Not much of a crowd.
Not much of a pitcher.

Not much of a pitcher.
This
-
Jesus Christ, they are hitting rockets off Fister.
-
Not much of a crowd.
Probably home watching Great Britain play Pakistan on MLBtv.
-
Lousy job by Springer there, not that it would have prevented the run scoring from third.
-
T2:
Pujols doubles off the LF wall
Cron doubles to RCF, Pujols scores
Simmons grounds out 6-3, Cron to 3B
Buss doubles to RCF as Springer runs in on a flair and it goes over his head, Simmons scores
Perez grounds out 5-3
Pennington grounds out 3U
2-0 Angels
-
Marwin with a sac fly to cut the lead in half
-
B2:
Correa...takes a cookie for strike one...takes a cookie for strike two...works the count full...doubles off the RF wall
Correa to 3B on a wild pitch...Perez blocked it but couldn't find it
Gattis strikes out flailing at a slider 8 feet outside in the dirt.
Marwin with a sac fly to LF, Correa scores
Kemp strikes out swinging at a pitch that almost hits his feet.
2-1 Angels
-
That first pitch to Gattis should have been hit about 525 feet.
-
I wonder how much Snickers had to pay to get Willem Defoe and Martin Scorsese to trash their dignity.
-
Fister pitching is like a Chinese water torture. Dink, dink, dink, dink, ...
-
T3:
Escobar strikes out looking...Escobar bitching and leaping around like his ass was on fire
Calhoun singles to LF against the shift
Trout bloops a single to CF, Calhoun to 2B
Pujols lines out to LF
Cron grounds out 3-1
2-1 Halos
-
That first pitch to Gattis should have been hit about 525 feet.
Gotta swing at it first. He was waiting for that slider in the dirt.
-
T3:
Escobar strikes out looking...Escobar bitching and leaping around like his ass was on fire
Calhoun singles to LF against the shift
Trout bloops a single to CF, Calhoun to 2B
Pujols lines out to LF
Cron grounds out 3-1
2-1 Halos
Pretty normal for Escobar. Saw a lot of him when he was with TB and he is one of those guys that there is always something...
-
B3:
Castro with a broken bat gork into LF for a single
Hernandez strikes out swinging at a slider that bounces in the other box
Springer singles to RF, Castro to 2B
Gurriel pops up to SS on the first pitch...IFF in effect
Ash explains the IFF rule
Altuve rolls over on a meatball and grounds into a FC...Springer out 5-4
2-1 Angels
-
Fuck this...I'm breaking out the bourbon and cigar
-
T4:
Simmons strikes out swinging, pirouettes in the box on the swing
Buss walks
Buss caught stealing on a pitch out that Perez swings at
Perez grounds to 3B, Gurriel takes it off the chest, bounces right to Correa who nabs him for the old 5-6-3 groundout.
That was an odd inning
2-1
-
Fuck this...I'm breaking out the bourbon and cigar
What were you waiting for? I'm already deep into the bourbon.
-
What were you waiting for? I'm already deep into the bourbon.
Had to finish my Whataburger. I lost power here at the ranch about 4:00, and couldn't cook supper, so I had to go to town. Now I've finished. And I have power back.
-
Geez, how many fucking meatballs does Gattis plan on taking?
-
And for the record...the Cuban sandwich at MMPUS sucks donkey. Don't waste your $13.
-
B4:
Correa lines out to RF
Gattis takes a fucking fat pitch on 2-0, swings at a 3-1 pitch he couldn't hit with a fucking broom, and finally draws a walk
Marwin...3-0...fouls back ball four...flies out to deep RCF
Kemp flies out F8
2-1 Angels
-
Does this guy really have a 7.23 ERA? And he's making the Astros look like little leaguers? This is incredibly depressing.
-
Does this guy really have a 7.23 ERA? And he's making the Astros look like little leaguers? This is incredibly depressing.
Yes, yes and hell yes.
-
T5:
Pennington strikes out fouling off a bunt with two strikes
Escobar grounds out 6-3 on a nice backhanded play by Correa
Calhoun lines one over the 2B bag, but Correa is there on the shift and makes a spectacular diving catch. Shift helps out there
2-1
-
Burgers and brats cooked and consumed. Cold beer on hand. Time for a rally!
-
B5:
Castro grounds out 5-3
Hernandez grounds out 5-3
Springer grounds out 6-3
2-1

Why the fuck is Hoyt pitching in this game?
-
Why the fuck is Hoyt pitching in this game?
Because Fister was on borrowed time?
-
Because Fister was on borrowed time?
Isn't there someone else? Feliz? Devenski? Tyler White?
-
Oh, here, I'll hit this ball just shitty enough that the only play is a bang-bang at 1st. Sometimes this game is just cruel.
-
Isn't there someone else? Feliz? Devenski? Tyler White?
I'm not yet convinced that Hoyt isn't useful.
-
Oh, here, I'll hit this ball just shitty enough that the only play is a bang-bang at 1st. Sometimes this game is just cruel.
And sometimes you fuck yourself in the ass by pitching James Hoyt.
-
I'm not yet convinced that Hoyt isn't useful.
Well, keep thinking on it a bit.
-
T6:
Hoyt in for the Astros
Trout takes strike one for ball two...takes strike two for ball three...takes strike three for ball four...no wonder that fucker is hitting .300...his strike zone is four inches square
Pujols singles to LF, Trout, who was running on the pitch, moves to 3B
Cron pops out to shallow RF, Trout has to hold
Simmons grounds out 6-3, Trout scores, Pujols to 2B
Buss walks
Wild pitch...Pujols to 3B, Buss to 2B
Perez strikes out swinging
3-1 Halos
-
If they want to actually make the playoffs then scoring 1 run every 15 innings against the fucking Angels isn't gunna cut it. Pitching isn't the issue right now.
-
I had a Cuban sandwich not too long ago that was MMP level terrible. I can't for the life of me remember where it was. It had to have been somewhere that I had some reason to think they might make an acceptable sandwich. I don't even remember what country it was.
I'll tell you one place you can't find a decent Cuban sandwich and that's Cuba.
-
Ok, it's time to quit fucking around and put the hurt on these guys. Bases loaded, 1 out, some schlub coming in out of the bullpen to face Gonzalez. Time to put the hammer down.
-
Astros chase Meyer with the bases juiced and one out in the 6th...
-

Never been to Cuba, so I can't comment on the quality of the average mixto there. But it's all about the bread. If you don't start with decent Cuban bread, you're sandwich is doomed to suck.
-
2-run single for Marwin....tie game!
-
With Bregman going down having Marwin around is the shit. He's my new Billy Spiers.
-
At what point do we elevate Marwin to the same status as The Great Bill Spiers?
-
White with an RBI single...Astros grab a 4-3 lead
-
In Panama the bread you want is pretty ubiquitous. They call it pan flauta. And they have a pressed sandwich they call a prensao, which is usually ham and cheese, but they don't really understand the delicate mix of key ingredients that is necessary for a good Cuban sandwich.
-
The great White has been just that lately, great.
-

This is true of most sandwiches. People really neglect good bread in their sandwich building.

How similar is good bread for a Cuban to a good telera roll for a Mexican torta?
-
Castro with an infield single...but another throwing error plates another run...5-3 Astros
-
Runs....wow
-
Well this has escalated quickly...
-
B6:
Gurriel chops a roller to 3B, Escobar barehands it and throws it into the camera well...scored a single and advancing to 2B on a TE5
Altuve grounds out 6-3
Correa walks
Gattis...3-0...four pitch walk...Gurriel to 3B, Correa to 2B
That's it for Meyer, Guerra in
Marwin...full count...singles up the middle, Gurriel scores, Correa scores, Gattis to 2B
White, pinch hitting for Kemp...3-1...singles to CF, Gattis scores, Marwin to 2B
Marisnick pinch running for White
Castro grounds to 1B, Cron knocks it down, but throws it back towards the plate...Marwin scores, Marisnick to 3B...scored a single and a TE3
Guerra out...Morin in...
First pitch from Morin goes off of Perez's glove for a passed ball, Marisnick scores, Castro to 2B
Hernandez pops out F2 in foul ground
Springer flies out F8
But the Astros bat around...lead 6-3
-
It's always nice to have the other team gift a bunch of runs.
-
How similar is good bread for a Cuban to a good telera roll for a Mexican torta?
How similar are the breads, or how similar are they in importance to their respective sandwiches?
-

-
How similar is good bread for a Cuban to a good telera roll for a Mexican torta?
That's a good question. I think that in general the telera roll is likely to be a little chewier, a little denser and a little more flavorful. It gets grilled, too, of course, and the presence of refried beans really changes the personality of the bread for me. The pan cubano will be very airy despite its solid crust, very little detectable yeast.
What do you think?
The bread in Cuba that they use for sandwiches is a frightful thing. It's very thick and crumbly almost like cornbread. Of course the sandwich itself is about twelve cents so it doesn't hurt very much to experimentate.
-
What distinguishes a Poboy from a sandwich?
-
How similar are the breads to one another?
Not much. Cuban bread has a hard flaky crust and a soft, slightly chewy inside. It's made with lard and baked in a long thin roll, about three feet long, with a palmetto frond laid across the top.
-
What distinguishes a Poboy from a sandwich?
A poboy is sort of like a sub. The ones I ate as a boy from Antone's on South Main were cold cuts and cheese. The closer you get to pravatalandia the more likely you are to see fried seafood of one kind or another.
-
T7:
Harris in...
Pennington strikes out swinging
Escobar walks
Calhoun strikes out swinging
Trout flies out F9
6-3 Astros
-

Don't they also have the monstrosity known as "mayonnaise" on them?
-
Man, Altuve just got fucked.
-
If you want to see a legit Cuban bread example, Google La Segunda bakery in Tampa.
-
B7:
Achter in for the Angels...
Gurriel draws a four pitch walk
Altuve grounds into 6-4-3 double play
Correa flies out F8
6-3 Astros
-
Altuve grounds into 6-4-3 double play
That's understating things just a bit.
-
That's understating things just a bit.
Yeah, it was a really nice play by Simmons...was distracted thinking about sandwiches.
-

Ok thanks, I got the sub part but the rest is a little cryptic.
-
Don't they also have the monstrosity known as "mayonnaise" on them?
Indeed they do, and pickled vegetables. I am well aware that some people despise mayonnaise but I don't understand it. Maybe it's something genetic like cilantro hatred.
I have a mayohating friend who once went on an epic rant about talking to a woman who had a dab of mayonnaise on her lip. Every time I run into him I think, Damn, I wish I had some time to prepare.
-
Ok thanks, I got the sub part but the rest is a little cryptic.
The poboys served in Houston generally have cold cuts. The ones you're likely to find in New Orleans are likely to have fried seafood - catfish, oysters, maybe shrimp.
I'm just glad you didn't ask about a muffaletta.
-
T8:
Gregerson in...
Pujols doubles down the left field line, stretches it into a single
Cron doubles to RCF, Pujols to 3B
Simmons pops out F3
Buss grounds out 4-3, Pujols scores, Cron to 3B
Choi, pinch hitting for Perez, 3-0...3-1...3-2...strikes out on a check swing
Halos plate a run, but Gregerson does a nice job of limiting damage...Astros lead 6-4
-
I thought one month ago that Tyler White would be irrelevant down the stretch. He has had a lot of big hits. Good for him.
-

Roger, that I understand. It also aligns to my somewhat limited poboy experience. Had some nice catfish and shrimp poboys in Louisiana. I had to Google muffaletta, but I reckon I would eat the hell out of them... it is had to beat Italian breads.
-
B8:
Rasmus, the other one, in for the Halos
Gattis...full count...strikes out looking
Marwin draws a four pitch walk
Marisnick singles to CF, Marwin to 2B
That's it for Rasmus...Ege in
Castro grounds into 4-6-3 twin killing
To the 9th...6-4 Astros
-
Well shitfuck....single, home run...blown save
-
Giles trade keeps paying off.
-
Well shitfuck....single, home run...blown save
You forgot to add meatball.
-
As incredible as this is to say, I find Giles more frustrating than Billy Wags.
-

He's got some Wagner in him.
-
That's unbelievable
-
That's unbelievable
And by unbelievable you mean completely believable.
-
And by unbelievable you mean completely believable.
Yes, like almost saw it coming believable.
-
He's got some Wagner in him.
With a slight pinch of Lima.
-
Giles is an outstanding closer and I for one love the trade.
-
Fucking lucky cocksuckers.
-
I am really tired of Giles' ability to fuck things up.
-
Astros now down 7-6, Angels still batting...Orioles came back and won in 12...barring a 9th inning rally, stick a fork in this season.
-
This sucks
-
I am really tired of Giles' ability to fuck things up.
When he fucks things up he doesn't fuck around.
-
As incredible as this is to say, I find Giles more frustrating than Billy Wags.
Because he's not as good
-
Fucking Ashby makes good games annoying and shit sandwiches like this fucking unbearable. Smug fucking coxksucker.
-
With a slight pinch of Lima.
He's the right handed version of Wagner. Big fastball, good slider, too many meatballs.
-
Giles leaves with the bases loaded and one out, having given up three runs on three walks and three hits, including a home run.
-
There goes Giles and his 12-11:55 slider.
-
He's the right handed version of Wagner. Big fastball, good slider, too many meatballs.
And a flair for the anti-dramatic.
-
Wagner was almost always around the plate. Giles is all over the place. When Giles has his good slider he is almost untouchable. Wagner's slider was not nearly as deadly as Giles' can be. Sadly at this point Giles is very, very inconsistent.
-
Man, this fucking team is just amazing at finding ways to shit away games. Every time you think they're turning the corner, they shit the bed again.
-
This ump's strike zone is smaller than Bud Selig's dick.
-

Last year I think it was 15 games above .500. This year it seems to be 10 above. Regardless as soon as they get close to breaking through that line they seem to pull that ballsack down and place it right in stride.
There's enough game left. Keep it at 1 run Felix.
-

You were saying?
-
Holy shit...
-
3-run bloops double...10-6 Halos. Correa injured on the dive...he's out of the game
-
Incredible. Is there anything else that can go wrong tonight?
-
Doesn't White play some SS...?
(Joking)
-
Ken Giles everyone.
-
Hard to remember a worse inning in a long time.
-
T9:
Giles in to try to close it out...
Pennington singles to RF
Escobar homers to LF on a 1-2 hanging slider right down the center of the plate, Pennington scores
Calhoun flies out to shallow CF
Trout...3-0...walks on four pitches
Trout takes 2B without a throw because Giles doesn't pay any attention whatsoever
Pujols will now be intentionally walked
Cron with a broken bat flair single to CF on a 1-2 pitch, Trout scores, Pujols to 2B
Wild pitch...Pujols to 3B, Cron to 2B...infield has to come in now
Simmons...full count...walks
That's it for Giles...Feliz in
Buss...full count...strikes out swinging
Ortega, pinch hitting for Graterol...3-0...3-1...3-2...bloops a double just over 2B, Correa dives, and it pops out of his glove as he hits the ground...Pujols scores, Cron scores, Simmons scores.
Correa injured diving for the ball, Marwin moves to SS, and Reed in to play 1B
Pennington strikes out swinging
But the Halos not only take the lead, but blow the game open...10-6 Angels
-
2 strike meatball slider with one on and nobody out. Pitch that turned the game.
-
Arrived in Galveston for the family reunion looking forward to seeing the Astros play someone besides the f'ing strangers on TV for the first time this season, and this happens.
I think I'll go wander out in the Gulf.
-
Hard to remember a worse inning in a long time.
I remember one in Pittsburgh. It involved a different Giles though.
-

You can go suck a Selig, sir.
-

As Astros fans, we've all sucked a Selig. He's easy.

Jesus, that was 15 years ago. I was in Norfolk with my daughter for an AAU track meet, and we had just gotten back to the hotel room and I got to watch the entire thing unfold. She learned a whole lot of new words that day.

I've never felt more "numb" after a game than that loss in Pittsburgh. Tonight's eventual loss is catastrophic but..... They're still in it. We still have some good baseball to watch.
-
B9:
Ramirez in...
Hernandez taps back to the mound..1-3
Springer bounces out 5-3
Gurriel bounces out 5-3
Astros stomp their dick like it's never been stomped before...10-6
-
Enjoy your shitburger, gang!
-
It ain't easy being a Stros fan, goodnight everyone.
-
Well that pretty much takes the Astros out of the running... 3 back and 3 teams ahead of them with 8 to play.
-
Hard to watch, I am going to a deli and get a big prosciutto sandwich and gulp down 3 or 4 Coronas with it and pretend this never happened.
-

Have I ever mentioned that I was at that game?
I just remembered that at some point over that weekend they gave away Pirates lunchboxes.
-
Corona? Ugh, don't be that hard on yourself!
No kidding...it's not *your* fault. You didn't throw that bullshit slider.
-

What do you think Giles is drinking?
-
What do you think Giles is drinking?
Hemlock, one hopes.
-
If this means we are out of it, so be it...I enjoyed the ride... This game beats the fuck out of every other game going. I am a member of ,"Da Who Dat Nation"; I have loved my Saints almost as long as I have loved the Astros. But there is no doubt what game is superior. Even being in the Junior Circuit these last few years has been tolerable.
As far as the NFL product, fuck them if they can't police thier league. And Fuck these guys who won't stand to honor America, and fuck the league that does not discipline them.
BBG's...have mercy and let us live, so that we can tell all those who shake their heads at the baseball loyalty we profess...let us be able to go tell them to
go fuck themselves and fuck the lame NFL product they blindly suck up to.
Good night.
-

It was more than 15 years ago wasn't it? Close to 20?
-
What do you think Giles is drinking?
Anti-freeze
-
What do you think Giles is drinking?
MGD, aged. Cans are from 1998.

What do you think Giles is drinking?
87 octane, straight from the pump

Amen. They should send some white cops down there to shoot them.
-
What do you think Giles is drinking?
Milwaukee's Best.... Ice.
-
Amen. They should send some white cops down there to shoot them.
Agreed. People's rights to express themselves through speech should be snuffed out ASAP. Who ever thought that was a good idea...?
-
I don't care what someone does during the National Anthem but it is the employers right to expect employees to behave at the workplace in accordance with their code of business conduct. To me, way to much attention is being given to a work place incident involving a symbolic gesture. Of course short sighted reactionaries on both sides will extrapolate and infer much greater meaning and purpose behind the symbolism. To kneel or not to kneel, it only makes a difference if you give a shit in the first place. To me, the issue is not the behavior, the issue is how one interprets the behavior. People get so bent over intangible crap.
That being said, the police sure seem to needlessly kill a lot of people.
And Giles couldn't carry Wagner's jock.
-

North Korea is a hell of a patriotic place.
The players are unionized, obviously, so arbitrary workplace regulations would be just about impossible to implement. Maybe the next CBA will include a provsion regarding the mandatory elbow angle to be employed during hand over heart events.

It would be fine with me if they just did away with the Anthem altogether but I suppose if I were on the downside of fame and needed a platform to draw attention to myself in the name of justice, I'd feel differently.
