Yesterday's loss for me is right up there with the most painful losses I have experienced as an Astros fan. we needed the win so badly, and FINALLY we hit in the clutch. To lose on a combination of taking a routine play for granted (Correa) and bad luck (third out hitting Gregerson on its way to an infielder), after Gregerson pitched his ass off to get out of the mess, made me ill and kept me awake when I should have been sleeping.

I agree. We needed that game. The bad news is that the Giants are going to be in a foul humor after having been swept in a four game series against the FTC, who are their main competition for the second wildcard spot.

Up until the Bottom of the 9th blown save, I thought yesterday's game was akin to the Season Saver (http://www.astrosdaily.com/video/2004Sep23_SeasonSaver.mpeg) on September 23rd, 2004, which coincidentally also happened in the Bay Area.

My feeling is that as long as the pitching is consistent they can still put some streaks together. Time is running out on this great theory and it probably won't start in SF, but I think it can happen.

Up until the Bottom of the 9th blown save, I thought yesterday's game was akin to the Season Saver (http://www.astrosdaily.com/video/2004Sep23_SeasonSaver.mpeg) on September 23rd, 2004, which coincidentally also happened in the Bay Area.
I enjoyed that clip but sure don't remember it. That team, though, was much more accomplished than this one. Their stars were older and in their prime. That team, the '80, '86 team and the '98 team could have legitimately won a WS.

you can call it a blown save, but that disaster was not about pitching.

Me neither, but there's a huge difference between a game played in early August and one in late September.

Jim, I think you're spot-on when you say that Correa took that play for granted. I don't think he was lolly gagging or not making enough effort - my impression is that he was trying not to rush what he thought was a routine play on a slow 1Bman runner. Well, turns out that 1B is pretty quick. Why didn't Correa know that is my question. If he knew Canha's speed he would have charged the ball and gotten rid of it quicker.

+1 He made some great pitches yesterday. That was a classic case of hitting your spots yet taking an L. Correa should have made that play on what would have been the first out. Hopefully, he learned a very valuable lesson: big leaguers hustle all of the time.

Even after the brain fart by Correa, if Gregerson misses that ball Reddick hit, people are saying "holy shit, what a job by Gregerson to pick up his teammates".

Gregerson is not Chapman. He actually has to pitch to get a save.
