Ken Rosenthal reports Astros are in talks with White Sox about the reliever. No word on what it might cost.

Morosi reports Clippard's twitter already says he's an Astros.
-
Depending on what it costs of course, I would be pretty happy with this. He has pitched much better since getting out of Yankee town and it provides some insurance in case Harris has a setback or Devo doesn't rebound.

There's a pic of his updated Twitter profile in this link.

The Astros so desperately need help in the bullpen right now, that this is an extremely welcome move. Hope Luhnow isn't paying too much, but ... as I said before, the team really needs help in the bullpen.

Just saw a post elsewhere that McTaggert says he may be used in a flip deal for Verlander or Hand.

I’d find it hard to believe that Hand got through waivers. Maybe...

I agree. No way he makes it through. This is either a stand alone deal or the Verlander deal could be imminent. I'm actually hoping for a stand alone deal AND Verlander. I think Clippard could be a real asset.

Good move by Lunhow. Clippard has a lot of late inning experience and adds depth to the bullpen.

McTaggert never said anything of the kind.

Thanks for the correction. As I said, I was just repeating what I saw posted somewhere else. I'm glad that report is in error. I want Clippard and Verlander.

From the MLB.com article on the trade:
"traded for White Sox reliever Tyler Clippard Sunday night for a player to be named or cash considerations."
From the Chron article on the trade:
"The Astros acquired relief pitcher Tyler Clippard from the Chicago White Sox on Sunday night in exchange for a player to be named later or cash."

So you're saying McTag's tweet is wrong. I'm so disillusioned.

I guess it depends on how much cash, but he seems to be a better get than just "cash considerations." Anyways, hope he helps out.
-
I'm pretty sure it's "or" rather than "and". Most of the time with a PTBNL, both sides also agree on a cash equivalent so there is a fall back plan regarding the PTBNL. This makes the deal cut and dry going forward, even if issues arise regarding said PTBNL (injury, problems with physical, etc.). Either take the player or the cash.
