I just read the Jerome Solomon column. The whiny little baby wants out in the worst way. I hope he gets his wish soon.
Sorry if the column has been talked about elsewhere. My Cabrera meter is in the shop.

Yeah, can you provide a quote? Bud hadn't said a single thing prior to whatever this guy in the article may have quoted that calls for this kind of attack. The only border line thing he said was when asked what his feelings on a possible trade to the Giants (after they showed interest), he said it would be a dream come true, but immediately followed it with he also loves playing for the Astros. He grew up in SF and dreamed of playing for them as a kid. Luhnow was asked about it and said it was not a big deal and was not shocked that a person would dream of playing for their hometown team.
Here's the other quote that Bud has made recently that was risky (but not bad and but unfortunatelky easily abused by somebody trying to sell newspapers):
"There's a lot going on around me. I've seen a lot of trades in my 3 1/2 years up here.
"I've seen stable, veteran players get moved to new organizations. Sometimes you don't understand why it's not you. So, it's been tough. ... Now that my name's the one popping up, it's a little different feeling. At the end of the day, I need to prepare myself to pitch every five days for the team I'm on. I've been in Houston my entire career. All I know is pitching for this team. If it changes, it changes. But it's not going to change my aspect of going out there and pitching."
"You have to be informed," he said. "I don't think you want to be blindsided by it: One day, you come to the park and, boom, you're gone. I don't pay too much attention to it, but I'm definitely in the loop. I get tidbits here and there ... But it comes down to the front office. I have to impress somebody enough where they want to come get me."
Unless Solomon had something new, this thread should be whacked

it is in today's Austin American-Statesman.
-
the article said after a recent loss, he blamed everybody and everything, including the air conditioning.
sorry, pots, if he is your cousin, but fuck Bud Norris. shut up and pitch.

Bud doesn't come across whiny in those quotes. Sorry, I don't see it.

While I certainly agree with "shut up and pitch" and I haven't read the column, Solomon gets blasted by David Coleman of Crawfish Boxes. (http://www.crawfishboxes.com/2013/6/21/4451008/jerome-solomon-bud-norris-and-the-decline-and-fall-of-western)

if he was misquoted, fine. shut up and pitch still applies, however.

The only air conditioning comment I can find is when they were at fielding practice the AC shutoff temproarily and joked to a teammate that it was due to Appel's contract (saving money). Wasn't made to the press, wasn't meant to be serious. Maybe there is a different air conditioning comment?
-
From what I can tell from this side of the pay wall most of solomon's comments were based off of cherry-picking this aricle:
http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/houston-astros-bud-norris-good-bet-to-be-on-move-by-trade-deadline-jeff-luhnow-san-francisco-giants-061813- (http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/houston-astros-bud-norris-good-bet-to-be-on-move-by-trade-deadline-jeff-luhnow-san-francisco-giants-061813-)

I think we should change the title of this thread to at least add Jerome Solomon's name to it.
Because, Fuck Jerome Solomon.

Take a step back, Jim, and read this column (http://www.crawfishboxes.com/2013/6/21/4451008/jerome-solomon-bud-norris-and-the-decline-and-fall-of-western) (link courtesy of Footer).
Summary: Norris made some very innocent comments about how IF he is traded, as rumored, he'd love to play in his hometown. Said comments were NOT to the Chron, and so Solomon pulls a hatchet job on him.

Not offended by Solomon. He is who he is. Just didn't want his blog write up given credibility. And whether you realize it or not, your opinion holds credibility.

Shut up and pitch.
Don't read shitty newspapers.

Solomon is the worst.
I hate that this thread was even started. Norris did nothing wrong and it's just Solomon continuing to add to his legacy of being a shitty Houston columnist.

mea culpa, all you Solomon-haters. he may be a dick. is he lying in his column? if so, ban me from posting for a week.

He's certainly misrepresenting.
Footer puts it best: "I feel you focused on the Giants part and didn't acknowledge the comments in their full context. He also said some things about feeling comfortable being an Astro. The way you said it, you made him sound like he just wants out period. Which isn't what he was saying, at all."
And then in response to the "little bit pregnant" retort: "You took the one controversial element in a longer story and blew it up thus slanting the original content. I find it unfair. It's how NY papers survive but it doesn't make it right. Just my $.02"
But don't take a week off on his account.

Counselor, you know that misrepresenting someone's words is not the same as lying.

Don't. You. Go. Anywhere. Without you, I might get out of control!

Footer: "it was the lowest of the low even by Chron standards."
OUCH. And I love how Norris refuses to talk to Solomon. This is good.

I haven't read the Solomon piece, but seems like she's conveniently forgetting a lot of JdJO and Justice columns.

Honestly, Norris could have handled this so much worse. He could call out Solomon if he wanted to for completely taking his quotes out of context.
Can we change this thread title already? It angers me thinking that Solomon probably has seen this thread and that it will give him some satisfaction.

Wow. What Solomon did shows a total lack of journalistic capability and is void of any professional integrity. On several levels. I doubt he even knows it. He must be a real dick.

Isn't the Chronicle now a Hearst paper? For ten years or so? They don't improve anything they touch.
