How is it possible that the Royals have played 6 fewer games than the Astros? I have noticed several weeks where the Astros played both Monday and Thursday games, but to have an entire week's worth of additional games played seems extreme. Intriguing, one might say.

A rainout or two along the way? Brownie and Blum were talking about that last night and agreed that the second half may be tough for them. They were either talking about or conjecturing about doubleheaders to be played. I miss the doubleheader myself. Used to be alot of them.

The owners hated the gate loss, and the MLBPA doesn't like playing two games in one day. However, I love the twin bill.
-
I went to a double header in Corpus a couple of weeks ago. They shortened each game to 7 innings, which I've got to admit I thought was pretty reasonable in the minors.

Did you enjoy the park?

I remember twin bills in Colt Stadium. I think some were day/night jobbers and they required a separate ticket for both.

Top of the First
Moustakas grounded out to shortstop.
Escobar grounded out to first.
Cain with a single
Morales hit a ground-rule double.
Perez grounds out to end the top of the first.
-
That double bouncing over the fence probably saved a run.
-
Bottom of the first.
Springer grounded out to pitcher.
Altuve flied out to right.
Correa struck out looking.
-
I would like to do play by play but my feed so delayed it's about 3 to 4 minutes behind, so fuck it.
-
T2:
Gordon strikes out looking
Rios flies out F7
Infante with an infield single off of Keuchel's foot.
Butera grounds out 5-3
-
I would like to do play by play but my feed so delayed it's about 3 to 4 minutes behind, so fuck it.
That's ok...it's the thought that counts.
-
Still on commercial break but I see in FOX Gametrax that Gattis has singled to center and Carter is batting.
-
Now I'm watching Gattis bat and see in Gametrax Carter has struck out.
-
Now I'm watching Gattis bat and see in Gametrax Carter has struck out.
Yeah, you're way behind
-
B2:
Gattis lines a single to RCF...Astros first base runner of the night
Carter strikes out swinging
Santana grounds into 4--6-3 double play
No score after 2
-
I don't know what's worse, that fact that Colby Rasmus doesn't know you raise cattle on a "ranch", or the fact that he thinks that's a guilty pleasure.
-
It's so nice not having to listen to Ashby.
-
Ashby must be out stalking Julia.
-
Boy Santana sure ain't much of an outfielder.
-
Ashby must be out stalking Julia.
Maybe he and Colby got a little too close.
-
T3:
Escobar taps back to the mound...1-3
Moustakas grounds out 3-1
Cain doubles over Santana's head.
Morales strikes out looking
No score
-
Springer probably catches that hit by Cain if he's in right.
-
Springer probably catches that hit by Cain if he's in right.
I'm certain of it.
-
Bill Doran.
-
Bill Doran?
+1
-
Springer Dinger!!
-
And US women beat Germany 2-0 in WWC, which I did not see coming.
-
B3:
Conger strikes out looking
Tucker flies out F8
Marwin singles to LF
Springer...gets the count to 3-0, then hammers one off the pole in LF!! 2-0 Astros
Altuve grounds out 5-3
After 3...Astros with a 2-0 lead.
-
In terms of career I hope Daz Cameron is to his dad what Jr. Griffy was to his.
-
T4:
Perez strikes out swinging
Gordon strikes out swinging
Rios grounds out 5-3
Astros lead 2-0
-
I remember that home plate collision Mike Cameron had with Q that Brownie and Blum were talking about.
-
Speed demon at it again! Gattis with his 4th triple
-
Speed demon at it again! Gattis with his 4th triple
For a second I wondered if Cain was gonna get back up.
-
In terms of career I hope Daz Cameron is to his dad what Jr. Griffy was to his.
I would be happy if he was "just" as good as pops
-
Here that play is (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GUKtIu72y5I). More violent than I remembered.
-
B4:
Correa flies out F8
Gattis triples up on Tal's Hill. Cain slides head first into the wall, throws the ball back from his ass.
Carter walks, the pitch goes over the catcher's head, and Gattis scores on the wild pitch
Santana with a roller up the third base line...no play, infield single. Carter to 2B
Conger pops out to 1B
Tucker strikes out swinging
3-0 Astros.
-
It's so sad to hear about all the turmoil the Angels are going through. Pretty funny Albert Pujols telling the GM that the roster was better last year.
-
That was the perfect mmpus triple.
-
T5:
Infante grounds out 4-3
Butera singles up the middle
Escobar grounds into 5-4-3 twin killing
Still 3-0
-
Walk and a double plate another Astros run...4-0 now.
-
B5:
Marwin blisters a line drive to LF, but right at Gordon at the wall
Springer walks
Altuve doubles to LCF...Springer scores, Altuve moves to 3B as the throw gets by the catcher. I assume it will be an error?
Correa breaks his bat on a tapper back to the mound. Out 1-3, Altuve has to hold.
Gattis strikes out looking to end the inning
Astros 4-0 after five.
-
For the most part it's fun watching theses guys.
-
Santana is having a rough night.
-
Man I hope Marisnick gets back soon. Santana is a train wreck in the outfield.
-
T6:
Moustakas grounds out 6-3
Cain loops one into RF...Santana lopes around in a circle, stumbles awkwardly as the ball gets by him. Springer runs it down as Cain limps into 2B
Morales grounds back to Keuchel, out 1-3 as Cain has to hold at 2B
Perez grounds out 6-3
Still 4-0
-
Man I hope Marisnick gets back soon. Santana is a train wreck in the outfield.
If your gonna go for that ball you really gotta go get it, he looked like he thought it was gonna stay up longer I guess, wasn't running very hard
-
B6:
Carter flies out F8
Santana strikes out swinging. He's a train wreck at the plate too.
Conger grounds out 3U
After 6...4-0 Astros.
-
T7:
Gordon strikes out swinging
Rios strikes out swinging
Infante drives one to CF, Springer starts in then has to run back to make a leaping catch to end the inning
At the stretch...Astros still up 4-0
-
The fact Springer still made that play after misreading it just shows out good of an athlete he is
-
Nothing wrong with Springer in the outfield.
-

I think of Springer as an athlete playing baseball. He looks like he is still learning the game and his athleticism gets him by.
-
B7:
Tucker grounds out 4-3
Marwin flies out F7
That's it for Duffy...Madson in...
Springer flies out F8
still 4-0
-

Eh...baseball is a game that sets you up for failure. You don't "get by" at this level. You get there by years and years of work, work, and more hard work.

his instincts don't seem as finely honed as some guys with less athleticism. Or, maybe he is just more reckless by nature. Keep in mind he is from the NE and probably has not played as much baseball as guys from the south and west.

It's astounding that any scout saw him enough to consider drafting him.
-
T8:
Butera strikes out looking
Escobar singles to CF
Moustakas grounds out 3U as Escobar moves to 2B
Cain check swing back to the mound...1-3 ends the inning
-
Lorenzo Cain is my name and I drove on the KC train.
-

He's still go things to learn, certainly. I just don't think baseball is a game that allows for that "wing it like on the playground" kind of style that you can get away with in other sports. It just requires so much repetition and discipline to reach the Major Leagues.
-

Well, he was Big East player of the year, and a first team All-American. He wasn't *that* obscure.

Well, I'm glad he's on my team. I think he will get a good bit better if he stays healthy out there and I consider that a concern with him flying around like he does.
-
Sweet play by Escobar to get Altuve.
-
B8:
Altuve grounds out 6-3 on a nice play by the SS
Correa bounces back to the mound
Gattis grounds out 6-3
Headed to the 9th...Astros with the 4-0 lead
-
Bill Doran.
Did they ever come back to this?
-
Did they ever come back to this?
Yeah, they finally confirmed it was Doran.
-

He generally gets good reads off the bat and gets a good jump on the ball. That said his athleticism let's him get to balls even when his read or jump isn't that great.
-
I hate pitch counts. Keuchel wasn't laboring or tired from what I could tell.

Maybe it was just time to get Neshek some work.
-
Maybe it was just time to get Neshek some work.
I think it's pretty likely. Hinch hasn't been shy about letting keuchel throw a lot of pitches
-
T9:
Neshek in for the Astros
Morales strikes out swinging
Perez singles to CF
Gordon avoids the Golden Sombrero, flying out F8
Rios pops out F3 to end it.
Another spectacular performance by Keuchel..Astros with another shutout win 4-0
-
Maybe it was just time to get Neshek some work.
There's always tomorrow. I needed a CGSO for my fantasy team, man! The Cards can't fucking score runs when Lynn is pitching.
-
Nice win. 2-0 against the AL All-Star team.
-
Astros got their 46th win today...June 30th. In 2012, they had 46 wins on....wait for it....September 14th.

I think I like this better.

RECAP: Ho-hum, another shutout (http://www.orangewhoopass.com/?p=12776)

Excellent, but this:
"For the first time since 2001, the Astros have opened the season with three consecutive winning months. Savor it, folks."
Was the year I won the race for the lid. Just saying.
