But he just got a handful of ABs this time.

The only thing remotely surprising about this move is that Fowler is actually, really coming off the DL. Remember how it was just supposed to be a few-days thing at first? Then he was supposed to come off a couple weeks before the AS break, then a week before, then right after...

Springer's DL stint has some of the same characteristics.

The Astros have 8 people in today's lineup with a batting average of .200 or higher (Singleton, .191, being the outlier).  Sadly, that ties a season high.

WTF!  Are you an Astros fan or an optimist?

A 3-for-4 day gets Singleton up to .201.  Here we go.

Are the two mutually exclusive?

Ensberg (https://twitter.com/MorganEnsberg/status/499921963008004096): My 8 yr old son Beckett just broke my heart. "Did the @Astros win?" No. "That's ok. They're used to losing. Do you think they care?"

Do you think they care?

I was going to make a belabored Godot reference and as erudite and amusing as it surely would have been I decided not to. Instead I'll simply note that young Beckett seems to have hit upon the essential question regarding this organization.

Chapman up, Hoes down. I forgot Hoes was on the squad.

Like what?

That in the modern world you could lose your connection to the other, to be sheared from that link of common humanity that binds us and makes us more than our own individual ego.  It is the curse of modern man, that failure, even in the midst of a crowded roster, to connect.

Fredia's right.  That's deep.

Qualls claimed by Tigers. Have until Wed. to work out a trade or pull him back off waivers.   (https://twitter.com/mlbtraderumors/status/504247030248923138)

And Feldman was not claimed so he could be dealt anywhere.

They made comments back in July that Qualls wasn't going anywhere (he's under contract for next year). I'd like to think they will stick to their word on that, unless Chad himself says he wants to go to a contender. Even then, it would really really suck for the 'pen. Who else can they rely on now besides Q, Fields, and Sipp?

Any word on when Springer will be back.

Saw a quote from Luhnow that said they'll just wait until the rosters expand to bring him back.  He was in the dugout last night.

Any word on when Springer will be back.

Luhnow hopes to have him back for the Angels series 9/2 or 9/3'ish...
