck Fox and their pathetic inability to even TRY to be balanced.

I hope we didn't wake up his bat last night.
Would be more concerned if he hit something off the outer corners. I was more concerned about the ump not calling strikes at his knees.

Yeah. That clap clap clap-clap-clap cadence. Some of the players make a little show because they don't stop till the player acknowledges it.

Altuve takes ball one...ball two...ball three...checks his swing at a pitch over his head (he wanted it)...four pitch walk

No kidding. That ball had to look up to see the bottom of the zone

Pitching a lot more tentatively to Altuve and Correa. It's like they're the only ones hitting in the lineup or something.

Correa saw 6 pitches, none of them strikes after a four pitch walk
No score.

Sure would be nice if the Astros wanted to actually play some offense. Jesus fucking Christ.

Did he really say tough play?
Every MLB SS makes that play 98% of the time.

Pitching a lot more tentatively to Altuve and Correa. It's like they're the only ones hitting in the lineup or something.
Gray threw the last 10 pitches out of the zone and got the final out.
-
Early returns......Astros hitters reaching and trying to pull everything on the outside corner at the knees. Will be a long day if they don't stop that.

The best pitch to hit all inning was the fast ball Springer watched sail by.

Gray hit the bottom of the zone to Reddick, but couldn't get anywhere near it after that. Correa bailed him out big time.

McCullers is so fidgety. I noticed last outing that he was constantly adjusting his pant leg at his ankles between every single pitch. Tonight it's the jersey and chain.

First Yankee strike of the game. 6 inches off the plate strike 1 to Yuli. Fucking brutal.

T2:
Marwin takes ball one high...ball two high...takes strike one...flies out F7

Marwin was really late on that mediocre fastball.

Strike 1 was a 92mph meatball high and out over the plate. Makes one wonder what the fuck he was looking for.

It was actually on 2-0. You know, when the pitcher might be looking to get one in the zone...

B2:
Sanchez fouls strike one...swing and a miss...ball high...pops out F4

Smoltz - This should be nowhere near the zone. (on 0-2 to Sanchez)
>pitch is way high<
Buck (sounding shocked) - You were right!

HOW MUCH ARE YOU GETTING PAID TO DO THIS?!

Ouch.
But a productive AB.

GOD FUCKING DAMNIT SPRINGER! STOP ROLLING OVER ON THE FUCKING BALL!

T3:
Springer ball one down and away...rolls over on a pitch way outside, grounds into a 6-4 FC, McCann out at 2B
-
Gray is making pre-Crash Ebby Calvin look accurate.
Also, Sonny Gray is both his name and his porn name.
-
Worth the exchange in runners, but crappy contact from GS.
-
STOP TAKING MEATBALLS YOU BUNCH OF TWATS

Castro was lollygagging to 2B on that one.
-
strike 1 down the pipe again.
Unleash the hounds on first pitch heaters!!
-
T3:
Reddick takes a meatball right down the middle for strike one...ball one in the dirt...throw over to 1B...taps back to the mound for a 1-6-3 double play
-
Would be hard for Springer and Reddick to look worse this series. Two double play balls on consecutive batters.

This is fucking pathetic. Gray is throwing FUCKING MEAT. SIT BACK AND GO THE OTHER WAY YOU DUMBASSES.

I am having Sterling Hitchcock flashbacks.
The worst part is they zoomed in on Beltran during Springer's at bat and Carlos actually said "take him the other way!"
George promptly rolled over a fat fastball.
-
B3:
Hicks takes strike one down the middle...ball down...checks his swing for ball two...ball inside...grounds out 4-3
-
ATTABOY LANCE! Way to not give up on 3-1!
-
B3:
Frazier takes a curveball for strike one...ball inside...ball inside...curveball on the corner evens the count...foul...with a bloop flair single over 2B, as Altuve is in the shift. Shiftfuck single.
-
ATTABOY LANCE! Way to not give up on 3-1!
Hear, hear
Meanwhile a bloop hit.
Stay on target, Lance.
-
Hey Astros, take notes. Not rolling over on slop will lead to things other than ground balls to the short stop. Some of them might even fall in for hits when you don't hit them well.
-
Now THAT'S a nice play.
-
B3:
Romine takes strike one...dribbles one to 3B...Bregman fields it and throws out Romine 5-3, Frazier to 2B
-
B3:
Gardner takes a curveball down...takes strike one...swing and a miss...grounds out 4-3

I'm going to break everything I own the way this game is going.
The Astros look like straight up dogshit at the plate.

T4:

This entire game so far feels like Game 4 after the Red Sox took the lead. Everyone is looking and acting tight as fuck.

yuli looked terrible in that AB.

T4:
Bregman takes a ball high...ball low and away...ball three bounces...hacks at ball four and hits a soft fly ball to RF
No score
-
yuli looked terrible in that AB.
You can add Bregman to that.
3-0 and you fucking pop out.
Up there just trying not to fail.
-
Not sure about hacking there. Take a walk and let the guy that doubled last time hit.
-
If the Astros never swung at a pitch, they'd be leading this game 3-0
-
what the fuck?
Just because you have the green light doesn't mean you have to take a weak ass cut at one 3 inches of the plate.
-
Fuck. Got to make them pay for these mistakes.
-
Green light a fat one, fine.
Swing at that pitch, Fucking terrible.
-
B4:
Judge...didn't see the first few pitches, as I was peeing...it's now 3-1 though...takes a strike for ball four for a leadoff walk...McCullers loses his shit
-
Fuck. Got to make them pay for these mistakes.
E4, passed ball, and nothing.
BBGs take notice of those who don't take advantage of their gifts.

B4:

More than mildly concerned this will be McCullers' meltdown inning.
-
3 pitches later, we're STILL talking about Judge walking. He's the fucking second coming.
-
keep it together, Lance.

Wouldn't he have to have run back to first even if he got to second?

Guessing they told AJ there was nothing to challenge yet so wait until it's back in play and throw to 2nd.

I never would've imagined I would be so happy to see an All Star starter make it through four innings!

HH,
Judge slides into first, is tagged. Is that tag enough to get the out for not retouching or is the rule that the defense must do the appeal/ force play thing before the next pitch?

No. They have to win the next two. Period.

The bats need to get their heads out of their ass and stop making every Yankee look like Sandy Koufax. And Hinch needs to realize his bullpen is not good, and manage accordingly.

Keuchal to Verlander. That’s not bad.

And go 9 each, that would help.

No, it's not. But now the pressure is on. They have to get it done.

Well I managed to not throw up at the Cub Scout meeting.
But not by much.
-
Devenski needs to sit on the bench for awhile. He has no clue where the ball is going right now, and hasn't since the All Star Break. He's not the same guy he was in the first half of the year.
Overworked ?

Overworked ?
He's seemed shaky much of the second half. Don't know if its physical, mental, or both.
Butt at times he's allergic to throwing strikes.
-
I don't think the bullpen ever fully recovered from that mid-season siege of injuries with pretty much the whole starting rotation on the DL...
-
Now it's 2 out of 3 with home field advantage and Keuchel and Verlander pitching the first two. If you gave me those odds in April I would have gladly taken them, and still do.

The real question is who do you turn to now?

Same guys. Them's the guys that brung us.

Yep.

They have to win tomorrow. Absolutely have to.
It would be in their best interests and also my heart and mind's. But we're talking about the Astros who have not always acted in their best interests. Luckily there is a precedent. Three in fact where the home team won every game in a 2-3-2 format: 1987, 1991, and 2001. I think it may be that time again. That is why home field advantage is a home field advantage.

We took three - amazing - games at home in the middle of the 2004 NLCS. Then we went to St Louis and shit the bed.
Not that I want to have to win a Game #7, but the Yankees won 51 of 82 (.622) at home this year, which means the won only 42 of 82 (.512) on the road. We are dealing with a team that knows how to win in Yankee Stadium - built to do so, in fact - but such a skill set hasn't translated so well to other ballparks. Of their 6 post-season wins, only 1 has come on the road.

Yesterday was the 12th anniversary of the Pujols HR game.

After four ALCS games the Astros are hitting .153/.254/.220. 18 Hits in 4 games. Lucky to be tied at 2.

In the first two games, we erased a couple of important baserunners - including one at the plate. In some ways, we're fortunate still to be playing,

The botched rundown and a poorly located slider are the difference in being down in the 8th and going to the 9th with a 4-3 lead.

Altuve not standing over the bag to catch the ball and apply the easy tag is one of the many small things that cost this game.

Altuve, on his positioning:
He made a really good throw, but I'm 5'5" and Headley is like 6' something. He kind of blocked me, so I decided to take a step back to make sure I catch that ball, because if I don't do it I don't think I would have caught that ball.

Fair enough. I turned off the tv after the game and didn't watch any interviews and haven't bothered to look any up this morning

So he's got an excuse for his bad fundamental play? Awesome.

IMO, the problem started with Correa. He should not have thrown the ball that quickly. He didn't get Headley moving back to first before throwing. If he runs at him for just a few steps he gets the ball to Yuli much closer to Headley and Headley much further from second.

There are plenty of places where blame can be placed for last night, from lack of hitting, to fielding mistakes, to poor pitching to poor managing. It was a complete failure all around. My biggest issue however was with Hinch and the decisions around LMJ. Once we got up 4-0 that game became MUST WIN. I too feel he yanked LMJ too soon but my bigger issue was going to Devo. It may have been mentioned by someone in a prior post and I missed it, but was I the only Astros fan screaming at the tv for Peacock? We have already seen in the ALDS that the pen isn't reliable. Peacock has been shut down good all year for 2-3 innings. Why did we not bring him in to perhaps finish the whole game off?? I guess Hinch is saving him for game 7 if it is necessary?? It just didn't make sense to me to have one of the most consistent arms in the league all year sitting on a bench in a game that huge. I have a lot more faith in Peacock right now than perhaps anyone else in that pen. Devo looks completely lost and based on his control issues, the pressure seems to have gotten to him. Many mistakes last night but for me, this was the biggest. I would have let Peacock finish off that entire game once LMJ was pulled.
I will say this, if Keuchel departs with a lead today, regardless of what inning, sixth, seventh, eighth or ninth, Peacock should be the call.

Because I can't get yesterday's game out of my mind I just went to BrooksBaseball and counted all the missed calls by the home plate umpire last night.
The Yankees were fortunate while batting and had a net of gain of 2 pitches called in their favor. Guccione only missed 8 calls for New York. 5 pitches were called balls that should have been strikes and 3 pitches were strikes that should have been called balls. Frazier turned out to be the biggest benefactor with 3 missed calls going in his favor.
He missed 11 calls while the Astros were batting. He called 10 pitches strikes that were out of the zone and only called 1 pitch a ball that was in the zone. Gurriel and McCann were the biggest victims of the night for Houston.
That is frustrating.

I guess taking a step *inside* the line would have been out of the question.

Watch Altuve. He directed him to throw to first. Also, Correa was in the OF, and there was a runner at third.

Hinch answered you because he was asked that direct question. He wanted the matchup of Devo v. their LH hitters.

I did wonder if his vision was blocked, and he definitely took a step back.
