Isn't Altuve a little short to be a stormtrooper?
-
Sure does suck to see Bourn in that uni.

That sense of impending home runs is making my skin crawl.
-
Ooooh, ballpark pizza. Almost as good as the drive-in pizza.

He actually made a good pitch to pop up McCann. The command is somewhat wobbly, although he was pitching very defensively.

If this approach is going to work going through the order again, he's going to have to have a lot of help.
-
Neither pitcher is showing me much right now. I thought that Hudson had more left than this.
-

The answer is that it won't work.
-
Fucking Star Wars night? I have never seen that movie. I wonder what minor league team they stole that promotion from.
-
Well, that's a cautionary tale: Pence with the most hits (199) of anybody in Astros' history through 155 games. Altuve (175 or so) is 4th.
-
In transaction news today, both Kip Wells and Johnny Damon got DFA'd. Neither showed me anything this season.I think that's going to do it for Damon. He can't hit anymore. As for Wells, I wonder why he got another shot at all. He showed nothing against us, but we didn't clobber him like we should have.
-
Boy was that a bad pitch to Chipper, which plates two.
-
I fucking hate to watch pitchers who have nothing nibble. I realize that is their only strategy, but it drives me insane.
-
How did this guy almost throw a perfect game?
-
Keystone fucking Cops. 3-0 now.
-

OutSTANDing... [/facepalm]
-
A hit? You gotta be fucking kidding. Home cooking is on tap in the ATL.

You're surprised? Consider their history.

You're surprised? Consider their history.
I am not that surprised, but that call was egregious.
-
Schreefer thought that he had another hit up the middle, but Janish had him played perfectly.
-
What a cheap HBP. Third time through already in the fourth inning.
-
Another lousy pitch and Prado didn't miss it. 4-0 now

Its a very special evening of work for me. Locked in a room with a lying, pompous weasel for 2 1/2 hours. Outside the room is an even more pompous fool. My usual foils are not with me. All I have is you, gentlemen.

Well, you have this to look forward to: today I received my ticket for the festivities on the 18th. I trust that you'll be there?

And we love you, RB.

I sholy will, got my ducat today too. Really an extravagant and heavily appreciated gesture.
-
And we love you, RB.
Aw, shucks. Thanks.

I just wish that I could be there.

Dan Uggla is fucking clueless at the dish right now.
-

Get your ass down here. Planes fly every day.
-
Dan Uggla is fucking clueless at the dish right now.
How can you say that, he is 1-2 with an RBI tonight...
[MrHappySacometerAlert] Make sure it is turned on for the comment above there Paul... [/MrHappySacometerAlert]

That called strike three in the second was really sad. He's lost as lost can be, I must say.

Even I figured that one out! Mr. Happy's sarcmeter is still defective though.
-
Nice bunt, Hudson.
-
Gallarraga already at 107 pitches through 5.1 innings. One out to Prado.

Hell, his perfecto didn't have that many pitches, did it?
-
Hell, his perfecto didn't have that many pitches, did it?
I'm not sure, but it would stand to reckon that the pitch count was under 100.
-
Is that Joyce behind the plate? Doesn't he owe Gallaraga about 100 calls?
-
Hell, his perfecto didn't have that many pitches, did it?
It certainly didn't have this many walks...
-
Is that Joyce behind the plate? Doesn't he owe Gallaraga about 100 calls?
No. DiMuro is HBU.
-
WW saves Galarraga's ass. 4-0 Top 7
-
The Braves bullpen makes this three run deficit seem like a 100.
-

I think the Astros' offense did that just by itself.
-
Is that Joyce behind the plate? Doesn't he owe Gallaraga about 100 calls?
I think Joyce is at first. No imminent showdown.
-

He's at 3B.
-
The Braves bullpen Any person with a functional right or left arm makes this three run deficit seem like a 100.
FIFY
-
He's at 3B.
Who? I don't know?
-
Who? I don't know?
I can't see.
-
I can't see.
If that the left fielder or the closer?!? Perhaps the LOOGY?!?
-
Nice DP.
-
Who? I don't know?
Jim Joyce.
-
Jim Joyce.
Who's on first. What's on second. I don't know is on third. C'mon guys, this ain't exactly rocket science here... GEEZ!
-
Storey gets his man, keeping the game 4-1. Top 8. I'm sure that we'll see their bullpen now.
-
I can't believe that Hudson is still out there. This is our ninth inning, because we've got no shot against Kimbrel.
-
The walk to Francisco chases Hudson, so the game is over.
-
O'Flaherty on to pitch. He induces a ground ball to SS for the force. Two outs to JD.
-
And JD strikes out on the slider. 4-1 Bottom 8
-
Welcome to tonight's game Rhiner Cruz, who is greeted with a ringing two bagger on his first offering to the pinch hitter, Hinske.

I guess hanging on to him is like many of the trades lately, he's relatively cheap minor league depth with a bit of upside.
-
Cruz pitches around the double. 4-1 Top 9. Kimbrel on to save it. He threw 26 pitches last night, so he'll probably only be hitting 97.
-
Bogusevic, pinch hitting for Cruz. Strikes out on the breaking ball..
-

Yep. No reason to return him now, given the lost season.
-
Kimbrel strikes out the side swinging. 4-1 BALLGAME.
-
Clearly the 2003 Tigers are within reach, but I'm beginning to wonder about the Mets. It seems absurd to think that they might not win 5 more games in the next two months, but every night when I look at the pitching matchup I just shake my head. Although it would be sweet to avoid ignominy by beating the Cubs in the last series of the year.

It isn't going to be easy to get to 40, and that's a hell of a thing to say. I saw somewhere recently that a team of replacement level players would be expected to win 40. I guess that's what we're looking at, a bunch of Joe Shlabotniks.
-
Thanks for sharing Shreefer, but for this Tweet (https://twitter.com/JordanSchafer/status/231583536791052289) I'd've never known...
@JordanSchafer
This losing BS is getting old fast

The team will do well to win one game in every ten.

I urge everyone to go and read the recap right now (http://www.spikesnstars.com/2012/08/03/chop-chop/).

I hate to admit it... but... there is a good chance I'd've missed the recap of this evenings game but for your insistence that I read it... Had that been the case, I would have missed out on some true artistry (no sarcometer stuff here folks, really). It was, in fact, inspired! Thanks for the heads-up RB, and as for NeilT... 1 word... ASSHOLE!!!

What were we in July, something like 3-25? If we repeat that performance in the next two months, then we're in the hunt to beat the 2003 Detroit Tigers.

Wonderful read. But as I predicted, no props for the rook's initial foray into the Show in there, it being a success and all.

Not as concerned as you'd've been had your nickname'd been Alkie...

Not anymore than I am that one of my college nicknames was Fuckstick.

There are certainly far worse songs to have stuck in your head.

This is why I shouldn't go back and read old GZ threads.

And whom were you expecting, Boom Boom LaFleur?
