Twitter says AJ Hinch.

Cabrera hints at it as well (http://www.spikesnstars.com/forums/index.php?topic=117230.msg506972#msg506972).

Some interesting stuff here (http://www.nytimes.com/2009/05/19/sports/baseball/19hinch.html?_r=0).
But Arizona’s young foundation appeared to underachieve last season— the team finished 82-80, two games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers in the pallid National League West — and a poor start to 2009 doomed Melvin, who was popular among players but less so in a front office that questioned his commitment to the club’s build-from-within philosophies. General Manager Josh Byrnes explained Hinch’s arrival by repeatedly citing his “organizational advocacy,” a euphemism for which the team was roundly mocked; Hinch’s page on the Web site Baseball-Reference.com was quickly sponsored by a Diamondbacks fan who cackled, “A J Hinch ... brimming with organizational advocacy.”

He has a psychology degree from Stanford.

So does my wife. BIG red flag.

Sure looks like a targeted hire. Like they knew who they were going to pick already.

Was a catcher there, as well. He and Castro should get along.

I'm still pissed off that they fired Altuve.

Finch looks like he could be Luhnow's brother.

This doesn't sound like a good hire. Gardenhire became available today. He's a really good manager; I'd have liked to see what he could have done, rather than the gadfly oddball they hired. Another PR mistake, in my opinion.

Doesn't really seem like a PR mistake. It would take some effort to form an opinion one way or another with this move.

I wonder if Gardenhire wants to manage or at least take a year or two off. Wouldn't be surprised to see him take an organizational job with Twins. I doubt he was anything what Luhnow was looking for. I remember seeing him play SS often at Texas.

Yeah, none of us have a clue if he's a good manager or not.

Well, we do know this. He didn't do a particularly good job in Arizona. Granted, he was very young, 34, but according to the press reports from back then, he lost the clubhouse due to his unconventional methods. He and Luhnow will get along well. He'll do exactly what Luhow wants, in my opinion.

I'll be more charitable and say that this hire is more likely to appreciate the perspective of the FO.
What it really means in all likelihood is that the countdown has started on Ground Control and Major Jeff. He has his ideal manager and he also has an owner who has publicly expressed dissatisfaction in how the last firing went down. And, presumably, the owner wants to win some day. I would imagine that Major Jeff's tether for his extra vehicular activity is getting a bit more taut.

I wasn't "charitable" because I've grown a bit weary of being charitable to the current regime. I'm growing skeptical that this current crew can run a well-run FO. I'm going to give Hinch the benefit of the doubt and support him because he's the manager of the Astros. But I might be the one to tell you "I told you so" when it turns out badly.
-
I worry that he will fit in better with management than the players, but I don't know much. I hope the FO can get him some players in the offseason to help him out.

I missed this... What did Crane say about Porter's firing?
ETA -- Nevermind, saw it on the other thread.
