Very humble, very earnest. Said "not just today, played bad the last five games." Vowed to go home tonight and think about what he needs to do to play better. Impressive.

The hope I'm hanging onto is that he's performing well below his career numbers for RISP. Therefore he should be able to identify SOMETHING that will get him back on track (i.e. Mark's platinum level advice in the gz).
My advice is that he stop shotgunning half a dozen energy drinks before those ABs.

Three multi hit games in those 5. Great ones recognize when the approach is wrong even during good results.

I like what he said too. I'm a big Altuve apologist, I believe he more than makes up for his fuck-ups but that last at bat was horrendously pretty bad.

No, he does not. Hitting .364 is meaningless if you do not come through in key situations.

It is great that he not only recognizes but enunciates his shortcomings of late but I am wondering if Hinch, or the hitting coach, has gotten on him? In the modern game do managers talk to the better players about their mental approach or do they just let them go about their business? I suspect we will never know.

Of course they do. That's their job as a coach. Now how much players heed their advice is another question.

I disagree that Altuve's failure to come through in 3 out of 4 "key situations" makes all his other contributions "meaningless". Anyway, I sincerely hope he figures it out.

It doesn't nullify all his other contributions. He contributes a lot. But you can't look at his numbers and simply say "he's the most productive player on the team" either.
On a side note...if Altuve only swung at pitches that didn't bounce, he'd be hitting over .400.

Altuve strikes me as someone who takes his job very seriously and is probably his own toughest critic. It reminds me of that Beltran players' tribune article where he, Altuve and Correa were eating dinner together and after a few minutes of the Carloses' small talk Altuve said something to the effect of "can we please talk about hitting now?"

And remember the kick that Miguel Cabrera got from Altuve calling him asking for hitting advice.
