I think that you must be hallucinating. Ventura is unhittable.

Altuve- single to left center

2-0 Astros going to the bottom of the first

Big there w what we are often not good at - don't strike out, put ball in play for one run. Productive outs. Nice job by Rasmus and Gattis.

Escobar- 5-3
Zobrist- single to right
steal.  throw very high.
Cain- 5-3
Hosmer- 3u

Rain since the middle of Cain's atbat.  25 or 26 pitches for McHugh

I'm done with this, if anyone cares.  My nine-month-old needs attention.

According to Dark Sky, it's drizzling and will be clear by 9 PM. But I don't know if that's 9 eastern or 9 central. I'm in the ETZ, but I told Dark Sky it was at Kauffman stadium to get the forecast.

Sparks and Ford said it's usually around the half hour mark that things get dicey for the starting pitcher.

This is interesting: if it wipes out the SPs, do we bring in Fiers? McCullers? Does KC hand it off to their vaunted pen?

Speaking of which--and not to get everyone's dander up--, I was listening to the Jays broadcast earlier and they mentioned that the roof was closed, which was the decision of MLB. They said the Jays had never played a playoff game at home under an open sky.

Score one for Manfred, at any rate.

Curious - when would Ventura reasonably be ready to start his next game? Would his 42 pitches be like an in-between-start bullpen session, where he would be considered on 'normal rest' for a Sunday start?

...and breath
I took the opposite approach. Screamed "stay in play and valbuena!"

Oliver will get his man.

Well done!

Hosmer: ball, ss, popout to Valbuena in foul territory (3 out, 2 stranded).

End 8: HOU 5, KC 2

Apropos of nothing, how cool is it that the first AL team the Astros ever beat in the playoffs was the Yankees? Fucking rules.

The way I see it, Perez was acquired to get that out specifically.

Point taken.

I'll take clueless at the plate (or to be fair,  in a bad way) vs poor performance behind it.

I haven't seen the Astros much this year, so all I have to go on is my memory of Castro's inability to block pitches and anecdotes about Conger's weak arm.

Meanwhile, the Texans were at the Indy 35 or 40 or something, 3rd-and-2 with 2 minutes left and 3 timeouts, down by 7. However stands back there for 5 seconds then lobs a ball down the middle that gets picked off.

Oh, and I flipped a coin and decided that AJ would continue to suck tonight, so I left him off my fantasy roster. Two touchdowns and 100 yards later, I think I picked the wrong coin.

I know Marwin has replaced Carter for defense, but Carter made a few smooth plays in the field tonight.

Castro's had a terrific year behind the plate.

A couple of those balls down the line were hit hard, and he cleaned them up very nicely.

Astronauts over Cows. Hallelujah.

McHugh getting Morales (aka the Royals offense) for his last out was my favorite part. Looking forward to watching this one.

Home field advantage? Don't mind if I do!

And the fox broadcast was much more palatable to me than the espn one.  I'd prefer one color guy (smoltz) but i doubt we're ever gonna see that again in a playoff broadcast.

Dunno... I enjoyed Archer's performance enough in and of itself to give the thumbs up to ESPN (which is saying something considering he had to overcome Kruk...)...

I kind of enjoyed tonight's broadcast. The only thing for me is the constant strike out focal point, but I guess that's just gonna happen. I don't care how you win, just that you win. The royals only struck out, what, twice? And they lost.

Nobody I'd rather have behind the plate right now.

From John Smoltz on McHugh's performance "He executed the "Castro" plan... what I mean is he never shook him off and threw whatever pitch Castro was asking for. Give Castro credit and McHugh, they had a really good idea what they wanted to do... and did it."
