Astros:
RF Reddick
LF Beltran
2b Altuve
SS Correa
C McCann
3b Bregman
1b Gurriel
DH Gattis
CF Aoki
P Keuchel
With that outfield, Keuchel better have every bit of his ability to induce grounders.
And someone still needs to explain to me why we wouldn't put Gattis in LF, if for no other reason than to avoid burning your DH.

Not sure what you mean. Someone has to play LF, and someone different has to DH. Those are going to be Beltran and Gattis. Why does it matter which one is which?

Because only one of them can play catcher.

Ah...so you're worried about the pitcher having to hit if McCann gets hurt and Gattis has to go behind the plate. I think that's a pretty small risk, probably offset by your defense being better with Beltran in LF. Though probably not by much anymore. Did Gattis play LF at all this spring?

Yes, that's what I'm getting at. We've had this happen multiple times, and from what we've seen of Beltran, the defensive difference is negligible.

Gattis played no position but C in spring. This gets your two C bats in the lineup and of the two (Beltran and Gattis), Beltran is still the better LF. Martin can come in for late inning defense, and maybe Teoscar or whoever is Marisnick's replacement, gets there in time to help.

I was surprised to see that Gattis played 48 games in LF in 2013 for ATL. The last time he played out there was 2015, when he made appearances in 11 games in LF. He hasn't patrolled the OF in a while, and, while Carlos is no Marisnick out there anymore, my guess is that AJ has more confidence in Beltran to avoid making any major fuck-ups.
-
No score after one.
-
Correa got completely squeezed, strikes 2&3 should have both been balls.

Big zone tonight. Gotta swing the bats boys.
-
Huge zone and Keuchel missing badly. Might be a long night.
-
Double and TE4 puts Indians on the corner, one out.
-
Double play!
-
And there's the pitcher's best friend...inning ending 6-4-3.
-
Keuchel'd.
-
Yuli seems to be in a nice groove.
-
Situational hitting is your DH not taking multiple meatballs with a runner at 2B and nobody out.
-
Nori is in a nice groove too. Both Gurriel and Aoki are hitting above .330 on the year.
-
And that was for shit situational hitting that inning.
-
Well, that was an opportunity wasted.
-
Taking strike three wit RISP drives me nuts. To do it twice in the same inning ought to get someone kicked in the nuts.
-
I can't help it but I still get pissed at Blummer when the subject of the 2005 WS comes up.
Son of a bithc... a homerun by Jackson
-
And after completely stomping their dicks, 1-0 Indians on a 2-strike HR from the number 9 hitter, his first in three years.
-
This is not a fast-starting team.
-
Gurriel is definitely locked in.
-
Bonsai!!
-
Aoki with an RBI double! Runners at 2B and 3B nobody out for the top of the order.
-
Aoki is such an anomaly on this team. I really like it!
-
Great AB
-
Hell yeah Reddick!
-
Reddick with a 2-run single. Moved to 2B on the throw and had 3B if he wanted it because nobody was covering.
-
Geez Beltran swingbthe fucking bat.
-
Fuck!!!!!
Swing the fucking bats!!!!
-
Astros score three, no thanks to the meat of the order, and lead 3-1.
-

Looked to me like the Tomlin had third covered
-
What. A. Catch!
-
Josh Reddick the thief.
-
Looked to me like the Tomlin had third covered
Didn't see him. If he did, he was WAY out of position.
-
Looked to me like the Tomlin had third covered
Went back and looked. Nope, Tomlin was backing up the plate, as he should have been.
-
Man, I'd hate to see how much y'all would bitch about a team that wasn't 13-6 and winning.

Huh. Well Reddick was watching someone run to third.

He was watching the play in CF. no one was covering 3B.
-

That's not where the pitcher goes in those situations; the pitcher is supposed to back up home plate.
-
He was watching the play in CF. no one was covering 3B.
Clearly looked towards third twice. i can't imagine he missed it being open. I'm clearly wrong about it being Tomlin.
-
I really don't understand why Seattle felt they didn't need Aoki.

Clearly they wanted the best chance at losing.

The third baseman was near the mound when took the cut off throw and fired it to CF. The CF camera view shows him was making his way back towards third. It would have been close.

Unless someone ran in from off the bench. Tomlinson was behind the plate, third baseman made the cut and throw and was between the mound and the plate, and the SS was covering 2B. Third baseman eventually made a break to go cover, but he was almost as far from the bag as Reddick was.
-
Teo in to RF, Aoki to LF. Struggling to figure why Teo is in RF and Reddick in CF rather than vice versa.

Sure, but the whole point of calling him up is to have an a CF here.

Kuechel's pitch count is still south of 80.

Yeah, I'm not completely sold on Teo in CF. Might as well reward Reddick for his earlier catch.

That's why I'm shocked that Kemp didn't get the call.
-
Another run would be nice.
-
Good time for Altuve to take a bag.
-
Nice cutoff by Brantley. I thought that was going to get through.
-
Brantley made a nice play to keep Correa's laser from reaching the wall and scoring altuve.

-
Damn. McCann had a couple of good pitches to hit, he just didn't hit one.
-
Dammit, McCann strikes out with men on the corners for out one.
-
Situational. Hitting. For. Shit.
-
That was entirely too predictable.
-
Fuck. Another twin killing.
-
Fucking shit. Double play.
-
Good to see Correa have a couple hits. That single reminded me of a lot of the right handed swats Berkman would send past left fielders. Prettier swing by Correa though.
-
Fuck

Uh oh....
-
Shit. Can't someone call it? Fuck boys.
-
God damn it.
-
Both still on the ground.
-
Teo might have a broken sternum.
-
Teoscar can't even stand up. Will need a stretcher.
-
I think Teo has a broken leg.
-
And I wouldn't be surprised to see Altuve join Marisnick on the concussion DL.
-
Altuve out of the game too
-
So looks like Springer in to RF and Marwin to 2B.
-
Need some fucking ground balls now.
-
Man, what a bummer. Hope Teo is just bruised and Altuve is not concussed.
-
Hate to see Springer in the game and risk aggravating the hammy.
-

Other option is Gattis in and make the pitcher hit.
-
I really have no idea where the strike zone is tonight.

Looking at the replay, I'm pretty sure Teo broke his leg.

What a weird fucking inning. I'm ready for it to end.
-
Tough luck comebacker now. Tying run on base
-
Whew.
-
Is Mills the bench coach for Cleveland?

I think you're right. If it didn't break, it's made of iron.

His leg stuck when they collided. Could be a knee injury.
-

Altuve's knee went right into Teo's tibia.
-

They were spending a lot of time on his shin, and I didn't notice too much concern about the knee. If you have to pick between a broken bone and a torn-up knee, I think you prefer the broken bone.
-
Shit. Can't someone call it? Fuck boys.
In all honesty, the ball in no man's land is a tough one to call, particularly if you're not sure that you can get to it.
-
Is Mills the bench coach for Cleveland?
Yes, just like he was for Tito in Boston.
-
I hope they get the audio better tomorrow. The announcers sound muffled.
-
Altuve's knee went right into Teo's tibia.
And it looked to me like Teo's cleats stuck when it did.

How the fuck did Aoki hit that?
-
Screw you Francona, you should be yelling at you catcher for making a shitty throw.
-
Springer needs to be sacrificing here.
-
Francona is arguing that Aoki was inside the line, but he's off base. Aoki stayed right on the line

I'm holding my breath until we get a report about Altuve. He walked off, but he's a tough hombre.

Yeah, your complaint about running inside the baseline rings pretty hollow when the catcher throws the ball four feet to the right of the runner.
-

No issues for me.
-
Just a bit too shallow but Aoki had to try.
-
I didn't think that Springer hit the ball far enough to score Aoki.
-
4-2 now. Still nobody out in the 9th
-
Dallas didn't even turn his head, he knew off Brantley's bat that was gone.
-
Easy TV crew, the game ain't over yet.
-
Tying run to the plate. One out.
-
Someone else should be finishing this game.

Great game, kind of. My nerves are shot. Hoping for good news.

I disagree. Keuchel earned the right to try to finish it. If I had been Hinch, I wouldn't have let Keuchel lose the game, so had the winning run come to the plate, I'd have brought in Giles. But it didn't.

I hear you, and normally I agree. But after cruising along through the 7th with 80 pitches, he threw 15 in the bizarre 8th where they put some good swings on him. I saw no reason to let him throw 22 more in the 9th. And you know I'm not a "pitch count" guy. I just would have let him hit the shower after a relatively easy game, and let a fresh arm finish off the last three.
And I'm sure the part about losing the game was what Hinch told him when he went out there with two out and a man on. "This is your last hitter, one way or another". I'm glad it worked out.

You make some great points. His stuff had started to flatten out in the 8th. Seeing the world through the eyes of a pitcher, I naturally want the pitcher to get a shot at a rare complete game.
-
Best play of the game last night was Reddick flipping the ball from his glove to his bare hand after robbing Kipnis - better than any Valbuena bat flip.

Im with HH on this too, especially considering that weird B8. I was really surprised to see him back out there for the 9th.

HH made some valid points as usual. However, I still think that Luhnow did the right thing by allowing Keuchel to stay in the game. Giles has been great in save situations, but in non-save situations, not so much. Obviously, last night was a save situation, but you never know what's going to happen when you run a new pitcher out there in a clean inning, even one as good as Giles. We knew what Keuchel was last night, while Giles was an unknown.
