I thought Hinch said they were considering giving him today off anyway.

Yes. He said he could probably go and will be in the lineup tomorrow.

I wonder where he will be in the lineup. Without the DH, is Hinch moving Bregman to LF or possibly 1B, or might Gurriel fill those spots.
-
T1:
Springer...3-2...strikes out swinging at a slider 4 feet outside
Bregman pops out F6 in foul territory
Altuve takes two strikes, swings and misses at a pitch that bounces on the grass 5 feet from the plate
No score.
-
B1:
Harrison grounds out 6-3
Marte flies out to shallow RF
McCutchen strikes out swinging
No score after one
-
T2:
Correa strikes out swinging at a pitch that almost hits him in the chest
Reed grounds out 3-1
Hernandez strikes out swinging at a pitch over his head.
No score
-
B2:
Polanco lines out to LF
Freese walks
Bell lines out to LF, Hernandez just lollygags the ball back which is too bad because Freese had rounded 2B and they had an easy double play had Teoscar not been so fucking lazy
Cervelli flies out F7
No score
-
I'm already tired of Hernandez's lollygagging shit in the outfield
-
T3:
Castro strikes out swinging at a pitch 3 feet off the plate
Marisnick bunts the first pitch...right back to the pitcher...1-3
Fister grounds back to the mound...1-3
No score
-
B3:
Mercer strikes out looking
Taillon strikes out looking
Harrison taps back to the mound
No score still
-
T4:
Springer makes an out, but they don't show it because they're showing highlights of how great he's been hitting lately. Ashby not interested in explaining it
Bregman flies out F9...nice drive the other way, but right at the RFer
Altuve hits a scorching lazer right at the third baseman, the ball bounces off the third baseman, directly to the SS, but he can't handle it either...it basically knocked down two fielders
Correa grounds into FC, Altuve out 6-4
Still no score
-
Springer grounded out to shortstop on the first pitch.
-
B4:
Marte strikes out looking
McCutchen...3-0...3-1...grounds out 6-3
Polanco doubles off the RF wall
Polanco moves to 3B on a TE-1 on an attempted pickoff
Freese strikes out swinging
Still no score
-
Taillion was 13 when Pujols broke Lidge. He threw the remote at the TV, breaking both.

Hernandez!!!
2-run shibby gives the Astros the lead
-
I'm already tired of Hernandez's lollygagging shit in the outfield
At least he seems to be able to hit right?
-
I'm already tired of Hernandez's lollygagging shit in the outfield
You know what that makes them?
Larry?!?!
-
T5:
Reed draws a leadoff walk
Reed moves to 2B on a passed ball
Hernandez homers to LF, Reed scores
Castro doubles down the RF line
Marisnick with a swinging bunt single, Castro to 3B
Fister strikes out looking, why he wasn't bunting no one knows
Springer grounds into 6-4-3 double play because Fister didn't bunt
But the Astros grab a 2-0 lead.
-
Poor strategy cost a run there.
-
Springer did not ground into a double play because Fister failed to bunt.
Jesus. Captain Grumpy's PBP.
-
B5:
Bell flies out F7
Cervelli singles to CF
Mercer flies out F8
Taillon grounds out 3U on the first pitch
2-0 Astros
-
Springer did not ground into a double play because Fister failed to bunt.
Jesus. Captain Grumpy's PBP.
So "had Fister bunted, Springer would not have grounded into a double play". That better?
-
It is, yeah. Though he still may have lined into one.
-

Say it however you like, I expected Fister to try and lay down a bunt in those circumstance.
-
Say it however you like, I expected Fister to try and lay down a bunt in those circumstance.
Exactly. At least you get it.
-
T6:
Bregman pops out F6
Altuve flies out F9 on the first pitch
Correa lines one up the middle, but the second baseman is right there...4-3
2-0 Astros
-
Exactly. At least you get it.
Radio guys discussed it briefly. They didn't say bad strategy but said Springer DP after Fister did not bunt. I take they were trying to avoid being too critical.
-
B6:
Harrison strikes out swinging
Marte flies out F8 on the first pitch
McCutchen grounds out 5-3
2-0 Astros
-
Exactly. At least you get it.
Nobody didn't get it. Fister attempted to drop the bunt on the first pitch. It's weird that he didn't keep trying after that--particularly on the juicy two-strike curveball.
The assumption that if you take the middle link out of the chain, the last link is unaffected just happens to be one of my pet peeves in baseball commentary.
-

I am not under any such restraint. You bunt there and give Springer and Bregman a chance to drive in another run or two.
-

Not bunting with runners at the corner and nobody out with an AL pitcher up is one of mine.
-
T7:
Reed reaches on an E3
Marwin in to run for Reed
Hernandez grounds into 6-4-3 double play on the first pitch
Castro strikes out looking
At the stretch...2-0 Astros
-
B7:
Polanco grounds out 3U
Freese grounds out 4-3
Bell doubles down the LF line
Cervelli flies out F7
2-0 Astros

I'd go ahead and make a shortcut for that for the future.

T8:
Marisnick strikes out swinging
Gurriel, pinch hitting for Fister...grounds out 6-3
Springer grounds out 4-3
2-0 Astros

Bregman certainly hasn't had an issue with those barehanders the last couple days

He's played really well...made some nice plays behind the bag, some nice barehanded pickups.
-
Bregman certainly hasn't had an issue with those barehanders the last couple days
It's to the point where Ashby doesn't even complain about Bregman's not using the glove.
-
B8:
Harris in for the Astros...
Mercer grounds out 5-3 on a really nice barehanded pickup by Bregman
Joyce...pinch hitting for Taillon...strikes out swinging
Harrison taps back to the mound...1-3
To the 9th...2-0 Astros
-
Bregman!!!
-
Ash cracks me up.
-
Bregman is unimpressed with NL pitching.
-
What the hell was Ashby watching?
-
McCutcheon duped the Pirates broadcasters, too--if that's what you're referring to.
-

Did he say it was going to be a fly out? I think I got conned by the radio commentators but I was surprised when it went out.

He generates an impressive amount of power with that compact swing.

Yes, he called it an easy play for McCutchen, but it was out by about 60 feet.
-
T9:
Feliz in for the Pirates
Bregman homers to CF
Altuve grounds to SS, but can't get him...infield single...Pirates challenging...reversed...score it 6-3
Correa grounds out 5-3
Marwin grounds out 4-3
Astros up 3-0
-
You could tell by the sound of the ball off the bat that he had crushed it. You had to have been paying attention, though.
-
I'm in the Pittsburgh area so I have to watch in a loud bar. It fooled me the way McCutchen set up and I looked away in frustration because I thought he crushed it. I was surprised to see the score later!
Maybe that's it. Ashby calls all of the games from a loud bar in Pittsburgh.
-
Pittsburgh broadcast zeroed in on Altuve talking intently to the intently listening Bregman for most of Margo's at bat. Looked an awful lot like leadership.
-
Beautiful baseball game.

B9:
Giles in to try to close it out...
Marte strikes out swinging
McCutchen strikes out swinging
Polanco with a rulebook double to LCF
Freese hits one hard down the 3B line...Bregman dives, but bounces the throw and Marwin can't handle it..Polanco scores on the TE-5, but the ball bounces off the railing, right back to Marwin who nails Freese trying to move to 2B...I think that's scored 5-3-4.
At any rate...Astros win 3-1

Yes sir and < 2.5 hours works for me.

I love Eastern Time Zone games.
-
A brain freeze to end the game. Nice job by the youngsters, Fister and Harris. Only minor point would be a cleaner ninth.
-
25-10 in Interleague play in the last two years. Not bad, keep rolling boys!
-

You see a different game than I do. I doubt he is lazy.

This is just crazy.
-

The broadcasters have a pretty bad location in that park. I was watching the fielder, and thought McCutcheon was drifting into position. McCutcheon must have known where that ball was going, because he sure didn't take off for the fence.
-

McCutcheon fooled me too. He acted like he had it.
-

I've seen at least five or six plays that he simply didn't hustle to the ball and didn't give himself a chance to make a play. The fly ball tonight where he was nonchalant and cost a chance at a double play was a perfect example. Hinch even addressed it in the post-game, said they'd "have a talk with him". If you think he's busting it all out, ok. I don't 'see it that way.

HH posting as jbm. Must have been an easy game for you.
-
another good win. I'm impressed about how this team plays on the road. I've watched this team forever and they never hav played well on the road except maybe their championship years. On Saturday, after that great comeback Friday night, Correa said they were going on a roll now. He said it with great confidence.

I haven't seen him play much but in this case it looked like a situational awareness issue. He wasn't hustling, at least didn't appear to be, probably because he didn't realise/recognise the need. Hey, lucky he didn't turn around and toss the ball to a fan for a souvenir... I know I have see that before but I just don't remember where and when.
-
No matter how you slice the hustle pie, this was a nice clean win for the Good Guys. The rookies supplied the pop, and the pitching was great. The play has definitely improved over the past week. Even though this team may not make the wild card, I like what I'm seeing. I love the leadership from Altuve, who I call the Piranha. This really is his team. If everyone adopts his work ethic, good things are going to happen.

I remember Berkmen doing at least once.
-
I am really delighted with Hernandez so far. His fielding will come around, not sure about his arm. I like that A.J. Reed is picking up a lot of bases on balls, he's not chasing pitches out of the zone. Musgrove had a bad outing but otherwise has been stellar. And Bregman is now meeting the highest of expectations. I like these rookies.

Looking at the replay it seems to me more about taking every baserunner seriously, even ones on first base. I'm sure it won't happen again.
-
In his post-game interview, he mentioned being unsure himself playing LF in a ballpark he had not seen. I wish I could have seen some of the harsh critics on here play. I'll bet it came very easy for you.
-

I agree. Many of us probably remember some of Jose Altuve's brain farts out in the field when he was just starting. I question Hernandez's arm, but not his speed or his bat.

Being critical of a guy's effort or awareness has nothing to do with how well we played the game. You know this.

I don't question his bat or speed either. I question his effort on a few plays. Hinch called him "cavalier" out there and said they're going to fix it.
He has shown a subpar outfield arm.

Loving the rookies play as well. After a tremendously slow star the rookies are starting to carry. Great to see. Devenski and Teoscar didn't even come into the year needing a 40-man spot (meaning they weren't and didn't need to be protected)
-

It was Lane.

I saw Larry Walker do it, so it happens to the best of them.

This is probably a better explanation.
