Going to replace him with a guy from BP.

Is it possible that Suba isn't interested in having his contract renewed, and McTaggart is being his usual assfaced self?

The link didn't work for me on my Ipad. What's the gist? Suba isn't coming back either? It's a blood bath in Houston for the old regime.

The gist is...for some reason, we don't know what, Suba isn't coming back.  Which obviously means that Crane and Luhnow are evil.

No appreciation for Houston baseball history!

Sure it is possible.  But that wasn't the case.

Astros just confirmed it in a press release.

Sounds to me like Suba wanted to stay:

McTaggart McTweets:  Astros release statement on Strech Suba: "We recognize the many years of service that Strech has provided for the Houston Astros, but we’ve decided to go in another direction with our on-field staff. We thank Strech for all he has done for our organization and wish him the best in the future.”

Weird that it's "Strech" and not "Stretch."  I never knew that.

Footer weighs in on Suba: he’s not moving on. They’re kicking him out. There’s a difference.

Well, Stretch had a good run. Thirty-six years is a long time. Thirty-six years ago I was attending what was then known as Oklahoma Christian College and believe it or not Stretch was a recent grad and a semi legend as the first athlete drafted by a major league sports team. I'm guessing Stretch is about 58 years old. I have no idea how much he got paid or how much his wife made but he probably is set financially. Too bad if he wanted to stay but he had a hell of a run as far as bullpen catchers go.

Bullpen catchers typically make a salary of around $50,000.  But they get extra for appearances and such, plus they get tipped by players.  All together, Strech probably made around $100,000/season.

Footer needs a huge dose of reality.  Teams regulary "kick out" coaching staff, especially when they get new owners, GMs and managers.  The implication that this somehow reflects poorly on the Astros' character is ridiculous.

I'm also wondering how big of an impact the bullpen catcher had on the 2004-2005 playoff runs or the back-to-back 100-loss seasons.  My guess in either case is not much.

At the end.  He wasn't making 100k 36 years ago, or even 15 years ago.

I guess no one likes to see their friends lose their jobs, so I can understand that.  But as bitter as she's come across about the changes the last several months, I'm beginning to wonder if she was also told to "move on".

I couldn't tell if she was slamming the Astros or the Chron on that.

Yeah, that's in today's dollars.  36 years ago, it was probably about whatever the equivalent was

I can understand that too.  And I like Footer...but I don't know what's bugging her, and she's kind of been full of herself lately.  I think you may be on to something.

Appeared to me to be a clear swipe at the Astros.

My guess, only because she left so quickly, is that she could read the writing on the wall and made a move before they said that to her. They might've had some meetings where they laid out their plans for restructuring and she could see how her role would've changed. Only a guess though.
