This is the MLBtv free game today.
-
sadly attendance looks slim
-
Whatever you do avoid the Astros facebook page comments. Yikes.
-
I can't believe it's been almost 50 years since Jim Brown retired. He's using a cane but he looks like he could give it to you and still whip your ass.
-
Obie pulls the string and gets Markakis to ground out to Carter.
-
Pearce grounds out to short. Two down, Cruz up.
-
Shattered bat roller to short ends the Baltimore first.
-
Pretty cool celebration of these Negro League greats.
-
Is there a secret to watching this "free game"?
-
First pitch pop out by Altuve.
-
wish they would calm down about springer geeze
-

Fire up MLB.TV.
-
Fire up MLB.TV.
Unless you are in the Baltimore viewing area in which case you have a blackout restriction.
-
Fire up MLB.TV.
Thanks. Finally clicked the correct link.
-
Springer grounds out to the pitcher.
-
Fowler grounds out to first on the first pitch. Scoreless after one.
-
Adam Jones is not looking to hit singles.
-
Right in the cup there!
-
Dang. Full on shot. Ow.
-
Obie went back to the low breaker but Jones slashed it down the line and off the Jut for two.
-
Davis hits one off the sky for a fly out to left.
-
Obie has a pretty nasty changeup.
-
Hardy with a hard single that whips under Dingo's glove. Jones scores.
-
Machado pops out to right.
-
Delayed game. My phone tells me what is happening before it happens.
-
Passed ball, sloppy play by Castro.
-
Schoop grounds out to short. 1-0 Orioles.
-
Delayed game. My phone tells me what is happening before it happens.
Mlb.tv is usually like that to some extent.
-
Passed ball, sloppy play by Castro.
yep. No reason for that. Didn't hurt this time, but that is not an excuse.
-
Punch him, Brownie. Fuck him up.
-
Mlb.tv is usually like that to some extent.
My first experience. I'm trying to cook dinner, too. The phone goes off with the scoring message........................video.
-
Stab him in the neck with your pen.
-
Rays v Red Sox is compelling viewing at the moment, the boys are getting pretty testy.
-
Castro flies out to center.
-
Dingo with a soft pop out to second.
-
Fucking piece of shit. Cocksucking bastard. Fuck you, you son of a bitch.
-
Carter fouls out to third. 1-0 after two.
-
Fucking piece of shit. Cocksucking bastard. Fuck you, you son of a bitch.
Bud sighting? I'm watching the Baltimore feed.
-
Carter swings at a 3-0 pitch in his eyes and guess what...pops it up. Imagine that.
-
Let me know when that piece of crap is gone from the booth. I'll take it off mute.
-
Let me know when that piece of crap is gone from the booth. I'll take it off mute.
Didn't know you hated Frank Robinson so much.
-
80 years old. I can't wait to piss on Selig's grave. I'm gonna drink a gallon of Mountain Dew and eat a pound of asparagus before I do it, too.
-
Let me know when that piece of crap is gone from the booth. I'll take it off mute.
He's gone.
-
I walked out to get the shrimp and mushrooms ready for the pasta. Yes, I could have taken the laptop to the kitchen, just didn't want to break it while he was vomiting on the game.
-
80 years old. I can't wait to piss on Selig's grave. I'm gonna drink a gallon of Mountain Dew and eat a pound of asparagus before I do it, too.
I'll shit on his grave.
-
"That clean look"? Looks like high school to me.
-
I'll shit on his grave.
Go for a bow.
-
Bud sighting? I'm watching the Baltimore feed.
Yeah, in the booth for a bit.
-
Uneventful 1-2-3 inning for Baltimore.
-
Presley grounds out weakly to short.
-
Oh no, he has made it to my channel. The virus is spreading.
-
Grossman pops out to third.
-
I think we should make a pact, here and now. Group trip to Selig's grave so we can defile it on a legendary scale.
-
So much for the perfecto. Villar walks.
-
Brownie, talking about 'regression to the mean.'
-
I think we should make a pact, here and now. Group trip to Selig's grave so we can defile it on a legendary scale.
I'm in.
-
I'm in.
We could be heroes.
-
Altuve nubs out. 1-0 Charm City after three.
-
Cruz flares a single to center.
-
Jones fouls out to Carter.
-
Nobody in that luxury box is hovering around Jim Brown. Nobody.
-
4-6-3 twin killing ends the Baltimore half of the fourth.
-
Villar and Altuve sure turn a nice double play.
-
Thanks for doing the PBP, Mr. Brand....
-
"Another glass of wine, Mr. Brown?"
"Grrrrr."
"Fajita?"
"Grrrrr."
-
Thanks for doing the PBP, Mr. Brand....
I'm just glad to be here for once. It's been a while.
-
Nobody in that luxury box is hovering around Jim Brown. Nobody.
Particularly the women.
-
Springer just got under that one and flew out to left.
-
Particularly the women.
He only tells them once.
-
Porter gives a good interview. Not having CSNH, I don't get to hear him often enough.
-
Fowler whiffs.
-
Castro is possibly grazed by a pitch and he's on first.
-
Wild pitch moves Castro to second.
-
Porter gives a good interview. Not having CSNH, I don't get to hear him often enough.
I agree 100% from the stuff I've seen on the web.
-
Luhnow is a first-rate interview as well. Not that makes a winning team in either case.
-
Man we should have kept Steve Pearce.
-
Dingo flies out to left and the no-hitter is intact.
-
Dingo flies out to left and the no-hitter is intact.
That was a nice catch. A miss would have easily tied it up.
-
Hardy grounds out to Dominguez.
-
It's been a pleasure to watch two pitchers who work by changing speeds and locations, not just overpowering hitters.
-
Two more ground outs end the frame.
-
It's been a pleasure to watch two pitchers who work by changing speeds and locations, not just overpowering hitters.
It will be more pleasurable when the Eagles go yard on this chump.
-
Carter won't do it though. Pop out.
-
Presley pops out. Two down.
-
Grossman flies out and Gonzalez is 12 outs away from a no-hitter.
-
House of David? Hell, my dad played for House of David.
-
Joseph pops out. Markakis up.
-
Markakis misses one up and in for a strikeout. Two down.
-
Please, announcers, remind us of the tombstones. Remind us how bad the team has been. Oh....there is a game going on....
-
Pearce grounds out to third. 1-0 after 5 1/2.
-
Oberholtzer is putting a good game together tonight. Not sure who I take out of the rotation at this point.
-
So far, all this Civil Rights stuff is about black people. I'd like to hear a nod about the Japanese-American internment camps, if we're going to be doing a few hours of PR atonement.
-
Altuve streaks down the line and beats out an infield hit!
-
Springer pops one off the roof for a foul ball.
-
I'd love to see Minnie Minoso get into the Hall of Fame.
-
Altuve steals second. Springer is hanging tough.
-
Not sure about that one ump.
-
But he takes strike three.
-
Man, this guy is given a little to hyperbole.
-
I'd love to see Minnie Minoso get into the Hall of Fame.
+1
-
Fowler walks.
-
Jesus, this guy reminds me of my boss.
-
Castro with a warning-track fly out to end the threat.
-
Cruz fouls out to Springer.
-
Jones rolls out to Obie. Two outs, and the crew is debating who wins the spot in the rotation, Obie or Peacock.
-
fowler should have caught that ball, then they rule it a hit.
-
Announced attendance for tonight's game is a little over 38,000.
-
fowler should have caught that ball, then they rule it a hit.
That was horrible. Lackadaisical.
-
Hardy pops out to Altuve.
-
That was horrible. Lackadaisical.
lollygagging
-
So all you guys are happily watching this game over the internet?
-
Lackadaisical.
Love the word. Missed the play. Is that spelled correctly?
-
So all you guys are happily watching this game over the internet?
no, I have Comcast.
-
Get some runs, there is a streak on the line.
Nice rendition of America the Beautiful
-
Love the word. Missed the play. Is that spelled correctly?
Hell yes it is.
-
So all you guys are happily watching this game over the internet?
Yes. It actually looks like a real MLB game. I get to put faces with names.
-
That was horrible. Lackadaisical.
Eh...that was a tough play. On a side note, Jeffrey Osborne has turned into Scatman Crothers.
-
So all you guys are happily watching this game over the internet?
MLB Network.
-
Eh...that was a tough play.
They're paid to make the tough play. He looked off and short-armed it.
-
Dominguez puts one in the RF corner for a double.
-
does karter need another 3 days off?
-
does karter need another 3 days off?
He needs a bat that's a foot wide.
-
I would think the baggy pants would drive me crazy as a player
-
What the fuck is Dominguez doing?
-
pat held him and I don't think he could have gotten home after the throw to second.
-
Presley singles but Dominguez can't score on it. Presley stopped, then saw the throw home from right and is gunned down going to second.
-
Woohoo, Grossman!
-
What the fuck is Dominguez doing?
He's slow.
-
Robbie made it easy for dominguez
-
Grossman doubles and it's tied!
-
pat held him and I don't think he could have gotten home after the throw to second.
He's either gotta score or Presley has to get to 2b. That was a clusterfuck
-
there have been some nice hits this inning
-
So far, all this Civil Rights stuff is about black people. I'd like to hear a nod about the Japanese-American internment camps, if we're going to be doing a few hours of PR atonement.
Yeah, and how come Masanori Murakami's number hasn't been retired yet by all the teams?
-
He's either gotta score or Presley has to get to 2b. That was a clusterfuck
would have been nice but ...
-
Bottom of the order getting it done.
-
1-27, nice time to get a hit.
-
I somehow knew Villar would get a hit into the right field gap.
-
Can we keep Ryan in the booth? He's good luck.
-
would have been nice but ...
That's baseball 101. Demerits each for Dominguez and Presley.
-
Yeah, and how come Masanori Murakami's number hasn't been retired yet by all the teams?
Hell yeah.
While we're at it , how about a tie-in with the Women's Professional League and suffrage? Civil Rights as a term is pretty broad.
-
2 out runs! gotta love it
-
Hell yeah.
While we're at it , how about a tie-in with the Women's Professional League and suffrage? Civil Rights as a term is pretty broad.
The O's should retire Brady Anderson's number.
-
Villar with a double that bounces into the stands and gives the Eagles the lead.
-
The O's should retire Brady Anderson's number.
The Astros would.
-
That's baseball 101. Demerits each for Dominguez and Presley.
how'd you like that third out?
-
Do not make the third out at third base I think is another piece of the 101 syllabus.
-
Villar is caught leaning towards third and thrown out by O'Day to end the seventh. 2-1 Astros.
-
The Astros would.
Pretty soon they're going to have to start using Roman numerals, letters, %$&*, who knows what.
-
What other team regularly employs a defensive substitution at first base?
-
Farnsworth pitching. Machado grounds out to Altuve.
-
Schoop grounds out to Villar.
-
Farnsworth is positively glacial.
-
how'd you like that third out?
Little League.
-
Joseph walks. Hard to believe Farnsworth is pitching in MLB.
-
Sipp in.
-
Joseph walks. Hard to believe Farnsworth is pitching in MLB.
882nd game
-
Joseph walks. Hard to believe Farnsworth is pitching in MLB.
I still ave a hard time rooting for Farnsworth. GoEagles.
-
882nd game
I remember when Wilhelm hit 900 games and everyone figured no one would come close to that again.
-
In googling around a little I realize that I am shockingly ignorant with respect to the general history of the Negro Leagues. I need to correct that.
-
Markakis slaps a grounder past Villar for a single. Porter is now managing his ass off, bringing in Qualls.
-
I remember when Wilhelm hit 900 games and everyone figured no one would come close to that again.
He was still bringing the heat too.. easy 95 mph fastball that they were swinging at and missing. He lost it when he tried throwing that slider..
-

A fair amount of books have been written in the last 20 years or so with some pretty decent detail. I've read a few, and recently finished a bio of Satchel Paige that was OK.
-

Hoyt Wilhelm?
-

Yeah, I popped over to Amazon and saw a couple that look like pretty good introductions.
-
Hoyt Wilhelm?
No, sorry, Farnsworth.. didn't quote enough..
-
Who is Hoyt Farnsworth?
-
Cruz is a great hitter, but he sure looked bad there.
-
Qualls strikes out Cruz.
-
Jones tries to bunt and pops out. WTF?
-
Has Qualls always ended his delivery by screwing himself off the mound?
-
Seven straight, you pea-brained pussies!
-
Woohoo!
-
What the hell was that?
-
Astros win!
-
I'll take that shit.
-
Go Eagles! All the way to state!
-
What the hell was that?
That was a lesson in two strikes better be hackin'.
-
So far, the Eagles are undefeated and all their games have been free on the internet. I might have found me a team.
-
I think we should make a pact, here and now. Group trip to Selig's grave so we can defile it on a legendary scale.
Sign. Me. Up.
-
I'd love to see Minnie Minoso get into the Hall of Fame.
Me too. I remember his comebacks.
-
That's baseball 101. Demerits each for Dominguez and Presley.
Absolutely. That was horrible.
-
If you're reading about the Negro Leagues, there are two things that will help you to know going in. (1) There were some great teams with some fantastic players. The Homestead Greys and the Kansas City Monarchs were particularly great. (2) The leagues were kind of randomly happenstance, mostly driven by owner economics. It's organized baseball that was usually teetering on the edge of disorganization.
-
NeilT, the Astros and Civil Rights. What more do you want? (http://www.spikesnstars.com/2014/05/31/can-i-get-a-witness/)
