"Altuve is such a great swinger."
-
Altuve - Single to LF
Fowler - (Altuve caught stealing) Triple
Castro - K swinging
Dominguez - Grounds out to SS
End of the 1st. No Score.
-
Taken out of context, that's a strange sort of announcement from the broadcast booth.
-
I just finished watching this week's Mad Men episode, so I was in maybe a different train of thought than the announcers.
-
Wow, Peacock strikes out the side. 4 Ks in a row? Really?
-
Moreland - K
Martin - K
Chirinos - K
Middle of the 2nd. No Score.
-
Peacock looks like a man on a mission tonight. Very sharp curve, FB ranging from 91 (a 2-seam?) with a lot at 94, 95, and he's working very quickly. Just K'd the side on 10 or 11 pitches, they looked very overmatched.
-
What is behind Castro's current swing and miss? I don't recall that tendency in the past. Hopefully just an injured hand.
I love watching the great Peacock, but worry that his alter ego is soon to appear.
-
Krauss - K Swinging
Springer - K Swinging
Carter - Doubles down the LF line
Presley - K
End of the 2nd. No Score
-
Carter with a double down the 3B line. He never looks all that sure of himself, does he? If often seems to me like he just seems too meek up there. The Gentle Giant makes for a nice character in a story, but perhaps not so often a good baseball player. I'd like to see him stand up there at the plate and look a little more menacing or hungry or... something. Y'know?
-
Presley looked petrified up there. At least act like you belong, even if you don't. And it's nice to see that Springer will keep the Biggio/Pence low-and-away slider thing going.
Peacock does look good so far, though.
-
I think Carter looked meaner last season.
-
Stroking Beltre's balls on the broadcast and of course he goes yard.
-
Beltre homers to LF, scores Choo. Rangers 2-0.
-
Odor - K looking
Choo - Single to center left
Andrus - Grounds to SS, thrown out at 1st, Choo advances to 2nd
Beltre - Homers scoring Choo
Fielder -Grounds out
Middle of the 3rd. Rangers 2-0.
-
Oops, sorry about that. Should have kept my mouth shut.
-
I think Carter looked meaner last season.
Can't tell if you're completely kidding or not, and I know it's a kinda dumb thing to point out, but he's just got this overall passive, tentative look to him. I'd love to see him have a little swagger, stand up there and look dangerous and take big hacks at all those fastballs down the middle that he often watches or is late on.

Can we get Morgan Ensberg to come talk to him?
-
Villar's putting together a good season.
-
Fuckin' hell. Fowler thrown out by a mile on the back end of a 2-out double-steal.
-
Villar - BB
Altuve - Pop fly out to CF
Fowler - (Villar steals 2nd) BB
Castro - Fly out to LF
Dominguez - (Fowler caught stealing during double steal)
End of the 3rd. Rangers 2-0.
-
Odor singles up the middle, Moreland scores. Rangers 3-0.
-
Fowler butchered the shit outta that play. Now Altuve might be hurt after a futile dive.
-
The only "hit" off Peacock that was actually hit hard was Beltre's HR. A couple dribblers against the shift have hurt.
edit: oh, and Andrus' 1st-inning double was a hard liner.
-
Rios - K swinging
Moreland - Single to LF
Martin - K swinging
Chirinos - BB
Odor - Single into CF, Moreland scores, Chirinos and Odor advance a base on Fowler misplay
Choo - Flies out to CF
Middle of the 4th. Rangers 3-0.
-
Springer got a good pitch there.
-
Jeez, what are they going to do with Springer? Those 2 ABs were terrible, even by his standards.
-
Dominguez - Pops up to 1B
Krauss - Single to RF
Springer - K swinging
Carter - K looking
End of the 4th. Rangers 3-0.
-
Karter K's on a pitch two feet outside; apparently he didn't notice the catcher setting up halfway to the on-deck circle.
-
The shift is having a bad night tonight.
-
The shift is having a bad night tonight.
The Rangers broadcasters/morons are really enjoying this fact.
-
Andrus - Grounds out to 2nd
Beltre - Singles to LF
Fielder - Single to RF
Rios - K swinging
Moreland - K swinging
Middle of the 5th. Rangers 3-0.
-
9 K's for Peacock through 5, but down 3-0.
-
Jeez, what are they going to do with Springer? Those 2 ABs were terrible, even by his standards.
Give him some slack. He's just up, and his sulkiness now doesn't mean he'll always suck.
-
Fowler butchered the shit outta that play. Now Altuve might be hurt after a futile dive.
Altuve surely does like to dive. sometimes I think he dives every time he knows he can't reach a ball.
-

No, I agree and expect way better things some day. My thought was more or less "how are they going to break this slump." I'm thinking days off or a trip to OKC.
-
Presley - K swinging
Villar - K looking
Altuve - Single up the middle
Fowler - Grounder to 2nd
End of the 5th. Rangers 3-0.
-
Odor puts in the 2nd deck in RF. Rangers 4-0.
-
Martin - Pops out to SS
Chirinos - K looking
Odor - HR
Choo - K
Middle of the 6th. Rangers 4-0.
-
Isn't Rougned Odor a character in Game of Thrones?
-
Isn't Rougned Odor a character in Game of Thrones?
I've been trying to think of joke in this direction all night.
-
Nick Martinez in for Lewis.
-
Castro - Grounds out to SS
Dominguez - Hits it to 2nd, Odor can't get it out of his shirt
Krauss - Flies out to LF
Springer - Springer singles to left, Dominguez and Springer advance on midplay by Moreland
Carter - (Martinez in for Lewis) Grounds out to pitcher
End of the 6th. Rangers 4-0.
-
God dammit, Carter.
-
Isn't Rougned Odor a character in Game of Thrones?
I'm thinking that Rick Perry should name Rougned Odor as his running mate.
-
God dammit, Carter.
You could say this at least three times a week.
-
Zeid is in for Peacock.
-
Wait, did Julia just say that Luhnow said that Singleton could be called up soon?
-

Wait, did Julia just say that Luhnow said that Singleton could be called up soon?
That's what I heard too.
-
Andrus - (Zeid in for Peacock) Ground out to SS
Beltre - K swinging
Fielder - Single to RF
Rios - K
Middle of the 7th. Rangers 4-0.
-
That's what I heard too.
“We’re not going to put a timetable on him,” Luhnow said of Singleton. “If you look at his development, he missed a lot of time last year. He’s making up for it quickly, and he’s doing well. If that continues to happen, it could be any time.”

Lots of players LOB tonight for the good guys.
-
That was a terrible call on Castro.
-
Downs in for Zeid.
-
Choice - K swinging
Martin - Flies out to LF
Chirinos - Singles to LF
Odor - Pops up to SS
Middle of the 8th - Rangers 4-0.
-
That was a terrible call on Castro.
And an even worse one for strike 1 on Dominguez just now. Atrocious.
-
I should trash Springer every game zone. Anything to get his bat going.
-
Cotts in for Martinez.
-
If I had a nickel for every time an Astros hitter swung through a 91 or 92 MPH fastball in the middle of the plate this year, I'd probably have close to a dollar per game. I mean, what the fuck is going on that these guys can't hit a league-average fastball right over the plate?
-
Dominguez - Single to CF
Krauss - Flies out to RF
Springer - (Dominguez advances on a passed ball) Single to LF, Dominguez to 3rd
Carter - (Cotts in for Martinez) K swinging

Probably a good time to score some runs here.
-
Soria looks kinda like Casey Affleck.
-
Villar - (Soria in to pitch) K looking
Altuve - Double to RF
Fowler - K swinging
Castro - K
Final. Rangers 4-0.
-

Springer - (Dominguez advances on a passed ball) Single to LF, Dominguez to 3rd
Carter - (Cotts in for Martinez) K swinging
Guzman - (In for Presley) K swinging
End of the 8th. Rangers 4-0.
I started listening during the Carter AB. Goes up 3-0, then struck out, swinging at ball 4 twice (3-1 and 3-2 after a foul ball). My only question was he was given the green light at 3-1...

Astros set a team record last night with most hits (11) w/o a run.
-
Astros set a team record last night with most hits (11) w/o a run.
That took some timely outs to achieve.

Plus they had three walks. That's 14 fucking baserunners in 9 innings, and none of them score. That's basically the equivalent of starting every inning with runners at 1B and 2B and no outs, yet you can't punch a single one of them across the plate. How the fuck does that happen? Honestly.

And of 14 baserunners, only four even got to 3B.
-
Along the lines of Reubens observation, the hardest part for me is that the starter who shut them out wasn't all that good. Basically, other then a few good sliders and an occasionally decent change/split, he was making mistake after mistake. Belt high 90 mph heaters and numerous hanging sliders were routinely missing Astros bats.
-
14 baserunners and 14 strikeouts. You at least have to love the symmetry there. At least they've got that going for them.

To heck with tigers, that's framing some fearful symmetry.

And like you said, Castro is really off. That might be the most troubling thing - the biggest bright spot from last year, one of the only building-block-type players on the roster, and he's getting routinely beat by ordinary stuff. Whether its his hand being hurt or just a major timing problem, it's a bummer to watch it drag on.

The only thing that I can think of about Castro is that something isn't right. He just looks lost up there.
-
He did hit a 3 run homer on Sunday, fwiw.

He did, but he's been striking out an awful lot.

And he's your #3 hitter, hitting .205/.295/.365, with 46 strikeouts and 10 walks. That's just unacceptable, at any level.

You're absolutely right. Those numbers are atrocious.
