On April 29th, the Astros won to go 7 games over .500 at 14-7. In the 92 days and counting since then, the Astros have stayed between 7 and 14 games over .500. They've bounced from one extreme to the other, but always stayed in that range. 8 times they almost went out of the range, but all 8 they stayed inside that.
April 29th -- Astros at 14-7, win against the Mariners to stay in the range
May 12th -- Astros at 20-13, win against the Giants to stay in the range
June 4th -- Astros at 34-20, lose against the Orioles and unfortunately stay in the range
June 12th -- Astros at 34-27, win against the Mariners to stay in the range
June 14th -- Astros at 35-28, win against the Mariners to stay in the range
July 4th -- Astros at 48-34, lose against the Red Sox and unfortunately stay in the range
July 17th -- Astros at 49-42, win against the Rangers to stay in the range
July 19th -- Astros at 50-43, win against the Rangers to stay in the range
The Astros are at 58-45 now. Hopefully they bust through that 14 games over .500 ceiling soon.

It continues ... 101 days and counting
August 3rd -- Astros at 60-46, lose against the Rangers and unfortunately stay in the range
There's something weird about being 14 games over .500 that does something to these Astros.
When Houston was 34-20, they followed it up by going 0-7 to fall to 7 games over .500.
When Houston was 48-34, they followed it up by going 1-8 to fall to 7 games over .500.
When Houston was 60-46, they followed it up by going 1-6 to fall to 9 games over .500.
Hopefully the bbgs have proven their point and don't need to have the Astros lose both in San Francisco just to make history repeat itself exactly.

71-57. Back to 14 games over.

nah this team defies all superstition and logic. You got announcers talking about a no hitter each out and it happens. You have 19 strikeouts and a victory. A batter with no stolen bases and 9 triples. A first place team anchored by a rookie mid year call up. Struggle against some easy teams then takes 5 of 6 against 2 first place teams. They might not win another game or might not lose another game. They might get knocked out of the post season first series, win the world series or miss the post season all together. There is not one person, Luhnow included that predicted this season. Sit back, enjoy each game and know that no one controls their destiny.

This is the 4th time at 14 games over .500. The time between the instances: 28 games, 24 games, and now 22 games. A little quicker rebound this time.
Tomorrow will mark 121 consecutive days inside the small 7-14 games over window. I can't wait for tomorrow night. Hopefully they'll bust into a new high water mark.

37-37 W-L record since that first time at 14 games above .500. There was a discussion back then surrounding the chances to make the playoffs if the team went .500 for the rest of the year (~88 wins). Let's hope the team makes that a moot point by busting right through that 14-game above .500 barrier...

125 days now. Over 4 months.
This is the 12th time the Astros have played a game at either 7 or 14 games over .500. In all the previous 11, they stayed within the range.
This is the 6th time to try at 15 games over .500.
-
The Astros fall to 0-for-6 as a 14 game over .500 team.

Boy, talk about a rookie mistake. I pledge to endeavor not to illicit the ire of the BBG's again. Game lost and pitcher out, boy, message received. I humbly submit myself to whatever punishment the TZ kangaroo court mets out...

The BBGs are mind readers. I only thought about posting how much I like to watch Neshek pitch when he came into the game last night.

You must watch Zapped, start to finish in one sitting, sometime prior to the Astros departing on the next road trip.

It's refreshing to be reminded that cruel and unusual punishment is perfectly acceptable at OWA.

It wouldn't be "punishment" if it didn't hurt a little.

That's a Scott Baio appearance!

Will you shut the fuck up about it now?
Definitely. My bad indeed. My attempts to end the "no-hitter" by bringing it up did not work with the BBGs. I'll let this die now.

I am horrified to see that it is available online, in full. No amount of beer is going to be enough to dull this pain.

The encouraging thing is in the last few attempts to break the 14 games-over ceiling tey haven't been followed by a half dozen losses in row. That type of progress is certainly good enough for me.

SOUND SMART WITH YOUR FRIENDS
The Astros are 0-6 this season when they reach 14 games over .500.

Stocks often have a high that they bounce down from when they reach it. When it finally breaks through it will often surge upwards.

Well the Astros better fucking surge through it, if they want to make the post-season.
-
Okay. Back down to 7 games over so it's time to win. Home stand starting so it's time to win. Bandwagon national media has fully jumped off, so it's time win.
It's been a fun season regardless, but f settling for that now. I am in the east time zone and I have a two week old going through his nocturnal phase. I could think of no greater sacrifice than to spend the only quiet two hours I was going to get last night, from 12-2, watching Zapped! So I did.
It is time to win.

When Fiers threw his no-hitter, I did a random recap about how while I watched the game I was listening to Leo Brouwer's 20 Estudios for guitar, and how I'd been playing through the Estudios and how strangely intriguing they were. A couple of weeks ago I got to number XIII, thought it looked like a lot of effort for very little reward, and skipped it. Then I skipped number XIV. I wanted to get to XV.
Mea culpa.
I'm up to XVII, but I went back this morning and started playing through XIII. I hope it does some good. I'm going to the Avalon Diner for chili pie at lunch, if anyone wants to join me.
-
One Frito pie, eaten. 1/2 Etude XIII, played. Examine your hearts of hearts. Take care of what we've done to offend the BBGs.

Good man. I will contribute to your antacid therapy bill.
-
I played through more of XIII during tonight's game. I think I'm going to the Avalon diner for Frito pie for lunch tomorrow, if anyone wants to go.
-
1 Frito pie eaten, through xiii, and started xiv. Not that I'm superstitious.

I may have to take you up on that. What time?

mean nasty Frito pie.
My duty is clear...

It'll have to be after 1 for me.

My wife called her parents at 7pm the other night, and was stunned to learn that they were having dinner. We're on Eastern time, of course. It was only 4pm where they live, in California.
-
Sonic has Frito pie on their secret menu. So there's really no excuse.

They were two hours late for dinner. Dinner is served at 2:00. Supper at 7:00.
-

No shit. You'll never make it in the oil patch eating lunch after 1:00.
-
So we doing frito pies or what?

Sorry, I didn't know you were still in. I had my lunch meeting, and came back to handle a crisis. In 15 minutes or so I'm heading out for Avalon Diner.

I have eaten a chili pie as a second lunch. This burden is weighing heavy, and so am I.

BTW, since you were all over the place, I came home and made Frito pie for supper. Think I know what's for supper tomorrow too.

I think I'll go get a Frito pie at lunch tomorrow, at Avalon Diner, if anyone wants to join me. Unfortunately I'm supposed to go to a lunch meeting, so it'll be late before I get there.
I finished playing XIV this morning. Tomorrow I'll play back through XV.
This is getting old. I swear my belly is expanding.

You are the man.
-
Today i'm going to see if Sonic in Florida even knows what Frito Pie is.
-
Instead of screwin' around with secret menus and such, I went ahead and made my own with some Frito's, Wolf Brand and some shredded cheddar. No diced chilis or onions but I figured the cruder, the better.
Surprised to find Wolf Brand in my local Winn Dixie.

There are guys out there opening cans of Wolf Brand Chili. I'm in awe of their sacrifice.

Last night mine was supper with Wolf Brand. Same thing tonight. It matters not when, as long as it's before the final out is made.

Can the chili have beans in it?

It's tough enough without beans. I think you should get extra karma for including beans.
-
Can the chili have beans in it?
That's like asking if your margarita can contain peanuts and chocolate syrup. This is not a joke.
-
Last night I had only had tortilla chips at home and I only looked at the can of chili. But instead of dipping the "corn chip" in the guacamole I put the chips in a bowl and piled the guacamole on top of them. I felt like a total jerk as the team struggled to get the third out in the ninth inning. So today I had to go to Sonic, it was hideous.
-
As long as the beans and chili aren't touching each other it's okay. It's safer to have the beans on the side.
-
On day 4, you really don't want to have had beans. this is for your own protection.

Can the chili have chocolate and cinnamon in it and be poured over spaghetti?

Well, at least I know now what happens when I eat a Frito Pie. Oh...and the Astros lose, too. I ain't doing that again.
-
I have to admit, I ordered the small Frito pie yesterday instead of the large. This may all be my fault.
-
My wife likes to serve them in the bag so that's what we had last night. I think I erred by eating HEB ice cream for dessert. We apparently still can't get Blue Bell in Comal County.
-
I'll have a handful of Fritos before the game.
-
Do it Neil, for what ever is good and right in this world, just do it (http://www.fastforwardfun.com/frito-taco-pie/)! The team needs you.
