Resident sickie checking in for periodic updates. Just woke up from a nap and turned on the tube, and all I know so far is that we're in the top of the top of the 2nd and just switched pitchers. Bidge is in the booth and we're ahead, 3-0.
-
Fernando (is that what Brownie said?) inherited 2 runners, then a single to SS led to a throw to first that was a hair late to load the bags. Next batter struck out, so... *whew*
Bidge having some nice extended discussion with JD & Brownie about the farm team system and how the kids have got to learn, improve, and "own" this team.
-
I hope Luhnow considers Bidge for that shiny new President of Motivational Statistics position.
-
I got distracted reading the "shock waves" thread about JD & Brownie & crew, and they chattered happily away with Bidge for the entire bottom of the 2nd without doing any pbp, but nothing of consequence happened. Top 3 now.

Slacker

Bam! No stolen base for Marte! Thrown out at 2nd. 2 outs, whassisname with the dreads (McCutchen) up to bat.
-
Slacker
I'm on lots of medicinal substances at the moment. Only 6 or 7 of my pistons are firing.
McCutchen strikes out to end top 3.
-
Whack! Leadoff double to far LF for Altuve.
-
Oh, ok. Astros scored earlier on a 3-run Lowrie dinger. Thanks, Brownie.
-
That'd be a fun luncheon to go to.
-
I know! Some great folks going.
Brownie just said that Gonzales left the game with a strained right hammy. Bleh.
-
Altuve easily steals 3rd, no throw.
-
I don't care how tall you are, a 22 year old hitting 34 doubles in his first full season in the majors, is good.
-
And 32 steals is good.
-
Biggio's in the booth with Milo.
-
Lowrie got ahead 3-0 and promptly struck out to end the inning. Still 3-0.
-
Nice little 8-pitch inning there. On to the bottom of the 4th...
-
Great play by the Little Big Man
-
Out #1, top of the 6th... Altuve makes a diving catch behind 2nd and flips the ball over his body so that it bounces along the ground to the SS, and he snags it and gets the out. A Keystone-Cops-like moment went quite well, thankfully.
And while the Astros make another pitching change, I think this may be it for me. I'm just so darn out of it that I can't seem to pay attention to the game and operate a computer at the same time right now. I tried. :P

Fucking druggie. What's this world coming to?
-
That's about the worst way to get an RBI I can imagine: Altuve takes a (glancing) blow off the helmet with the bases loaded, driving in the run from 3rd. Altuve seems to be ok, and moves on to 1st base.
-
AAAAIIIIIIEEEEEEE Altuve has to play serious limbo to keep from getting his head taken off. Bases were loaded, the walk forces in a run... 6-0, bottom 6. Skeery stuff.
Fucking druggie. What's this world coming to?
I got some bad stuff, then, because I still feel like poo. :( Ad I cadt breade, eider.

Justin Maxwell says, "No, fuck YOU" to Mr. James.
-
Didja catch the smack JD threw out about how the Rangers would promote the upcoming serieses with the Astros next year?
"This time... it matters."
-
Ordinarily, I'd say YOU COCKSUCKER and call for the charge to the mound but McDonald can't find his ass with both hands.

I got no problem cooking up some good ol' Ranger hate.
-
Ice melts faster than Lowrie made that run.
-
Those hats really look slick.
-
McDonald has Ubaldo Syndrome.
-
Judging by the crowd, there might still be some of those jerseys available.
-
Mrs. Brand and I will be making the scene tomorrow and Sunday...and returning to the homestead with two new kitties. I am stoked.
-
What jerseys are they wearing tonight? Colt 45's?

You wouldn't believe how many fantasy points I got from him earlier this year. Now? Not so much.
-

Yep. Shooting stars tomorrow, rainbows on Sunday.

Yessir.

Did you cut him or let him cut you?

What kind of kitties?

Well, I'm glad you asked. This little guy (http://nokill1.org/adopt/adoptable-cats/adoptable/432/1643/Roger), and this little guy (http://nokill1.org/adopt/adoptable-cats/adoptable/614/1942/Smokey).

They done gone and run a competent pitcher in on us.

Well, I'm already a huge fan of #2. We've had several Aby mixes, and they're wonderful. They're extremely smart and friendly. Don't get me started about our first Aby or you'll have to listen to hours of stories. Have fun!
-
That was some weak shit there, Snyder.
-
Did you cut him or let him cut you?
I finally let go of him today (or yesterday, or something like that). Frankly, at this point I'm trying to pick up youngsters who might be good next year.

I've never had one, but he looks really cute. A friend of mine runs that shelter, so I'm Facebook friends with the place and earlier this week they posted a picture of #1 perched on someone's head. I'm partial to cats that travel on my head or my shoulders, so that really struck a chord. I've been missing cats a lot lately and Mrs. Brand kinda gently nudged me on to make the move. I'm glad.

Rhiner Cruz alert.

Rhiner Cruz alert.
I'm not sure that even Cruz can blow a 7-run lead.
-
He's dominating right now.
-
See what I did there?
-
I'm not sure that even Cruz can blow a 7-run lead.
Well, unless he throws 6 more pitches like that.

That's awesome. Roger looks like a handful.

I'm looking forward to them laying down the law to the dogs.

That should take about three days, maybe two.

Just a little bit longer.

I was headed to work this morning (on Spicewood Springs Road) and an animal ran across the road in front of me. At first I assumed it was a deer, but it wasn't. It stopped on the shoulder and looked at me like I was an asshole, and of course it was a coyote. This was about 1/2 mile away from home as the creek flows, so I'm sure he'll be hunting for my cats.
-
Yeah, coyotes take too damn many cats. We've got all sorts of crap out here - possums, raccoons - but the ones that give me the willies are the owls. Lots of owls. Big ones, could easily take a cat. There's one that perches on our back fence every so often. The first time I saw him I thought, "Cool! Look at that owl!" He'd blink, and turn his head, he was a little more than a couple of feet tall. Then he spread his wings and scared the shit out of me. Big fucking animal.

Back from Animal Kingdom, it's 7-1 Good Guys after eight.

I got two male cats one is 17 pounds, the other is 22 pounds, they fear no bird.
-
Big cats. Cool.
-
Will it be a six pitcher win, or a seven pitcher win?
-

I'll take the six.
-
Didn't realize until now that the Piroots had fallen beneath .500. They've folded like a cheap suit. Again.
-
Nice double play!

Yep, they's got a hoodoo on 'em.

So Dusty and Davey have teams in the playoffs. What year is this again?
-

You'd think that it was 1992.
-
I'll take a seven pitcher win anytime this season, even a 7-1 win.

Watching the game last night, I noticed the Fox Sports logo in the upper right hand corner had ASTROS written in a different font than they (the astros) currently use, and it had a blue background with a little orange trim around it...I wonder if that's the new look???

Was it maybe in deference to the throw-back weekend theme? Not sure why Fox would be eager to promote the future Astros anything.

There's an odd looking sort of logo on the giant paean to corporate whoring I mean the outstanding display of proud community partners out in left field, too. That might be another clue.

I had a kitty that looked almost exactly like #1 when I was a little girl, but for two noticeable differences... her "eyeliner" was thicker and more Cleopatra-like, and she was a polydactyl. 7 toes on each front paw (looked like boxing gloves) and 5 on each back paw. Congrats on your new kitties!
