It's a new month, man. Gotta be better than the last one.
-
Altuve!!!!
Leadoff HR...1-0 Astros
-
No fucking shutout today!
-
Altuve = Ricky Henderson
-
T1:
Altuve homers to LCF
Springer pops out to SS
Correa...full count...walks
Rasmus flies out F7
Gattis takes two fat pitches right down the center, then strikes out swinging at a pitch in the dirt
1-0 Astros
-
I hope he gets shelled today, but I'm pulling for Rich Hill overall. Career renaissance at 36? That's awesome.
-
Gattis takes two fat pitches right down the center, then strikes out swinging at a pitch in the dirt
With Carter gone, I think Gattis has taken the mantle for "most frustrating AB to watch".
-
B1:
Burns grounds out 3U
Lowrie ground into the shift 6-3
Reddick grounds out 5-3
Nice first inning for Fister
1-0 Astros
-

Agreed. Always hacking at shit and watching cookies. When he actually swings at ones he should (all too rare), he's pretty talented.
-

He has strong competition.
-
T2:
White grounds out 4-3
Tucker grounds out 4-3
Marwin grounds out 6-3
1-0
-
I wonder if the shift is as effective as the percentages would indicate when a pitcher is a soft tosser like Feldman. My guess is that it's not.

Instead of a quick 1,2,3 inning the A's have 2 on with one out because the Astros insist on moving infielders away from the place where infielders play.
-
Umm, maybe we shouldn't shift so hard if we're going to pitch on the outside of the plate?

I also wonder if their data is where the hitters usually hit, or where the hitters usually hit while facing a shift. There are definitely guys who are able and willing to beat a shift.
-
B2:
Davis grounds to 2B, no one is there on the shift...single
Vogt pops out F4
Crisp with a lazy ground ball to SS, but guess what...shift is on so no one is there...Davis to 2B
Coghlan strikes out swinging
Alonzo walks on four pitches, Davis to 3B, Vogt to 2B
Semien breaks his bat on a little pop to SS, Correa lets it drop at his feet, flips to 2B to force Alonzo on a VERY close play.
Fister has to get five outs, and the Astros still lead 1-0 after two
-
The force out at second with the bases loaded is the first instance of good fortune breaking the Astros' way in over a week.

It looked like that ball had some nasty spin on it.
-
Time for Springer to do some damage.
-
Well, he did some damage to the bat.
-
Damn, Colby just missed a granny there.

Springer quickly 0-2...grounds into FC, Altuve out 5-4, Castro to 3B...A's challenging...confirmed
Correa takes two cookie fastballs...works the count full...walks, Springer to 2B
Rasmus with a sac fly to RF, Castro scores, Springer moves to 3B
Gattis pops to 1B in foul ground, Alonzo alligator arms it and it drops...E3 and Gattis gets another chance...works the count full, and walks, Correa to 2B
White pops out F5
Astros go 0 for 3 w/RISP, leave the bases loaded...but get another run...lead 2-0
-
A lot of things broke the Astros way in that inning.
-
Gomez would have had that one.
-

Reddick...quickly 0-2...1-2...2-2...3-2...grounds out 6-3, Lowrie to 3B

Tough luck for Castro there.

-
T6:
Gattis flies out F9
White is an absolute wreck as he's called out on strikes
Tucker...full count...smashed one up middle, but Semien makes a great stop and throws him out 6-3

B6:
Lowrie strikes out swinging
Reddick hits a routine groundball to SS, but that fucking shift...single

Marwin strikes out swinging
Castro draws four pitch walk
Altuve grounds into 4-6-3 double play
2-0 still
-
That wasn't very friendly of Lowrie.
-
Fister working at 85-86. God help us all.
-
A bunch of hits, and it's 2-1 and the A's with runners on the corner with two out. Fister out, Sipp in...

One of which was the fourth shift aided hit for the A's. Hit hard, but right at a vacated SS.
-
B7:
Crisp lines out to RF on a diving grab by Springer!
Coghlan singles to CF
Alonzo singles to LF, Coghlan to 3B
Semien singles to CF, Coghlan scores, Alonzo to 2B

Correa pops out F4
Rasmus flies out F9
2-1 Astros
-

Okay White time to do something
Damn it. close
-
Hit the shit out of it, anyway.
-
Damn it. close
That was a nice play by Burns. That's a difficult ball when you have to go straight back with no angle to judge it by.
-
T9:
Phegley behind the dish for Oakland...
Gattis...full count...draws a leadoff walk
White flies out F8
That's it for Rodriguez, Marc "I'd Like to Buy a Vowel" Rzepczynski in...

Astros win 2-1!
-
Nice. Good win. Hopefully will be the first of many
-
Undefeated in May!
-
Astros got a leadoff HR from Altuve, and the only other hit was Castro's broken bat flair single in the 3rd. But it was enough.
-
Get the scuffling twins next - good chance to get this ship turned around.

I think that means you have to have that before the next game, too.

You're right. Keuchel, Harris, and Gregerson make three.
