Title: Dodgers/Mets
Post by: HudsonHawk on October 15, 2015, 08:27:39 pm
Dodgers miss several opportunities to break the game open.  Now they've left 3B uncovered on the shift, and it's cost them the lead.

I hoped you were watching that. Crazy play.

Runner at first, extreme shift to right side, 3B over in SS position

Hitter walks, runner at first trots down to second, 3B wanders over toward second to chat with SS

HOLY SHIT! 3RD IS UNCOVERED!!

runner at second takes off and makes it without a play.

Runner at first steals third on a walk

Third baseman (Turner) was in RF.  After the walk, he just starts walking back toward the infield while the SS goes to cover 2B.  After the play, the SS started telling Greinke it was his job to cover.  I don't know what the catcher was thinking, as he stood there watched the whole thing.

At any rate, it cost the Dodgers the lead, and they now trail 3=2, so it may end up costing them the series.

To me that looks like dicksteppery hurt them more than the shift.

I cited the shift to describe where the fielders were. You are correct, of course.

Exactly.  The shift moved the infielders.  Dicksteppery had them walking around with a base uncovered with runners moving. And it ended up costing them the series.
