Dear Bullpen,
Be ready.
-
Not much opportunity for success in Florida this week end unless the hitters produce - a lot.
-
Dear Bullpen,
Be ready.
Are you saying they'll need to put out Fiers?

-
Well, that didn't take long. Fiers gives up a leadoff home run...1-0 Rays
The only question on that one was if it stayed fair.
-
El Jugador!!!
Ties it up 1-1
-
Beltran can still see the ball and swing the bat well.
-
For a reasonably small guy, Bregman is slow as shit.
-
T2:
Beltran homers to RCF
Bregman...full count...grounds deep into the hole at SS, Beckham's lollipop throw almost hits the catwalk, get's Bregman by two steps
McCann flies out to deep RCF, as Kiermaier leaps and grabs it at the top of the wall
Gurriel grounds out 6-3
1-1
-
The boys are getting some good wood on the ball.
-
Another leadoff home run for the Rays
2-1
-
Their boys are getting some good wood on the ball too.
-
Wow, long run to make that catch for Springer.
-
Swell effort by Bregman.
-
Fiers getting absolutely rocked
-
B2:
Morrison homers to RCF
Norris lines to LCF, diving catch by Springer!
Strom out to tell Fiers to quit throwing puss
Peterson with a check swing chopper to 3B...called out, but clearly beat the throw by a full step...it will be overturned...yep, overturned. Wasn't particularly close.
Beckham hits a screaming line drive, but right at Bregman
Peterson moves to 2B on a wild pitch
Dickerson...who wears hideously ugly white shoes...grounds out 3-1
2-1 Rays
-

Fiers has now given up 6 home runs in 11.1 innings this year
-
Fiers is getting lit-up.
-
The is my first game to watch as a retired AT&T employee.
-
Fiers is a better pinch runner than pitcher.
-
Who replaces Fiers?

Are you living the life of luxury now? If so, congratulations!
-
Altuve did a great job on that catch and tag.
-
Who replaces Fiers?
Peacock? When did he pitch last?
-
Are you living the life of luxury now? If so, congratulations!
Yes, but it comes with quite a pay cut. Thanks.
-
B3:
Kiermaier grounds up the middle, Correa is there..6-3
Longoria homers to LCF
Miller walks
Miller steals 2B...good throw would have got him easily but up the line...Hinch challenging...replay shows him clearly out on a nice tag on the ankle by Altuve...yep, overturned, 6-4 caught stealing
Souza singles to RF...Reddick dives, but traps it
Morrison, who also wears ugly white shoes...grounds out 3U
3-1 Rays
-
The is my first game to watch as a retired AT&T employee.
Congratulations!
A man of leisure now. Had to get a snake out of the house at the ranch tonight, so watch out at the slack shack. Getting that time of year.
-
Peacock? When did he pitch last?
Peacock pitched in the Angels series...maybe the first game?
-
Altuve needs to hit a home run tonight.
-
Altuve got out-guessed on that one.
-
I wonder if Ty is at the game?
-
Astros with runners on the corners with two out...
-
Congratulations!

Thanks. I got a big ol' bull snake that lives under my tool shed.
-
McCann owns Cobb.
-
Back to back RBI singles from McCann and Gurriel...tied up 3-3!!
-
Yuli with a single. tie game! Four two out hits.
-
T4:
Altuve grounds to 3B, Longoria bounces the throw, Morrison can't handle...TE5
Altuve immediately picked off of 1B before the next pitch

Beltran...3-0...pops up behind the plate...Norris can't find it...gotta score that E2...Beltran eventually singles to RF
Bregman...3-0...3-1...3-2...singles up the middle, Beltran moves to 3B
McCann singles, Beltran scores, Bregman to 3B
Gurriel singles to LF, Bregman scores, McCann to 2B
Aoki strikes out swinging at a pitch that bounces in front of the plate
Astros tie it up 3-3
-
McCann owns Cobb.
To my mind, this is one of most interesting phenomena in sports. It's not like it's a great player clubbing a shitty player. McCann's good, Cobb's good, Cobb gets plenty of other guys out. But this matchup is very one-sided. And there are plenty of other examples of mismatches like this.
-
Thanks. I got a big ol' bull snake that lives under my tool shed.
I'm cool with snakes outside. But when they get on the countertops...they gotsta go.
-

How the fuck do they climb the cabinets?
-
Congratulations! I have always considered myself much better suited to a life of leisure than gainful employment, but unfortunately I've made terrible procreative choices in that respect.

B4:
Norris flies out F8
Peterson strikes out swinging
Beckham punches out looking
3-3
-
Man, Fiers looked like a real pitcher in that inning.
-
Hey, whaddya know? Fiers goes a whole inning without giving up a home run.
-
How the fuck do they climb the cabinets?
Rat snakes can climb like motherfuckers. That's how you know it's not a copperhead...they can't climb.
-

Thanks, I never had any kids but about thirty years ago, thinking I would someday have kids, I started a savings account specifically to pay for college for any future progeny. I put it in a fund just kept contributing to it. Turned out to be one of the best things I ever did for myself.
-
I wonder if Ty is at the game?
Ty is up at his hippie fest on the Suwannee River this weekend. He was lamenting missing this series.
-
T5:
Springer works the count full, but strikes out swinging at a pitch in the dirt
Reddick strikes out swinging
Altuve singles to RCF against the shift
Altuve immediately picked off of 1B before the first pitch
Wow.
3-3 still
-
Ok, once I can understand, but twice is unacceptable.
-
Dammit Jose. Getting picked off is bad, twice in one game is terrible.
-
Ok, once I can understand, but twice is unacceptable.
It happens every once in a while when you're aggressive. Back to back...you're just not paying attention.
-
B5:
Dickerson strikes out swinging
KIermaier grounds to 1B, under Gurriel's glove, then under Altuve's glove. Scored a hit, but damn two shots at that muther and nothin'
Longoria...0-2...1-2...2-2...3-2...chops to SS, out 6-3, Kiermaier, moving on the pitch, to 2B
Miller flies out F8
Still 3-3 through five
-
So unless the Astros put up a crooked number next half inning, that should be all for Fiers.
-
So unless the Astros put up a crooked number next half inning, that should be all for Fiers.
Even so, that's about two more innings than I was thinking he'd provide.
-
T6:
Correa grounds out 6-3 on the first pitch
Beltran grounds out 4-3
Bregman strikes out looking
3-3
-
B6:
Feliz in for the Astros
Souza grounds out 6-3 on the first pitch
Morrison flies out F8
Norris lines out to 1B
3-3
-
but unfortunately I've made terrible procreative choices in that respect.
And geographic, if memory serves correctly.

I've read all of Jumbo Diaz's novels.
-
I've read all of Jumbo Diaz's novels.
All one of them?
-
Back to back hits put Astros at 2B and 3B with nobody out...
-
I've read all of Jumbo Diaz's novels.
And what brings him to mind, Biz's poor procreative decisions?
-
All one of them?
I figured the number was zero.
-
All one of them?
Yes. The Large Wondrous Life of Oscar Wow. And then two story collections.
-

They weren't short stories. They were big stories.
-
Bases drunk...nobody out...Jumbo Diaz takes the pill...
-
Just looking at the Wanee Festival lineup, you could take a U-Haul trailer up there filled with patchouli and glow sticks and just about get to where you could retire like Sphinx.
-
All one of them?
Junot's knowledge of Hispanic regional dialect profanity might rival your own. Google didn't even provide much help.
-

I'm a big fan. I wish he were much more prolific.
-
I'm a big fan. I wish he were much more prolific.
How much more prolific could he be? Any bigger and he's Jabba Diaz.
-
T7:
McCann lines a single past the first baseman
Gurriel doubles over the LFers head, McCann chugs into 3B and barely makes it
Aoki walks to load the bases
That's all for Cobb, Jumbo Diaz in...
Springer grounds to 3B...Longoria bobbles it and has to take the out at 3B, but McCann scores, Aoki to 2B
Marisnick in to pinch run for Aoki
Reddick pops out F5
Altuve taps back to the box
But the Astros take a 4-3 lead at the stretch
-
I'm a big fan. I wish he were much more prolific.
You talking about Jumbo or Biz? Because I heard the latter was prolific as well.
-
This is a fun team to root for

Years ago I had a random email exchange with this crazy woman (not nutsie) who told me I write like him. I don't, at all. I mean, I'm delighted you think so, but I couldn't claim anything of the sort.
Only now that you mention it does it dawn on me that my liberal injection of regional profanity might actually be what she meant.
-
BTW Happy San Jacinto Day!
-
And what brings him to mind, Biz's poor procreative decisions?
They were talking about Jumbo warming up in the bullpen. I had a strange wait what moment.
-

It's my brother's birthday, too.
-

I eventually pieced that together. I have the volume quite low and between the fan and the street noise I can't tell whether they're discussing the outfield dipping pool or toothsome ballpark sweetmeats.

Sweetmeats. Definitely sweetmeats.

It was the sort of sophisticated, high-brow humor I'm known for. Have I told you the joke about the pig, the monkey, the nun, and the banana peel?
-
I read an article he wrote for the New Yorker titled Muy Mucho Mas Grande. Great insights. Visionary.
-
B7:
Will Harris in...
Game delayed waiting for Gurriel...must have been taking a shit
Peterson grounds out 3U
Beckham hammers one to the LF wall,, flips the bat...admires his drive...held to a single
Dickerson...full count...flies out F8
Borjous...who came in for Kiermaier earlier...grounds out 4-3 on a diving stop by Altuve!
4-3 Astros
-

If it's the one that involves castor oil, then, yes, of course. Like nine times.
-
I love Kiermaier, but it wouldn't break my heart to learn that he wouldn't play in the remainder of this series.
-

I love the kind of outfield he plays. Did they say what happened?
-
Ha, ha, that was Hinch telling Altuve that he's been picked off twice tonight, and that play only makes up for one of them.
-

I don't think so. They showed him going into first on his hit, and it looked a little like he might be pulling up. And then he wound up going to third, but they didn't show any video of that. But I'm guessing he's got a twinge in his hammy.
-
Ha, ha, that was Hinch telling Altuve that he's been picked off twice tonight, and that play only makes up for one of them.
I ran it back to watch.
-
Speaking of, I recently saw a photo of Raup the Younger posing with some towering fellow made up in a theatrical sort of whiteface. Point is RtY appears to be cultivating something of an off the grid look.
-

Left the game due to illness.
-
T8:
Correa...works the count full, and draws a leadoff walk...good AB
Beltran strikes out swinging
Bregman grounds into 5-4-3 double play
4-3 Astros
-
B8:
Gregerson in...
Longoria strikes out looking
Miller taps back to the mound on the first pitch
Souza flies out F9
4-3 Astros
-
Other than that one shitty night in Kansas City, Gregerson has pitched really well this year,
-
Rockets down 29-18...2:00 left in the first.
-
Gurriel smoked that
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
-
Astros on 2B and 3B...nobody out...
Need to punch an insurance run or two in
-
Gurriel smoked that
He needs to learn that if he wants to drive in McCann he'll have to hit the ball out of the park.
-
Gurriel smoked that
Left fielder ate some fence on that one.
-
Farquhar is coming awfully close to a balk...not stopping
-
T9:
Fuckwad in for the Rays...
McCann lays down a bunt against the shift, Longoria can't pick it up...bunt single
Gurriel doubles off the top of the LF wall, McCann chugs into 3B
Marisnick...infield in...strikes out swinging
Springer...infield still in...walks
Reddick flies out F8 at the wall in dead center field...score it a sac fly, as McCann scores, Gurriel to 3B
Wild pitch!! Gurriel scores, Springer to 2B
Altuve grounds out 6-3
to the bottom of the 9th...Astros up 6-3
-
Even though Altuve made an out, he may have eliminated Farqhuar from the Sat/Sun games.
-
Win!

-
B9:
Giles in to try to close it out...
Morrison flies out F8
Norris strikes out swinging
Peterson...quickly 0-2...PONCHE!!
Astros win!
-
Woo hoo!
-
That's a good win...Fiers kept the damage to a minimum, took advantage of extra outs, situational hitting and baserunning, and superb bullpen
-

Exactly. This is how teams that are a little bit better than others wind up with records that are substantially better than others.
-

You rang?
That towering fellow is Puddles Pity Party, and that off the grid look is... basically that.
