You'd have to think he would love to somehow stick it to Daniels and whoever else forced him out. I for one will miss the shots of him in the stands looking grumpy and constipated as the Rangers blow another playoff game.

For a guy that's universally loved, he sure does get "forced out" of a lot of places.

He's obviously a high maintenance pain-in-the-ass.

I can't stand Jon Daniels I think he gets way too much credit and not enough of the blame. But, hey Nolan, how you like them apples?

When John J. McMullen failed to re-sign Nolan Ryan in the 80s, he was blasted by the Astros fans. How, in the world, could McMullen allow Nolan to walk and sign up with the Rangers? Well, McMullen's response to all who would listen "Nolan Ryan is most despicable human being I've ever met." No one believed him.

That comports with everything that I've ever heard about him. FWIW, I hear that Reid is as likable as his father is unlikable too.

You have misremembered this story. Again. (http://www.spikesnstars.com/forums/index.php?topic=65790.msg65817#msg65817)

McMullen was quoted as saying Tal Smith was despicable.

You've had that in your pocket for seven and a half years?  I'm impressed.

Cool, thanks. I do remember McMullen saying something to the effect that Ryan wasn't that great though. He was wrong about that one.

I think he thought/said Ryan was washed up as a player.

That's it. He said he was done. That's why they signed Jim Clancy instead. Thanks coach.

He wasn't alone. A former NL umpire that I used to drink heavily with told me straight up after his last Astros season that Ryan was losing his command and that the umpires were responsible for keeping him in the game. However, Ryan had too many effective years after leaving Houston to give much credence to that theory.
