Why was he pulled in the 4th?

I think because of his shortened Spring, he hasn't built up his pitch count. They didn't want to go off the plan.

That's what McTaggart reported as well.  Also, tandem pitching!

I appreciate that... But... I always kinda thought a manager would at least give a starter (especially a veteran) that 5th inning to qualify for a win... Especially when he had a 1-hit shutout going and a 13-0 lead...

I saw that he didn't get the win.  In a game where the team has the lead in the fifth and keeps it, is it always the pitcher finishing the fifth who gets the win?  I thought the official scorer had some discretion in those games.  Clemens line didn't look deserving when compared to Bedard's.

The starter has to go at least 5 innings to be eligible for the win. After that, the scorer does have some discretion.

Right. So the win could've gone to Clemens or Ambriz. Obviously neither one really "deserved" it.

Seriously, I would not be at all surprised if the Astros decide to experiment with tandem pitching in the #5 spot. Clemens would certainly benefit (if the the theory holds).  Of course, Bedard has yet to allow a run in either role, so he has probably earned the #5 spot.

The pitching lines for Bedard and Clemens show why this rule should be changed.
