This almost feels like a couple of division rivals.

I'm hopeful that this series can help cultivate some true Angel loathing beyond that Shitsmirk Pujols.

Hope the crowd fills in, and don't walk the leadoff hitter.  That's probably a double with the framer behind the dish.

Billy Butler probably attempted a delayed steal.

Yes, Albert, that's an inside pitch. Deal with it prick.

He's not  as sharp as he was last year. The league has also probably figured him out a little.

The Angels have no respect for Conger.  Any average runner is on the move. I'm surprised more teams haven't played him the same way.

Pretty rotten luck. Gattis *just* missed jacking his pitch for a 3-run jack, and Valbuena hit his ball hard and to exactly the wrong place. Meanwhile, Rangers and Yankees are 11-5 after two innings.

British kids would grafitti Clapton is God around London in his Yardbirds days. Then I suppose they realized he kind of sucks and they quit doing it.

I had a sinking spell in my rehab yesterday, and I do not get to watch the game. I have read the entire GZ thread, and I know we won, but I know nothing else about the game. This thread was pop culture and snarky remarks about various players but no pbp or even summaries of innings for folks who are not watching or who cannot watch. I know folks who participated in this insiders' chat room has a great time out-clevering each other, but in the future, can we please work the game in just a little, and I mean more than a vague shorthand reference to a play you saw and assume everyone say. I did not and will hope there is a reply I can tape.

Thanks.

I did not and will hope there is a reply I can tape.

Thanks.

Cranky.  We were watching a game as friends, not describing it for you. There are play by plays here:  http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/gameday/index.jsp?gid=2015_07_28_anamlb_houmlb_1#game=2015_07_28_anamlb_houmlb_1,game_state=Wrapup,game_tab=play-by-play .  There are video highlights and a wrap here:  http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/gameday/index.jsp?gid=2015_07_28_anamlb_houmlb_1#game=2015_07_28_anamlb_houmlb_1,game_state=Wrapup,game_tab=wrap .  There are still box scores in most newspapers.

I'm reading about the Pope right now. I feel like he should know about this. Is it a trinity thing, where Clapton is the father and Altuve is the son? (And if so, who warrants Holy Spirit, by your math?)

Nah, nothing that complicated.  Every time I see Altuve do something like he did last night, Altuve is God pops into my head.  That leads immediately to Altuve is Eric Clapton.  It's stupid, but there you go.

I had a sinking spell in my rehab yesterday, and I do not get to watch the game. I have read the entire GZ thread, and I know we won, but I know nothing else about the game. I know right?  I take a night off from the GZ to enjoy a birthday dinner with my lovely bride, and the GZ reverts back to kindergarten.

Tighten up, fellas.

It should always be PBP interspersed with pop culture and snark...but PBP first.

Then do it.  HH has done a terrific job doing the inning recaps this year, but their absence for one night didn't seem to hurt the conversation any.

I do when I'm here, but that is becoming more difficult lately. All Jim and I (and the primer) are asking is somebody do it. You're obviously watching the game.

Yep, but I'm also cooking dinner, and playing the guitar, and working, and my play-by-play sucks.  Jim's bitching.  He'd be the first person to call someone else for that behavior.

My guide shows RootSports replaying last nights' game today at 2 p.m.

I've had kind of a busy summer, so I haven't been able to do PBP as much as earlier in the year, though HH and others have been doing a fine job most nights.

Your reply was what was cranky, and if you want to call my comments bitching, go right ahead. Your description is exactly what I was talking about: last night was insider friends watching the game together and not giving a shit about those who cannot watch. I do not think a personal pop culture, "oh wow, look at that play" is what the moderators had in mind when they created the game zone. It was worthless last night for baseball fans who could not see the game.

I read all the summaries I could find this morning, looked at the box score and watched video. Scrolling through the entire GZ thread told me nothing except how cute and clever you all are.

I am not trying to control your behavior. I am saying it was useless for anyone trying to follow the game.

Jim - go to this link:

http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/gameday/index.jsp?gid=2015_07_28_anamlb_houmlb_1#game=2015_07_28_anamlb_houmlb_1,game_tab=play-by-play,game_state=Wrapup

On the right side, you can click inning by inning and see every play summary.

Here's a great example of HH doing play-by-play from July 5th:

Quote
T2:

Valbuena singles
Carter strikes out
Marwin singles, Valbuena to 2B
Castro grounds out 3-1, Valbuena to 3B, Marwin to 2B
Marisnick with a bunt single, but is called out on batter's interference.

Somehow it's better if HH types it than if you go to the MLB website?

The game was on tv.  The game is on MLB game day, with live pitch by pitch descriptions.  A cute and clever insider's chat room is why most of us watch the game together on the internet.  If we weren't discussing who was the best guitarist in the Yardbirds in a five-run blow out, what's the point?  I still think it was Clapton.

Does anyone know if it'd be possible to have a bot post PBP or inning recaps in GZ threads? I'm not sure what the capabilities of this platform are, but that data is out there.

FWIW, I like having PBP mixed with commentary in the GZ. If it's all one or the other, this place loses value.

I love reading the GZ after the game. Plenty of pop culture (which goes over my head) and snark. The two counselors are going to meet in a steel cage match, with me refereeing (which means that there will be no rules). My money is on a draw, as the two of them will agree to disagree and start pounding quality craft beers!

We seem to typically wax reverent about this site so I'll put in my bits and take whatever you think I deserve in response.

PBP was and is a big part of why some people come to the GZ and it's in the primer that every Clark is supposed to read before they enter. Many have padded their post counts in here. A few have made PBP a creative thing of beauty. Nowhere does it say that it has to be given but the understanding is that some form of PBP by someone is at least half of what makes this the Game Zone. To tell someone, especially a long-time dweller that they should go somewhere else to get what they are supposed to be getting here is a bit of a harsh toke. I could see if he was asking for something that is out of the ordinary or not expected of the forum but that's not the case here.

I realize that I haven't been a part of the GZ much lately but when I am, I enjoy and participate in the conversation and the snark. But every morning after the game I open the previous night's thread to read the goings-on and get a feel for the game from this perspective. I think that is what Jim is talking about when he asks for a PBP reference of the reaction of the group. It also puts the thread into a historical perspective. Raise your hand if you have gone back to read a GZ thread of a game of significance.

That's all I wanted to say. It really doesn't matter to me whether there is PBP or not in the GZ threads. I only wanted to see if I could help Jim make his point.

I have spent a lot of time in the Game Zone the past three years, almost nightly.  Usually  there's play by play, sometimes not.  Sometimes there are only a couple of people and not much of anything.  Last night was an enjoyable Game Zone without play by play. It's not generally written for posterity, anymore than anything else here is.   Jim rarely shows up in the Game Zone, and has never done play by play that I recall.

To tell someone, especially a long-time dweller that they should go somewhere else to get what they are supposed to be getting here is a bit of a harsh toke. I could see if he was asking for something that is out of the ordinary or not expected of the forum but that's not the case here.

Asking for something would have been fine.  "Gosh, I missed the play by play," would have been a polite ask.  Insulting the people who spent time talking last night to get what you want was not a polite ask.  I like Jim, but he was being a jerk.

I realize that I haven't been a part of the GZ much lately but when I am, I enjoy and participate in the conversation and the snark. If Jim wants to make his point without being called bitchy, then he should make his point without being bitchy.  Showing up and insulting people seems an odd way to ask.

FWIW, I didn't find what you wrote insulting in the slightest way. In my opinion, NeilT has had his dander up for the past few weeks and has exhibited a saucy side. I don't dislike it, but it is different, and i say that as a fellow bow tie man (I've got a new one on today).
