He was unique... now we will if his theory abut going to other people's funerals or they won't come to yours is right.

I was a Brooklyn fan as a kid, and I would rather see Mantle at the plate in the clutch than Berra. With apologies to Neil, Berra was the best bad ball hitter in my lifetime.

For me, the two most enduring images of Yogi come from the 1955 World Series. - Robinson stealing home in Game1 and Amoros  coming out of nowhere to snag his line drive slicing down the left field line in Game 7.

I learned today that he was also Lawrence Berra, USN - decorated veteran of D-Day.

What a life.

I read a biography of Berra a few years ago, and always read everything I can find on Berra.  Oddly, it's not the baseball stuff that sticks, and not even the quotes.  He was an authentically nice guy, and an authentically good guy.  Coach, I'm glad I never saw him play, because I'd have ended up a Yankees fan.
