Correa's thumb is an issue? Is that right?
-
Correa's thumb is an issue? Is that right?
Yes. Day to day. I don't know if it's the right or the left.

Tarp on the field and likely delay to game start.
-

I'm assuming the left. That's the one that got jammed/knelt on during the play last night
-
Game has started. Springer opens things up with a single
-
Gattis flare just over a gator-armed Phillips plates Springer. 1-0 mid 1.

At the game tonight. Lots of Altuve and Correa shirts at the park.

Gurriel and Gattis flashing the iron tonight.

The defense appears determined to test Musgrove's mental resolve.

Stanton fills all the space left by Kalas.

How's the new park?
-
How's the new park?
Very nice. Great sight lines but seats are too small for my liking. But they might be great for a date because they force you to cuddle with your neighbor.
The area around the park (the battery) is still under construction. Once it is done it will be a great place to come early to get some food.

That was a thoroughly impressive at bat by Musgrove.

That was a thoroughly impressive at bat by Musgrove.
He looked like he could be a decent hitting pitcher on a NL club.
-
The Springer AB that produced the 2 out RBI demonstrated his development at the plate this season and how well he's seeing up the baseball. He probably would have struck out on a huge hack at those pitches he wasted by fouling them off in past seasons.

I love this team
-
Reddick hit a ball about 60% as hard as his HR last night and still walloped a double off the left field wall to score Springer and Altuve.

I thought Gattis was going to crush that pitch. Oops.
-
Well that escalated quickly....
-
Shitfuck. 2-out, 2-strike meatball to the fucking pitcher...2 runs
And then a 2-run homer. just like that we're tied.
-
Musgroved.
-
Maybe now that it's tied up maybe Kalas will shut the fuck up about the immaculate inning bullshit.
-
Musgroved.
Bregman'd

Good thing he wasn't throwing a no-hitter, because that's all Kalas would fucking talk about.

Gene Elston did not do the superstition either.
Should Bregman have made the play on the single?

He certainly should have kept the ball in the infield.

Should Bregman have made the play on the single?
I thought he should have but I'd like another look.
-
I must admit one thing I do not miss is that stupid tomahawk shit they do there. God that is annoying.
-
Gene Elston did not do the superstition either.
Should Bregman have made the play on the single?
I don't think so. It was hit pretty hard to his back hand right down the line. It would have taken a spectacular play to glove it, and then still probably doesn't get an out.
-
He certainly should have kept the ball in the infield.
Then it would have been a 3-run homer

The pitch to Garcia was going to get hit.
-

Exactly. Musgrove made too many mistakes. Flowers's hit was just good hitting. Everything else was Musgrove just not making good pitches. You can't give up a 2-strike, 2-out hit to the opposing pitcher like that. You've got to be able to put him away.
-
The pitch to Garcia was going to get hit.
Yeah, but the fact that it went right down the line was just bad luck. The Enciarte AB was just bad, period.
-
Then it would have been a 3-run homer
Only if you believe in that sort of thing.
Baseball is not Blackjack.
-
Man, there was a nice play by Bregman.
-
The final step for a pitcher is poise.
-
Only if you believe in that sort of thing.
Baseball is not Blackjack.
I believe for every drop of rain that falls, there grows a leaf.
-
And Musgrove out with 2-out in the 6th...Devenski in, he'll go into Marisnick's spot, Aoki will bat in the 9 spot
-
Only if you believe in that sort of thing.
Baseball is not Blackjack.
This. Thank you!
-
Kind of surprised Hinch didn't let Musgrove try to get through 6
-
Astros production crew is still showing the league avg. inherited runner scoring % as 9%. Posters here have claimed that it's actually 30%. It's as if quantifiable, easily verifiable facts are now subject to debate and interpretation.

Wait! No! It's a flower that grows! Leaves get touched.

That's our new reality.

Aoki with a leadoff double in the 7th, chases Garcia

Motte in. The march of ex-Cards continues.

Springer with an RBI!
5-4 Astros

Springer!!
-
That's our new reality.
The archetype has always been.
-
Altuve's had two good pitches to hit and fouled them both back...
-
That's our new reality.
I choose to accept the TZ's facts and not these "alternate facts" promulgated by the mainstream baseball media. I don't want to live in a world where Devo allows inherited runners to score more than twice as often as the league average reliever.

Springer takes another bag!
I love the "2" signal to the dugout. These guys are having fun.
Meanwhile... Altuve!!!

Altuve is something else.

Motte will grab some pine, after being abused by the top of the order...

Like I said, the 9% is the percentage of players with vegan girlfriends.

It's going to be hard to make those numbers say that league average is 9%.

Yeahhhhhh...
-
Gattis...runner on 3B...one out...infield in...
-
Yeahhhhhh...
Maybe if we put KellyAnne on it...
-
Does Ted Turner still own the Braves?
-
It's going to be hard to make those numbers say that league average is 9%.
As someone said, this year's league average is 31%. Philadelphia is worst, Houston second worst. At a quick glance it looked like both teams have one absurd outlier with lots of inherited runners. Hoyt is as we know somewhere north of 60%.
-
Gattis was mad hackin...swings at three pitches in the dirt, manages to roll one to 3B, Altuve has to hold.
-
Does Ted Turner still own the Braves?
I was thinking he was dead.
-
I was thinking he was dead.
I think he's only 9% dead.
-
Marwin with a 2-out RBI single...7-4 Astros
-
According to wikipedia he is alive and 78 years old. I thought he was older... or dead.

It's going to be hard to make those numbers say that league average is 9%.

Good question.

Devo gets an at bat...with the bases juiced!!

Devo's AB.

Please let Devo get a hit, please.

This is awesome.

To heck with that. Grand Slam.
-
To heck with that. Grand Slam.
I'm not greedy.

Devo with the biggest shit eating grin on his face...strikes out swinging
-
To heck with that. Grand Slam.
Way to put the pressure on him Neil.
-
To heck with that. Grand Slam.
I don't care that he struck out. He was up there looking to HIT.
No fucking around in that at bat.
-
If Hinch lets Musgrove finish the 6th, providing Musgrove does, he doesn't have to double switch until now, and Devo doesn't have to hit in the 7th.
-
All the while, the schmucks in the booth are blathering on about Devo and his oblique blah blah blah.
-
At least Kalas brought up the immaculate inning again. But fuck it, he can say whatever he wants. He's not Ashby.
-

I thought that was funny.
-
So Flowers wears glasses when he hits, but not in the field. Interesting.
-
Devo made those guys look silly.
-

Great point. This is the kind of behavior from AL teams I'd always be amazed at whenever those clubs would come to Houston for interleague. I always called it "billegerent pitching changes". I do still miss the NL.
-

I like Kalas when he is calling action. I think Stanton does a good job of breaking down the action. It's the in-between the action banter that gets old. I don't give a damn about the Braves in the 90s. I feel like I know more about Stanton's playing career than I need to.

Last night I called Altuve's and Reddick's homers. I didn't post my calls due to sheer indolence. Tonight I called Marwin's single to left but didn't post because I was sitting on the floor constructing architecturally improbable towers out of foam blocks.

Your fourth tower will fall prematurely while Aoki scores on a wild pitch.
-
Reddick with a 2-out RBI...8-4
-
I hope the ball is ok after it hit Gattis.
-

I had a good one going that fell for no reason. I screamed something angry regarding Bangladeshis and I was met with curious looks.
I had Aoki scoring on a single ripped up the middle. Oh well.
-

Had to throw that one out...it had a dent in it.
-
Not exactly sure where Marwin thought he was going on that hit, but I'll take the runs.

how did you have that marwin at bat going?
-
This must be the best offensive team I've ever seen. It's like they're playing a different game.
-

I had a mild home run inkling but not enough to brag about. I did see something roped to right.

Not one ounce of relent in this offense.

He was going to make sure Gattis scored.

It's full on hipster ironic tonight. Just enjoy it.

I've had some unbelievable runs of luck but basically I've quit playing it. The rare instances where I do gamble I play craps. Not long ago I won a bunch of money in Las Vegas helped along in no small part by the shooting of a Vietnamese kid in a throwback Olajuwon jersey and a non-subtle Clutch City cap. He had never been to Houston, as it turned out. After each number he hit he'd turn to me and shout, I gatchoo, bro!!!
Centenario has a poker tournament tomorrow. I'll go and play. Last tournament I played well (for me) but got bounced out after a couple of cruel rivers. Open bar.
-
I'm really hoping Stanton tries to explain the physics of air density. That would be worth staying up for.

Gambling baffles me. I'm interested in the games, but have no interest in the risk.

I'm not much of a gambler either. I did discover my game is roulette though, largely because there is no strategy, and therefore no need to pay attention. I can smoke my cigar, drink my scotch, and if I'm lucky, talk to some smokin hot Latina, preferably a less than half crazy Cuban chick.

I wonder if the douche Knoblauch would tweet again how ashamemed Blum should be?

Btw, the Astros win 10-4.

Carried by the Devo grand slam. Only 9% of relievers hitting with bases loaded hit a grand slam!
-

I view it as entertainment expense rather than risk. Plus, if you choose a game like craps and do nothing more than make a pass line bet you can basically stand there all night and the great mathematical likelihood is that you'll leave not too far from where you started.
Blackjack, of course, can get totally fucked up by some idiot (or a table full of them) playing like Hunter Pence runs the bases. With craps everyone else at the table can be doing the most idiotic shit imaginable and it will not affect you at all.
-
My bitching from however many game threads ago was wrong.
This is an elite offense.
-

I had no idea about this and am tremendously appreciative that you brought it to my attention. I laughed myself to tears reading the twitter thread where he tagged the wrong Stanton. After of course criticizing a guy who wasn't even there. Greatness.

I have been pretty indifferent to gambling most of my life but I learn how to play craps in Las Vegas a few years ago. I met up with a mate from Chicago and he was showing me the ropes and we had great time. I started off with a few spectacular rolls and people all around me were pretty happy. Funny part was a few yahoos at the other end of the table kept pointing and yelling at me saying buy that guy a beer, buy that man a drink and stuff. I thought it was funny because the waitresses kept bringing beers to us at the table. The guy that was teaching me the game let me down a bit because I had a fuckin mountain of chips I front of me and he kept saying let it ride, let it ride. Next thing you know I roll seven and they took all my chips, those bastards. I eventually got the hang of what was going on and learned to take a little of the table now and then. I had a few good rolls but none as good as the first one when I had no idea what I was doing. I just like to bet on the pass line (called the win line down here) and rarely take the more complicated bets. No craps table at the Perth casino, that may not be a real bad thing, I think most casino games are a snooze but if you are a people watcher the casino is an interesting place to hang out.
-
The whole point of playing craps is that it is the only place in the casino where you can find a bet where the house has no advantage at all. Which is why that particular bet is not indicated on the table.
The house has a slight advantage on a pass line bet (or a don't pass bet), but no advantage on an odds bet. So the rational thing to do is get as many maximum odds bets (or 5X or 10X or whatever your tolerance is) as you can on the table and hope some Vietnamese kid in an oversized throwback jersey hits fifteen numbers in a row.
If you're looking to hang out and not lose too much money you can play anywhere making a minimum pass line bet and hope that the waitress service is reasonably brisk. If you're trying to make money, and the craps table is, in my experience, the only table in the casino where that is reliably possible, you need to play correctly and, crucially, play only at tables that offer 5X odds or, better, 10X odds (or more), and a $5 minimum.
If you play 3-4-5X odds tables you will never, ever win any money. All of the big Strip casinos are 3-4-5, and their minimums are equally ludicrous. There's some shithole across from the Mirage that has always offered good odds, 100X if I'm not mistaken, with a $5 minimum. But you could get lung cancer just standing in there. The Cromwell is now the place on the Strip to play. It's newish and cleanish, high odds and low minimums. It's across from Caesar's.
There are tons of places in downtown that offer good odds but I don't really like to go downtown unless I'm going book shopping. I usually seek out a locals place off the Strip. I played with the I gatchoo bro guy at Green Valley, a place that had moved its odds back to 3-4-5 the last time I was in there. I've done well at the Sunset and the Silverton, too. The Sunset still has good odds as far as I know (and a Gaudi-inspired bar!) but the Silverton is a useless place to gamble anymore. I only go over there to look at the aquariums and obviously to go to Bass Pro Shops.

I wonder if the douche Knoblauch would tweet again how ashamemed Blum should be?
That guy has a real problem. Sad.
