Title: Lance McCullers

I was really concerned after the first inning, but good god, he pitched a great game afterwards.  What a curve.

Radio guys have been covering his mechanic changes.  Apparently, he has only changed the delivery on his fastball to protect his shoulder.  The mechanical changes have caused wildness in his fastball.  His breaking pitches he throws with his normal delivery.

From my own assumptions, it usually takes a few batters for a lot of pitchers to really get their breaking pitches going.  And hence why he has really struggled early.   I'd guess this early inning issues will go away as he gets more used to the delivery change and can rely on his fastball early in the game.

breaking pitches are all about release point, which is a "feel" thing and hard as hell to coach.

You're probably right. You have to flip a few feel pitches up there to get a feel that day for that pitch, which rarely comes on the first toss. His fastball command is off though IMO.

Won't it be easy for hitters to figure out when the heater is coming if he uses a different delivery for his offspeed stuff? Maybe I'm misunderstanding.

I'm pretty sure he uses the same delivery and arm swing (what he reportedly modified) for all pitches.  I think he/they changed his arm swing (on all pitches) in an effort to help his shoulder.

Not according to the radio guys.  I was thinking this as well.
