Thanks MusicMan. Go Stros!
-
Not surprising to see Marwin Gonzalez in there. He has a great career OPS of 1.120 against Iwakuma over a pretty good sample size (25 ABs).
Let's do this.
-
I was just coming to post the lineups, but MM beat me to it. Thanks, MM!

Hinch says Marisnick will start tomorrow so that all position players have a start in first 3 games.

Much thinner crowd tonight.

Everyone gets a ribbon!

Beltran just doesn't even try in the field anymore. Why on earth would you ever play him on defense?
-
T1:
Segura grounds out 5-3
Haniger strikes out swinging
Cano pops one down the LF, line, Beltran walks briskly over and lets it drop at his feet for a "double"
Cruz strikes out swinging
No score.

I was wondering if he was really a better option than Gattis. And if McCann gets hurt during a game, you haven't burned your DH if Gattis is in left.

I was thinking the exact same thing. He went after that ball with zero enthusiasm. I assumed it was going well foul based on his slow jog in its direction, but it was easily fair, landing about 5 feet from his non-outstretched glove. What the fuck.
-
B1:
Springer chops one to 3B, Seager ole's it, knocks it down, E5
Bregman grounds into 5-4-3 double play on the first pitch
Altuve...quickly down 0-2...grounds to SS, Altuve beats it out, as the ump gives the safe sign with two fists...M's to challenge...should be overturned...yep, 6-3
No score after one
-
T2:
Seager grounds to 2B, shift on, and Correa is there...6-3
Valencia chops to SS, and with the shift, Altuve is there, so score it 4-3
Martin strikes out swinging
No score still
-
I could be wrong, but it seems like Beltran's lost a step since the last time he was an Astro.

Just one?
-
B2:
Correa strikes out swinging
Beltran grounds out 6-3
Reddick...3-0...3-1...3-2...grounds out 5-3 to SS
0-0

Just one?
Maybe there was a rock in his shoe.

Mccullers pretty sharp so far. Needs to continue that

MCCANN!
He's no Ausmus.

He's no Ausmus.
I was going to say he hits like Ausmus.

McCann has as many HRs as Gomez.

Do they not allow Kleenex tissues in the dugout?

Brillo pads. This is a manly sport.

Looks like Springer has lost a step.

It's weird how much he sucks at stealing bases.

I had to go back and re-watch that. I'm still not sure how he made it close with that rock dragging behind.

I guess Pettis didn't get his gift.

That inning could have been really bad

Good job getting out of that with minimal damage

It's weird how much he sucks at stealing bases.
He certainly sucked at it last year. In 2015, he stole 16 in 20 tries - an 80% success rate. 2014, 5 in 7 tries. In the minors, he stole 88 in 104 tries - an 85% success rate. So he was excellent at it before.
So I'm not sure what happened last year, or why it took him so long to make it to 2nd last inning.

Where's Ashby? I miss Ashby.
-
Where's Ashby? I miss Ashby.
That's intriguing.
-
Where's Ashby? I miss Ashby.
It'll take me at least a season to objectively decide if I like the new guy. Right now they could've just put the AI announcers from the PS3 2013 edition of MLB "The Show" on the air and I'd still just be thrilled not to be listening to Ashby.
-
Fuck. E5 and a walk. Another stressful inning
-
New camera angle will take some getting used to. Harder to tell pitches up and down.
-
McCann has lost a step
-
McCann has lost a step
McCann doesn't look like he ever had a step.

Another 15-ft dribbler single for the M's
-
Squibbler Zone in full force tonight.
-
Keuchel would have made that play.
-
Fucking marmots. I hate marmots.
-

I'm pretty sure it was a vole.

Center field may be big enough that Springer won't crash into any walls.
-
These infield singles are gonna fucking kill me.

I only tuned in last inning. Have they hit anything out of the infield?

Keuchel!

Who gives a shit about the fucking marmot!

The flyball that Beltran lollygagged into a double. That's about it.

What does that make Beltran?

I need this vaunted lineup to start hitting.

MarWIN!

Long live the King!

MarGo!!!

You're good at this, aren't you.
-
Production from the 8 and 9 spots in the order? Yes please!
-
WTF Springer???
-
Cut it out, Springer. It's not your strength.
-
Looks like it was a hit and run and someone missed a sign.
-
A BIG FUCKING STOP SIGN. PUT IT UP.
BUNGEE CORD HIM TO THE DUGOUT RAILING IF YOU HAVE TO.

Dick stepping at it's finest.

ALTUVE! You gotta like that.
-
Thank God for Marwin.
-
I'm not a fan of the new trend to have a flat paintjob on the helmets.
-
Nice inning for Harris.
-
At the stretch...2-1 Astros
-

You have college football to thank for that.

Crotchety old man.
-

Yeah, not crazy about that either. But that's the thing now. I'll get used to it I suppose.
-
You have college football to thank for that.
Maybe they should allow players to personalize their batting helmets, like tattoos.
-
Good old Gattis...takes a meatball right down the middle, then swings at a slider bouncing in the other box.

You are yelling at the wrong guy. Bregman missed the hit and run sign.
-
That is some hair. It's the kind of thing that Swabbies are known for.
-
Good work by Gregerson.
-
That strike zone has given me agita.
-
Good work by Gregerson.
Good pitching the whole game. Lucky they built this team around pitching.
-
To the 9th...Giles in to try to close out a 2-1 lead...
-
1-out double puts the tying run in scoring position
-
That is one fast human.
-
Astros win!!!
-
What a fine game.
-
2 down 160 to go.
-
Great win. Come on Morton. Show us something.
-
Well done, lads.
-
Tidy win again. The Giles slider hasn't looked to be any more merciful to hitters this year than it was last.

The power of the optimist.

Defense ahead of the offense so far :)
Speaking of, the regulars, the following are ++ defenders, Altuve, Correa, Bregman, Springer, Reddick. Don't have an opinion on 1st or Aoki yet.

I like Gurriel at 1B. He's got a good glove.
-
From what I saw last night, I would have to agree.
-

Never hurts to have some range at first too. Doesn't always come in to play but why not? They have 4 middle infielders covering the infield, sorta like last years OF defense with three CF-ers.

The defensive replacement OF of Reddick-Marisnick-Springer comes very close to that.

Yes it does! I'm really happy Marisnick is still on the team.

Kind of ironic considering he is the guy in the clubhouse providing advice on how to be a professional.

Well, I don't know that it's a lack of motivation. He just moves like he's 100 years old compared to other guys. Perhaps that's just all he has left in the tank.
-

Like that's ever stopped me before?

I'm sure that is true. Amazing he is still playing in the field at all. I did not mean it as a knock on his leadership contributions.
-
Let it be noted that the #8 and 9 hitters last night provided the RBIs/HRs.

4 HRs out of the 5 total runs, right? I'm not seeing a lot of small ball.

Saving that for when the top two starters aren't on the mound and they need to reach back for something extra.

Springer tried that, and ended up duct taped to the dugout railing.

That was the problem. He should have removed the duct tape before he tried to steal.
