Is there a better first five in the batting order than Detroit?

Is Victor Martinez injured?
-
Yep, knee problem.
-
The start of a tough road trip. I'm looking for The Framer to make a big contribution.

High unemployment

High unemployment
Maybe it's so everyone can get the hell out of there by nightfall.
Detroit fascinates me as a sort of newly stretched urban canvas. There are several ways things could go from here.
-
Is there some particular reason why this is a day game?
Nightlife in Kansas City starts early.
ETA: I had Kansas City in my head. Detroit, dammit, Detroit.
-
Does anyone have a media guide handy? I think the team stays at the Townsend in Birmingham but some teams do stay downtown. I can't imagine there's a whole hell of a lot to do downtown unless you really, really like Greek food.
-
Sweet Jesus, I think Ashby just set a new record for me being tired of his shit. 3rd batter, first inning.
STOP FUCKING COMPLAINING ABOUT GUYS TAKING BALLS WITH TWO STRIKES, YOU FUCKING TWAT.
-
A couple of years ago, I visited my sister in Detroit and we went to the DIA and then walked over to the Maccabees Building (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maccabees_Building) and had lunch. Detroit has a lot of neat stuff.
-
Agent Martinez! (hits a 3-1 pitch into an inning ending double play)
-
The Tigers still have the best looking uniforms in Organized Baseball.
-
Astros go down whimpering in the 2nd..
Gattis strikes out swinging
Carter pops out to 1B
Rasmus strikes out swinging.
0-0
-
B2:
Tigers get a hit, but Feldman induces another double play. Fly out ends the inning
Two in the books...0-0.
-
Price is making the 'Stros look pretty, pretty, pretty terrible so far.
-
Price is making the 'Stros look pretty, pretty, pretty terrible so far.
I'm hoping he's pitching for the Good Guys next year.
-
T3:
Villar pops out F5
Conger strikes out looking, never taking the bat off his shoulder
Marisnick strikes out looking.
Looking silly indeed.
-
B3:
Feldman works around a 2-out single by getting Kinsler to fly out after Conger's poor pitch framing cost him a strikeout.
Still no score.
-
Altuve leads off the 4th with a knock...first Astros base runner of the day. Nice job of hitting there.
-
Has Price thrown a ball, yet?
-
Ok he is throwing some to Springer here.
-
Ouch. Gattis caught looking with two runners on.
-
I don't understand what the fuck some of these guys are looking at... Price is pumping strikes. SWING THE GODDAMN BAT!
-
T4:
Astros get a couple of runners on, but can't make contact again as Price strikes out the side. That's eight K's through four innings.
-
8 Ks for price, 2 per inning. It's a top secret plan to inflate Price's pitch count.
-
I'm hoping he's pitching for the Good Guys next year.
+1. Pass on Hamels trade and get Price.

Feldman with a 2-out walk then throws a cookie to Castellanos. 2-0 Tigers.
Next pitch he gets an easy ground ball to end the inning. Shitfuck.
-
The GM building or whatever they call it is actually pretty impressive. I went there once for a meeting to look at buying a salt mine. Apparently, after auto, salt mining is the second biggest industry in Detroit. Who knew? Pretty fitting though

Astros go down in order in the 5th, but appear to be getting better swings the second time through the order.
2-0 Tigers.
-

That's what Ashby's been saying since the first inning.
-

It sounds better when Mark says it.
-
I missed the last half inning. How bad was Villar's errant throw?
-

It wasn't that bad other than it was 200 mph from 30 ft away. It was a little behind Altuve and really handcuffed him.

I wouldn't pass on Hamels, the odds of being able to trade for him are higher than being able to sign Price in the offseason. Plus, Hamels will be cheaper and will likely see his contract expire at a younger age than Price's next deal. Granted, it will also cost prospects to get Hamels, but Price would cost a 1st-round pick, himself (barring a collapse). They're both fine pitchers (their career ERAs and WHIP are almost identical) and I'd be giddy to have either, I just think Hamels involves less risk.
-
Price strikes out the side in the 6th. That's now 11 K's through 6 innings.
-
Bloop, stolen base and a double make it 5-0
-
Holy shit...Gattis with an easy standup triple to drive in Springer, who had hit a bullet up the middle to start the frame.
Astros get off the schneid.
-
That's what Ashby's been saying since the first inning.
You shut your whore mouth.
-
Ashby: if the Astros don't get a runner home from 3B with no outs, they might feel like they failed.
Gee, ya think?
-
Villar with an infield single to drive in Gattis, moves to 2B as Tiger SS throws it into the stands
Single by Conger plates Villar, and the Astros cut the lead to 5-3
That's all for Price.
-
Marisnick grounds out to end the inning, but the Astros look alive in the 7th
At the stretch...5-3 Tigers.
-
Like Lowell used to say: a bloop and a blast.
-
There's the bloop.
-
Nice piece of hitting by springer

FOR FUCK'S SAKE, CARTER! That was the meatiest slider I've EVER seen!
-
Astros get another run to make it 5-4...tying run on 3B with one out, but Gattis hits a little grounder for the second out, Carter hits a soft liner, Astros can't capitalize. Still chasing a run.

infield in on Gattis, I guess?

Chris Carter is the anti-clutch.
-
infield in on Gattis, I guess?
Yeah, and it was right at the SS. No chance for Springer to score.
-
Leadiff double for Cespedes, moves to 3B on wild pitch by Buchanan.
Infield in, gets a ground ball for out number one.
-
Okay Carter, you're forgiven.
That was ridiculous.
-
Carter flashing the leather! Sliding grab on a dinky foul pop. Two down, still a runner at 3B.
-
Buchanan with a big K to strand a runner.
Headed to the 9th, Astros chasing a run.
-
That was a nice piece of pitching by Buchanan.
-
Soria is a tough customer. Nine straight scoreless appearances.
-
Rasmus leads off the 9th with sharp ground ball to shallow right field, with the shift on, fielded by the thirdbaseman.
Tucker pinch hitting for Villar...homers!!!! Tied ball game!!!
-
Tucker!!!!!

damn that shift!
-
Preston!
-
Conger grounds out 3-1
Marisnick grounds out 3U
But the Astos tie this one up on Tucker's first big league dinger
-
Preston!
Brother Kyle looking better everyday
-
damn that shift!
Scoring that 5-3 just seems wrong, but that what it was. Would have been nice to have Colby aboard for Tucker's home run.
-
boy, if we can somehow win this one....
-
Man I like Fields's arm.
-

solid bullpen
-
Ahhhh shit.
-
That sucks.
-
Fields takes a rocket off the leg for an infield single. He looks hurt.
-
Damn I guess I jinxed him.
Harris will come. He'll get whatever time he needs to get ready.
-
Harris coming on.

Had to be helped off the field. Hard to say but it looks like it hurts like hell. Looked like just above the knee.

Cabrera is the last person you want to see here.

Big punchout. I likes me some Will Harris too.

Let's win this fucker in the tenth. C'mon, boys!

Cabrera is the last person you want to see here.
Cabrera is absolutely the last Tiger I want to see at bat in this game.

CHARGE!

These two teams might play in the only parks Gattis' ball wouldn't have left.
-
The heart of the Astros order: It's all strike outs, walks, or homers now baby.
-

that's why they are losing.
-
Well hell.
Go get 'em tomorrow boys.
-
Walk off HR by McCann to lead off the 11th. Astros go down 6-5
-
dammit. 0-2 count
-
Well hell.

You must be seeing things faster than the internet radio broadcast. What happened?
-
I am not watching either. did Gattis nearly hit one out in the top?

Didn't see the top half.

Maybe, it was a ground-rule double down in the right field corner. Tigers McCann hit a HR in the top of the 11th off Sipp.

no. Gattis made an out. Rasmus doubled.

Sorry, you're right. Obviously I can't remember what the hell Gattis did.

Running catch by Gose on the track to dead-center.
