MCullers makes it through the first with only a walk.

Altuve steals 2nd, 1 pitch after painful looking HBP.

He's a hell of a lot rangier than I had surmised from what I'd read. I mean, he looks a lot more like Jordan Lyles than he does Billy Wagner. He throws more like Wagner, though.

I like the sac bunt moving Altuve to 3B, trying to get a quick lead for McCullers.

I'm thinking the BBGs like the Astros.

With all the sincere modesty I can muster...I'll put my strategic thinking cap up against his any day of the week.

Ever notice how the shit he complains about ranges from what seems like common sense to the universe to just baffling over-attention to minutia?

McCullers really laboring here in the 2nd.

He's kind of been all of the place, too, which means he's not getting many of the borderline calls.

None.  In fact, he's getting squeezed.  But he's kinda all over the place.

He probably thought the home plate ump would be better at the MLB level.

And a golden opportunity blown. Evan: with 1 out and the bases loaded, I might suggest NOT swinging at a pitch below the knees.

Rats, wasted opportunity there.

Carter flashing the leather. I was certainly a doubter, but he's been good in the field.

He has. Little did we know, he was on the team for his defense.

Rookie deal. Springer had Superman.

Some good ABs by Tucker and Carter. Nice hustle by the rookie. Don't waste this opportunity.

Man, this is one slow game. How many full counts have there been?
Title: Re: Athletics @ Astros May 18, 2015
Post by: BudGirl on May 18, 2015, 09:00:18 pm
Between the two teams, there have been 3 or 4 bases loaded situations.  Lot of runners with low scores.

I'd bet $2 that was Villar's first 4-pitch walk in the majors.

No shit. For a game with a handful of hits and a pair of runs, it's been in slow motion.

Getting Pomeranz out should help. He was in no hurry to pitch the ball out there.

Is there a shortage of batting gloves in the clubhouse? Tucker, Rasmussen and Gattis are all barehanded.

Title: Re: Athletics @ Astros May 18, 2015

Thatcher not being able to throw a fucking strike isn't speeding things up. Walks the bases loaded with no outs and leaves his mess to Will Harris.

Harris gets a comebacker to get a 1-2 out, bases still loaded, 1 out.

Oakland would have a hipster second baseman. He probably uses a vintage viola case for bat bag too.

Carter with another nice play for the old 3-2 twin killing.

Nice job by Harris to keep that inning from getting away from them.

2-1 A's.

What in the hell is the deal with Ashby and Certs? Is this some labored, private joke that I don't know about? Or is Alan Ashby literally the only person in North America who regularly thinks about and wishes to comment on Certs? I am being serious here.

He and Blummer got into a breath mint discussion the other day, and apparently he's still cracking himself up over it.
