Springer makes another loco catch to rob a HR

Springer robs. No HR for you White Sox guy.
-
Sports Center play of the day there.
-
Is Gattis being considered as the #1 catcher next year post-Castro?
-
That was a great catch. How awesome to be George Springer.

Blum is impressing me with his increasing willingness to put the kibosh on Ashby's asinine comments.

Several INTRIGUING aspects to this game, but thankfully a Sale no hitter will not be one of them.

I kinda wish I was listening to the locals just so I could hear that.
BTW...Steve Stone is still good, I didn't remember that he left the Cubs for the Sox until this series.

I was thinking the same thing!

I'm sure the fact that murder is against the law is the only reason Blum hasn't killed him yet.

HOW does it just dawn on Ashby that a first time catcher this season might ask the starting pitcher how he's working behind the plate? That's the case for the first time any starting pitcher and catcher work together.
Sometimes I really wonder if this is the same dude who actually played baseball for the Astros.

at least he acknowledges Blums' good points. but I would swear his laugh is fake.
-
how in the hell did marisnick miss that?
-
Marisnick sure made a mess of that one.
-
Kemp with his hat on bears a passing resemblance to Quark, of TV's Star Trek: Deep Space Nine fame.

If it's not, he may be an automaton.

bottom 6
Eaton triple, not sure how marisnick missed the ball - bad play, but not ruled an error
Sanchez f7 - no rbi
Abreu k breaking ball bounced in the dirt, Gattis did a great job keeping it in front of him
Frazier f7
01 1 lob
OUTSTANDING JOB BY COLIN MCHUGH
-
There's no way that should be ruled a triple. Marisnick took a bad route had to turn back a bit, the ball went off his glove, and then on top of everything else, he kicked the ball around at the fence.

Gattis is a great hitting catcher.
HR against Sale is a good thing.
-
Don't know if it was Gattis, McHugh or just the game plan for tonight, but McHugh sure threw a ton of curveballs. Nice to see Gattis handle that pitch well, and it seems like a good approach for McHugh. It's his best offering and makes his fastball more effective.

Ashby and Blum both don't know that David Carpenter was also an Astros pitcher despite having an info graphic up displaying lowest eras after being claimed off waivers and discussing the ex-Astros on the list.

The Astros may lose this game, but I really appreciate the way McHugh and Sale didn't fuck around and kept this game moving along. We're at about 2:10 right now, and that's pretty good.

This has been my favorite kind of game, I just wish the score was the other way around.
-
Gattis looked fine defensively. It sort of makes me wonder why they didn't use him earlier.
If I didn't know for a fact that Ashby was once a major league player I would never believe it. For all sorts of reasons.

WOW. What a fuckjob that was by the home plate ump to end it.

The way the HP ump walked away made it look to me like zero shits were given about strike 3. He has a steak and a martini waiting for him.

I think he was giving White the chance to bitch about it without getting in trouble.

Statcast or whatever the service is called showed the pitch as 3 inches off the plate and only called as a strike 8% of the time

It's like the game has its fly down with these home plate umps.

Statcast also showed strike 2 as a strike when it was obviously low and out when it crossed the plate. Take that for what it's worth.

I believe it was because of injuries, but yeah he looked more than serviceable.
-
Gattis looked really solid at C, imo.
