Title: A View From Boston
Post by: Andyzipp on October 03, 2017, 11:03:00 am
Found their analysis interesting, if a little dismissive towards a couple of players.

Fair warning...I had to look up what most of the metrics they were talking about were.

Thanks for sharing.

I found this one to be a very fair assessment of the Astros.

Interesting that they mentioned Reddick's Red Sox lineage, but failed to mention Marwin.  Courtesy of Baseball Reference:
Quote
December 8, 2011: Drafted by the Boston Red Sox from the Chicago Cubs in the 2011 rule 5 draft.

December 8, 2011: Traded by the Boston Red Sox to the Houston Astros for Marco Duarte (minors).
Who the heck is Marco Duarte?  (And I actually spend more time on the bus than on this board!)

Apparently some kid who has been in the Mexican League since 2012.

Reference:Who the heck is Marco Duarte?

Astros picked him in the AAA portion of the rule 5 that year.  Sounds like the BoSox really wanted Duarte and since the Astros had the first pick made the deal to take Marwin for them in exchange for the Astros taking Duarte.

And lest we get on our high horse about that trade.  Let's be reminded we took Ryner Cruz #1 in the rule 5 draft.  We could have picked Marwin then.

"He has also seen a dramatic cutback in walks since coming to Houston, so there is at least some potential he gets walk-happy again in October. "

This is from the Red Sox article above, regarding Verlander. That's some interesting logic if I ever saw it.

Hope is not a viable management tactic.
