One of my favorites. RIP.

Rockford Files was one of my all-time favorites.

Me too. Garner seemed like a great guy.

The first tv show I remember loving was Maverick. It was all downhill after that, except for the Avengers and Get Smart.
-
I loved his acting. RIP I watched many an episode of Rockford Files on late night television while I was a freshman in law school.

Rockford Files was one of my all-time favorites.
Rockford (or Rockfish, as Isaac Hayes' character called him) was one of the first TV characters I really latched onto, as a kid (non-cartoon). I think now it was because while he was the protagonist, he was not a fake-heroic one. He was humorous, sardonic and self-depreciating. At the time, I didn't grasp the finer points. They were subtle.
My favorite episodes were when he and Angel, etc., would run a reverse scam on some high-level crook. The ones where they started drilling for oil (supposedly) on the front lawn of a country club was a classic. I thought it drew on some of Garner's Oklahoma heritage, as well.
R.I.P. James Garner/Jim Rockford.

Rockford and Brett Maverick were very similar characters.

yes, they were.

Bummer. I got hooked on Rockfish when they started showing it after the 10:30 news every night. He made some good movies too, The Great Escape, Support Your Local Sheriff, Grand Prix, The Skin Game...

Rockford Files theme is one of my all time favorite TV theme songs, and he was awesome in the movie version of "Maverick". RIP Mr. Garner.

So long, Rockfish.
