Jason Castro lines a high fastball in to left center for a single.
Altuve grounds out third to first.

Gomez, by the way, isn't out of the lineup because he's a dumbfuck but because of strained ribs. Without the injury I have to assume the team would have been all too happy to run him out there again today.

I figured they were just giving a veteran a day game off following a night game.

Reddick seems to be a fairly common name. You never hear of anyone named Bluedick or Greendick though.

So true. There must be some reason for that.

Bottom 8th:

Josh Reddick struck out swinging
Khris Davis grounded out, shortstop to first
Coghlan grounds out, second to first.

Feldman with a nice job in relief.

On to the ninth.

Props to Devenski and Feldman: they did a nice job today. Devenski made a bit of a mess out of the 2nd inning, but he worked his way out of it, which was good to see. The hitters seem to have the general air of a group who don't give a fuck.

Colby works the count full. Then drops a blooper to shallow center field right between the CF and SS. Bases juiced. One out. Gattis up.

6-4-3 with the bases loaded to end it.

This team can only aspire to be a traveling horseshit show.

They're like the horeshit show that you would get with a bunch of those little horses like the one in the Amazon commercial.

I was 100% certain that Gattis was going to hit into a double play. So much so that although I knew it was impossible I was hoping Hinch would pinch hit for him. Think of it, pinch hitting for your DH in the ninth with the bases loaded. Yet the results could not have been worse. Or more predictable.

I was the same, I don't think it is ESP, just history repeating.

This is still a bad baseball team.
This has been a bad baseball team since Ike, and it will remain a bad baseball team for the foreseeable future.
They're likely still two or three years away from (sustainable/non-fluke) contention, even if Luhnow makes nothing but good choices going forward.

They started the year with Altuve, Correa, Springer, Rasmus, Keuchel, McCullers, a handful of capable relievers.... and the other two thirds of this roster is going to have to be completely turned over before the team is really ready for prime time.

He did it last year. When Lowrie hit one of his dramatic game-winners.

Lowrie would look good on this team right now. And probably good for another win or two. He could play 3rd.

But Valbuena hit lots and lots of home runs a year ago...
