Title: Buccos @ Astros 07/27/12
Post by: Mr. Happy on July 27, 2012, 03:05:52 pm
Your lineups (note that Francisco is in RF instead of the Serbian Slugger, who's 0-4 against the rightie with two punchouts, while Francisco is 2-4 against Karstens--on our batting order, which changes daily, I can't explain it-it just happens):

Pirates

LFStarling Marte
RFAlex Presley
CFAndrew McCutchen
1BGarrett Jones
2BNeil Walker
3BPedro Alvarez
CMike McKenry
SSClint Barmes
PJeff Karstens

Astros

2B Jose Altuve
SS Marwin Gonzalez
3B Chris Johnson
1B Scott Moore
LF J.D. Martinez
CF Justin Maxwell
RF Ben Francisco
C Chris Snyder
P Jordan Lyles

As you can see from our batting order, it's like the proverbial rearranging of the deck chairs on the Titanic.

Precisely. I hope that they DFA him. He's just taking up a spot on the bench right now. His only value is as a pinch runner (which we rarely use) or defensive replacement, but we have Bogusevic (at least for now) for that.

Tell you what, I'll ruminate over that and other things while I am perambulating around this evening.

Meantime, I am depending on a descriptive and entertaining GZ and recap so I can figure out what the fuck happened and didn't happen in the game tonight, later on.

I know you guys will provide.

Why the fuck is Cruz up in the bullpen now? He's the patron saint of lost causes.

Would you prefer Cordero?

Cap tip to Mills

Indeed. It was his finest hour.

Cedeno has the club's only save this season of the pitchers, including Lopez. I don't want a right hander against this lefty dominant lineup.

I'm guessing Wesley faces Alvarez and Cruz comes in the face the righties

He might be the best reliever in an Astro uniform.

JD with a clutch single, with one out to Maxwell. Schreefer on to pinch run, which is his highest and best use.

I'm starting to wonder if 45 wins truly will happen. This team's worse than the 1962 steM.

I really don't get all the praise for Mills' move.  You have six outs to go, and your best pitcher gets to pitch to one batter, and your second best pitcher gets to come in with bases loaded and one out.  Could one have minimized the use of their best pitchers any more than he did?

I don't think he ever realized that the move had to have Lopez move out to right after pitching to McCuchen; otherwise, it was a complete misuse of your best reliever.

I agree that Lopez is his best. Had I been managing, I'd have sunk or swam with Lopez alone for the remainder of the ballgame. Where Mills went wrong, and he'd done a good job juggling matchups and was pretty successful up til the ninth, was bringing in a pitcher with no command. Had I been in that situation, with Lopez already burned, I'd have gone with Cedeno. But if wishes were horses, then beggars could ride...

He's saying the 8th inning is the most important inning! said JD.

Turns out the 9th is pretty important, too.
