Callin' Mc who?
-
Callin' Mc who?
Look at that ERA!
-
Personally I like Frank McHugh, the actor who played Bing Crosby's sidekick priest in Going My Way. He has a better arm than Collin.
-
Look at that ERA!
And no decisions thus far. Hopefully the offense will give him some support tonight.
-
Castro!
-
McHugh was just described as "someone who has numbers he would love to improve on."
-
McHugh strikes out the side with only a couple of assists from the HPU. Looking sharp.
-
Very sharp. And Ash and Blum seemed very surprised by his 92-93 mpg velocity.
-
Omg Carter!
-
Callin' Mc who?
Good question. Was he even on the roster?
-
Omg Carter!
That was funny, the way they were ragging on KK and he hits one out.
-
Presley with a show off catch.
-
Good question. Was he even on the roster?
Apparently he has been on the 40-man for a while.
Here was the excitement for him in the offseason. (http://www.spikesnstars.com/forums/index.php?topic=116309.msg487571#msg487571)

Presley with a show off catch.
Did he take away a HR? My stream froze at a critical moment.

It was at the warning track, but got a big jump in to get it.

Raggin' on KK ought to be a national pastime.
-

Yeah, just saw a replay. It wasn't going out but it was still a nice grab.
-
Raggin' on KK ought to be a national pastime.
True, but it is still a bit rough when the Astros commentary team start piling on.
-
Zunino is on my fantasy team. That was a personally damaging but immensely satisfying K.
-
Dr. Hugh is on fire.
-
I think they slipped a ringer into that McHugh jersey. I saw him throw a couple innings at RR this year and this is a different guy.
-
Someone please help Villar figure out how to hit the baseball. He is totally lost right now.
-
MCWHO!
-
I see unicorns.
-
10ks. Most strikeouts for an Astros pitcher in his debut.
-
Now 11.
-
Now 11.
This is just... crazy.
#whoismchugh
Boom. There goes your new internet meme.
-
Dominguez HR!
-
That was a SHOT by Matty D. Nice to see him starting to warm up a bit.
4-0 Astros, top 7.
-
Sparks just rescinded the earlier award - JR Richards threw 15 in his debut.
-
I don't know who theses guys are, but let's hope they stick around for at least a couple more innings
-
12

Dominguez to Blum, Mingo, to Pravata, Mongo.

Thank you! That was positively Milo-esque. Only took 28 posts for someone to mention the score.

Don't worry about us, someone should tell Ashby the score.
-
Dominguez to Blum, Mingo, to Pravata, Mongo.
You saying Matty D has mongoloid features, or habits, or smells?
-
Chapman... Valdez... 2014 not beginning well for HOU LH RPs. Where is Wesley Wright when you need him?
-
You saying Matty D has mongoloid features, or habits, or smells?
Spanish balloons? Mongo take chance...!
-

You know, the internet also has search functions for these types of moments, whereas milo did not.
-

Someone needs to get that guy a dog, or laid.
-

Matty D just pawn in Porter's game of life.
-
Where is Wesley Wright when you need him?
Chicago.

SFN, FWIW.
-
4-2 in the eighth after Justin Smoak cranked a two-run shibby.
-
Carter delivers a hit! Wow!
-
He said he'd been working on that.
-
Carter delivers a hit! Wow!
"Dogs and cats living together. Mass hysteria."
-
Villar somehow got fooled, completely, by a 2-0 89 mph fastball down the middle, with the bases loaded.

"They'd NEVER challenge me in a hitter's count with the bases loaded. NEVER."
-
Wow. I had a nice tub of smoked gouda in the refrigerator, been open for about a week I suppose. Make a nice snack with these pita chips and GAH! Covered in furry mold. Dammit.
-
Miller peers back from the abyss with a one-out ground rule double.
-
Cheese curds make a fine substitute for smoked gouda.
-
5-2 Houston after 8.
-
Medina chunking for Seattle now.
-
Altuve grounds out to Miller, one down.
-
Fowler, on the crest of a 7 for 54 run, smacks a line single.
-
Castro flies out to center, two down.
-
Springer hacking on 3-0.
-
A TUB of smoked gouda? I don't understand. There's a smoked gouda dip?
-
Springer gets the Funky Cold walk and there's two on for Guzman.
-
A TUB of smoked gouda? I don't understand. There's a smoked gouda dip?
Yep. It was at Costco last time I went. There was a small line for the sample, and every person who sampled it picked up a tub.
-
Guzman pulls his own string. Fields coming in for the save in the bottom of the ninth.
-
Cano leads off. Ain't no lead-off three-run homers, Robby.

A good smoked gouda is my favorite dried sausage/cracker/mustard cheese. I'd buy tubs of it if I could.
-
Mariners have a moose for a mascot?
-
Cano jerks a home run just foul before striking out on a curve. One down.

Echoes of Zunino.

It might be Texas only, but hie thee to a Costco in search thereof.
-
Mariners have a moose for a mascot?
Can't see that on the radio.
-
Mariners have a moose for a mascot?
Hey, if you see Malcolm Young tell him we're pulling for him.
-
It might be Texas only, but hie thee to a Costco in search thereof.
Noted, and thanks! I'm 45 miles west on 71 from a Costco.
-
Hart flies out to Fowler. Two down.
Sparks enthusing about Fowler's speed in the field.
-
Noted, and thanks! I'm 45 miles west on 71 from a Costco.
Might want to pick up an extra tub for the road.
-
...and thanks for the pbp too. Staring at gameday ain't the same.
-
Hey, if you see Malcolm Young tell him we're pulling for him.
Seems to be a lot of mixed reports about Mal. The only consistent story is that he is not travelling too well.
-
Groundout ends it. Seattle tongues the colon of victory.
Learn to love that smell, you waterlogged bastards.
-
WIN STREAK!
-

Yeah, when privacy meets the needs of some to seek publicity, the truth tends to suffer.
-
WIN STREAK!
We're riding on the crest of a ripple!

Sparks just rescinded the earlier award - JR Richards threw 15 in his debut.
I was sure that Sparks was wrong. I listened to J.R.'s debut back in 1971. I recall that it was in the second game of a twin bill against the Gints in September, who had Willie Mays, and I think that he got Mays at least three times. James Rodney Richard could flat throw.
ETA: Okay, I spiked my own curiosity, and so I went in search of that box score, which I found. My memory was correct. I just remember being riveted by that rookie who had just come up from OkC, which I think were the 89ers back then. Box Score here (http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/SFN/SFN197109052.shtml)

Willie Mays at 1B looks strange. I think I saw that game on tv. This was obviously before the Astros made the Cincys very happy as Morgan, Geronimo and Menke all in the Astros lineup.

Especially since an unknown Jimmy Rosario was in CF. But that was at the end of Mays' career. I think that 1972 was his last year with the Gints. I think that he played for the steM in 1973 but was awful.

Did you read the Willie Mays biography from a few years ago? Great, great read. Really gets into all aspects of his life, including his relationship to the social issues of the time (like Jackie Robinson essentially calling him an Uncle Tom). And gives a good account of those sad last couple years with the Mets.
-
I really need to read that. I hope it changes how I feel about him, I'd like to be a fan again.

I read it, and liked itcularly. I remember being fascinated with his early life, just because the descriptions of growing up poor and black in the South were so well done. I vaguely remember that his participation in racial politics were a bit like Louis Armstrong's--he just wasn't as obvious as people wanted him to be. I don't remember any reason not to be a fan.

Some considered him a hotdog.

I posted my compliments on BG's recap on the wrong thread, then erased it and am reposting here. Now she'll never know what nice things I said about that fine recap.

which recap are you referring?
-
which recap are you referring?
"It's All Porter's Fault". I guess it was a Sunday night recap? I only saw it today, so I'm totally confused.
-
it recapped Monday's game.
-
It was a fine recap for Monday too.
-
I'm about three days late, unless I already said it in another thread, but I liked it too. A fine recap for Monday, Tuesday, or any other day.
