Title: 9/21/12, Piroots at Colt 45's
Post by: 94CougarGrad on September 21, 2012, 07:45:11 pm
Resident sickie checking in for periodic updates. Just woke up from a nap and turned on the tube, and all I know so far is that we're in the top of the top of the 2nd and just switched pitchers. Bidge is in the booth and we're ahead, 3-0.

Fernando (is that what Brownie said?) inherited 2 runners, then a single to SS led to a throw to first that was a hair late to load the bags. Next batter struck out, so... *whew*

Bidge having some nice extended discussion with JD & Brownie about the farm team system and how the kids have got to learn, improve, and "own" this team.

I hope Luhnow considers Bidge for that shiny new President of Motivational Statistics position.

I got distracted reading the "shock waves" thread about JD & Brownie & crew, and they chattered happily away with Bidge for the entire bottom of the 2nd without doing any pbp, but nothing of consequence happened. Top 3 now.

Bam! No stolen base for Marte! Thrown out at 2nd. 2 outs, whassisname with the dreads (McCutchen) up to bat.

Slacker

I'm on lots of medicinal substances at the moment. Only 6 or 7 of my pistons are firing.

McCutchen strikes out to end top 3.

I don't care how tall you are, a 22 year old hitting 34 doubles in his first full season in the majors, is good.

Out #1, top of the 6th... Altuve makes a diving catch behind 2nd and flips the ball over his body so that it bounces along the ground to the SS, and he snags it and gets the out. A Keystone-Cops-like moment went quite well, thankfully.

And while the Astros make another pitching change, I think this may be it for me. I'm just so darn out of it that I can't seem to pay attention to the game and operate a computer at the same time right now. I tried.  :P

That's about the worst way to get an RBI I can imagine: Altuve takes a (glancing) blow off the helmet with the bases loaded, driving in the run from 3rd. Altuve seems to be ok, and moves on to 1st base.

AAAAIIIIIIEEEEEEE Altuve has to play serious limbo to keep from getting his head taken off. Bases were loaded, the walk forces in a run... 6-0, bottom 6. Skeery stuff.

I've never had one, but he looks really cute. A friend of mine runs that shelter, so I'm Facebook friends with the place and earlier this week they posted a picture of #1 perched on someone's head. I'm partial to cats that travel on my head or my shoulders, so that really struck a chord. I've been missing cats a lot lately and Mrs. Brand kinda gently nudged me on to make the move. I'm glad.

I was headed to work this morning (on Spicewood Springs Road) and an animal ran across the road in front of me. At first I assumed it was a deer, but it wasn't. It stopped on the shoulder and looked at me like I was an asshole, and of course it was a coyote. This was about 1/2 mile away from home as the creek flows, so I'm sure he'll be hunting for my cats.

Yeah, coyotes take too damn many cats. We've got all sorts of crap out here - possums, raccoons - but the ones that give me the willies are the owls. Lots of owls. Big ones, could easily take a cat. There's one that perches on our back fence every so often. The first time I saw him I thought, "Cool! Look at that owl!" He'd blink, and turn his head, he was a little more than a couple of feet tall. Then he spread his wings and scared the shit out of me. Big fucking animal.

Was it maybe in deference to the throw-back weekend theme? Not sure why Fox would be eager to promote the future Astros anything.

There's an odd looking sort of logo on the giant paean to corporate whoring I mean the outstanding display of proud community partners out in left field, too. That might be another clue.

I had a kitty that looked almost exactly like #1 when I was a little girl, but for two noticeable differences... her "eyeliner" was thicker and more Cleopatra-like, and she was a polydactyl. 7 toes on each front paw (looked like boxing gloves) and 5 on each back paw. Congrats on your new kitties!
