Whoa.

1-2-3 as Bregman records the 5-3 for the third out.

Bregman's first opportunity in the field was a tough hop off a liner and he made the play to retire Beltran.

No, Beltran will never retire.

Gotta love a 6 pitch first inning

Springer dinger.

Now that is a start - fuck the yanks.

The ABCS of the Astros have the potential to be outstanding!!

Now that is a start - fuck the yanks.
Taking the day off?
-
Totally bullshit hot take, granted, but it's been my experience this year that leadoff bombs are often the chief highlights in otherwise punchless efforts. Hope that's not the case tonight.
-
Pineda looks like he's drunk.
-
Think he celebrated the Bregman call up too much?
-
Taking the day off?
Had a bit of time off lately, including the all star week with no baseball to watch... How are you going?
-
The ABCS of the Astros
Hmmm, hadn't heard that one yet. It also has potential.
-
First series of the year nobody could get Castro out. That was nice.
-
Bregman great play at 3B
-
Bregman with a gem.
-
Brgman with a gem.
Made a very tough play, both the snag and throw, look easy.
-

El Yuli might need to invest in a OF glove.

Bregman hits the first pitch into the upper deck.
Foul, unfortunately.

nice play by the Yankee leftfielder.

Give ash some credit. He'll wait until after his second AB

I refuse to give Ashby credit

Every now and then he does something but more often than not he does nothing.

I refuse to give Ashby credit
I don't even have to hear him, using the radio feed is much better.

Bregman with another nice play. Makes it look easy

Lucky that shot wasn't about a foot higher. I doubt he would have got his hands up in time.

You should unfollow. We can't have management thinking a follow is tacit support.
-
Yankee announcers acting shocked and appalled that Beltran got boo'd.
-
So, does Ashby start counting Bregman outs until he get a hit?
Radio guys a counting his plays made in the field.

Oh I don't follow him, saw people retweeting it.

Dammit.
-
Yankee announcers acting shocked and appalled that Beltran got boo'd.
Well I am personally disgusted. The booing isn't even loud enough to be picked up on the effects mic.
-
Is it just me, or does it seem like Valbuena is on base every time Bregman comes to bat?
-
It isn't just you. It seems an awful lot like that to me, as well. If he can keep this up, Valbuena may not be retired the rest of the year.
-
Dammit.
I thought, you know, if I said something...
-
Is it just me, or does it seem like Valbuena is on base every time Bregman comes to bat?
It may seem that way because it has happened all of both times.

Agent Mengden

I wouldn't have minded Gomez busting ass and making a drive at that flair instead of positioning for a barehanded laser from center. Springer was right there, and the ball wasn't going to run far if it got by him.

Ahhh. Gotta love those two out bloop rbi singles.
-
Looked to me like he hesitated at the last second as if Springer was too close. Busting all the way he can dive for that one and we're still up.
-

I initially had the exact same thought and then pushed it aside... Yet here we are.
-
I thought, you know, if I said something...
Yeah, well it appears now they'd be lucky to score two runs tonight.

My comment was only related to the first pitch, which he should have been taking.

Typical Astros, making another awful starter look like Cy Fucking Young.

Keuchel strands Beltran on 2nd after giving up a double to him on a 1-2 hanger. Still knotted at 1.

And Ashby he can't figure out why Gomez didn't catch that ball.

Is it me or are those Yankee fans loud tonight?
-
Instead they're going to gag away a very winnable game to a shitty team, scoring one run off a butter tub with a 5+ ERA. Fantastic.

With Marisnick in center this is a 1-0 game.

I think with Bregman and the cubano playing most every day you can easily ignore Jake's bat and station him in center.

+1.
-
I'm going to hit you with a 2x4.
In all seriousness, when you look at a lineup if you have black holes in left at first and at catcher you have to think about these things. Of course the team's answer has been to play the single worst hitter on the club.
-

What a putrid at bat by Tucker. Ugh.

Holy fuck, chin high strike on Altuve.
Wow, Dana Demuth just stuck it to Altuve twice. That was embarrassing.

Altuve got fucked.

The fuck is this shit?

I would have gotten tossed and fined if that happened to me. fucking hell

Unbelievable that he calls the first two pitches above the statcast zone all day against Altuve of all players...

Betances threw one strike between Tucker and Altuve.

Gross incompetence. And the reason Altuve didn't get tossed was that Demuth knew it.

He's was discussing how long and boring games are with Ashby and Buck the other day.
That's would be a dynamite combo.
-
There are a lot of forces at work making this game unbearable to watch.
-
Yankees have had the bloops and calls go their way today. The Astros flailed at far too many Pineda sliders out of the zone to complain though.

The defense has been sharp tonight except for Gomez

It's really fun to watch how behind Bregman all the other guys seem to be.

I absolutely despise Ashby's praise of good cuts when guys foul off meatballs.

Interesting fact: Evan Gattis leads all major sports in taking fat pitches to start at bats.

And the fouled back a cement mixer down Main Street.

Come on Gomez, keep your fucking head in long enough to actually smack one.

The MLB knows that Gomez has no chance unless you throw one off his bat.

Falling down would have been a better strategy in that instance.

Thank god Gomez was in center tonight. No way Marisnik hits well enough to hit in to that double play.

The whole Gomez thing absolutely fasinates me. How bad does he have to be?
-
I hate games like this.
-
That was shitty.
-
Runner on second with one out and all they need is a fucking base hit to tie it and Gomez swings like an absolute jackass on strike one. I've personally had enough.
-
Unless Marwin should be on the DL I don't see how he wasn't a better option than Gomez.
-

Swinging hard at the first pitch is ok. Swinging hard at a slider nearly in the dirt when a double play ends it shows a lack of situational awareness and an inability to recognize the pitch, both flaws Gomez has consistently demonstrated.
-
GOMEZ is POISON !

Swinging hard is one thing but taking a hack so violent that he has no chance in hell at making meaningful contact is another. I have no doubt Gomez cares about the team and his career deeply. He certainly shows it with the effort he puts out. But at some point you have to be able to rely on your training and talent and not take at bats like Animal from the Muppets.

He's always been that way and he isn't changing now. Luhnow knew what he was buying.

Ryan Madson giveth and he taketh away. Gives up a 2-run jack in the 9th to Smiley Beltre to give the Rangers the win.

Yes I agree. But I feel like this one and the next we can and should take because come August the opponents get a little tougher. So we don't want to be in that position.

I agree they are not necessarily must win series, but I want them to win (or sweet baby Jesus sweep) so they will know they can easily beat teams with winning records.
