Astros
1. Shreefer - CF
2. The Altuve - 2B
3. JD Martinez - LF
4. Kabong (or el poni)?!?
5. Bogusevic - RF
6. Downs - 3B
7. Castro - C
8. Marwyn G. - SS
9. Bud N. - P
Nationals
Don know, kinda don't care...
-
This is certainly entertaining. Three triples in the top of the first, five hits with one out and it's 4-0 with one down so far.
-
Triples by Altuve, Bogusevic and Downs. The record for triples in an inning is five.
-
Looper in front of Werth by Castro scores Downs, 5-0.
-
Marwin flies out to center, two down. Norris up.
-
Norris pops out on the first pitch. 5-0 Astros.
-
Bud's getting 94 on his heater.
-
Espinosa fans on a great slider, two out.
-
Damnit. I see that my nap missed a big inning. #rootrootroot
-
Zimmy flies out to center. End of one, 5-0 Good Guys.
-
I'm at the airport in DC and can't find the game anywhere. Fuck.
-
Get out of the airport! Good seats still available!
-
I'm sitting in front of a frat party of New Yorkers. Yipee.
-
I'm at the airport in DC and can't find the game anywhere. Fuck.
Dulles? Isn't there a gorden biersch around?
-
Schafer can't catch up to Jackson's fastball. One out.
-
I'm sitting in front of a frat party of New Yorkers. Yipee.
Time to rip an heroic fart. Hey, boot a little too. Make it memorable.
-
Altuve called out on strikes. Jackson is bearing down.
-
Martinez grounds out.
-
I forgot that I started Jackson today. Down five points early.
-
Time to rip an heroic fart. Hey, boot a little too. Make it memorable.
They are talking about the Yankees. I'll go hit up ben's chili bowl first.
-
LaRoche singles to right.
-
They are talking about the Yankees. I'll go hit up ben's chili bowl first.
Ooh. Ben's chili. That'll brew up real nicely in a couple of innings.
-
There's another very popular chili spot in DC, but I can't remember its name. I used to hit it when I was at Georgetown Law School, so it may be long gone since then. My favorite place to hit in DC was the Tune Inn.
-
Werth pops to right, one down. Ankiel up.
-
A shitty passed ball. JD calling him out on back handing.
-
Another backhand stab by Castro goes awry. I don't know how much more of this I can stand. He sucks back there.
-
I think the Astros should try to score 5 runs in the first more often.
-
That is some lazy shit.
-
Norris looks like he's got a good slider tonight.
-
Gets Ankiel to swing at a FB up and in, popping out.
-
Looks like Norris is laboring a bit.
-
Ramos singles past Marwin, the throw to the plate offline and cut. 5-1.
-
Fuck. Ramos continues to be a pain in our ass. JD made a really bad throw to the plate.
-
Looks like Norris is laboring a bit.
That's pretty much how he looks.
-
I think the Astros should try to score 5 runs in the first more often.
They must of read Noe's post.
-
Norris looks like he's got a good slider tonight.
It's got a good bite.
-
Looks like Norris is laboring a bit.
His fastball command has been spotty thus far.
-
Please don't walk Bernadina. Well, fuck.
-
Fuck, ball four.
-
That's pretty much how he looks.
Yeah that's true huh?
-
His fastball command has been spotty thus far.
He tends to have a shotgun pattern for his fastball.
-
Come on, Bud. 20 pitches per inning is not the route to success.
-
Norris has a tight but violent motion. It's easy for him to get out of alignment.
-
Finally strikes out Jackson.
-
Bud works his way out of it, but he threw a lot of pitches in that inning.
-
Gotta step out for a few, back soon.
-
Norris has a tight but violent motion. It's easy for him to get out of alignment.
Yes, I'd say that was pretty accurate. I've seen (and coached) other pitchers who also have a tight motion but stay within themselves. I don't know why it works for some but not for others.
-
The Nationals have a pretty damn good rotation.
-
Carlos Lee works an 0-2 count full before striking out swinging. One out.
-
The Nationals have a pretty damn good rotation.
Ya think?
-
The Nationals have a pretty damn good rotation.
Good bullpen, too.
-
Edwin Jackson has to make that play.
-
I think the Astros should try to score 5 runs in the first more often.
+1
-
They must of read Noe's post.
+2
-
Gotta step out for a few, back soon.
Thanks for the PBP, just caught up. ROOT.ROOT.ROOT.
-
Ya think?
I think any team would have difficulty facing them in a 4 game series at home.
-
Come on Bud, settle down
-
Well fuck me.
-
Zimmerman also is a pain in the ass. Two seamer got up. Good piece of hitting.
-
i picked a bad time to check into the game zone
-
I think any team would have difficulty facing them in a 4 game series at home.
I know that; I was just fucking with you.
-
This guy Bernadina can not hit an ofspeed pitch.
-
Melvin Edwards gets another on-air reference, together with the Facebook page.
-
It's never good to let the opposing pitcher single to lead off an inning, which Norris just did. Norris at 70 tosses already. Looks like a four inning night out of the bullpen.
-
Two on with one out for Zimmerman. Be careful here.
-
this is nerveracking. why are they not taking out bud
-
Good sequence to Zimmerman. Two outs for Laroche.
-
Laroche out 6-3 on a nice play by Gonzalez. 5-4 Top 5
-
Nice infield work.
-
Well, that was Bud's best inning, so you may well see him in the bottom of the sixth.
-
Great catch by Schafer.
-
Bogusevic can't hit lefties? I beg to differ.
-
What do you know, Castro is two for three tonight.
-
Get some insurance here, Marwin.
-
Bases loaded with one out, and Norris is going to hit here? I question that.
-
bud is batting? bases loaded
-
Go Bud I guess.
-
Bud says "fuck you guys".
-
my bad. and i am glad
-
Well, what the fuck do I know? Norris drives in two.
-
Hell yeah! Bud is The Man. You can't take the bat out of Bud's hands when the game is on the line!
-
Bases loaded with one out, and Norris is going to hit here? I question that.
Bud gives you a scowl.
-
Bud says "fuck you guys".
I know that he said "fuck you, Mr. Happy!"
-
awww
-
I always love it when the pitcher helps himself.
-
Altuve!
-
I know that he said "fuck you, Mr. Happy!"
Not true. It was directed at all of us.
-
when it rains it pours
-
The Altuve shows that he belongs higher in the order.
-
The Altuve!
FIFY.
-
how can he move altuve back to 8
-
I know that he said "fuck you, Mr. Happy!"
As did Mr. The Altuve!!!
-
Not true. It was directed at all of us.
You're probably right. But Millsie is probably saying "I told you so, Mr. Happy" down in the dugout now.
-
FIFY.
Thanks for that. We'll learn the young man before this is all said and done...
-
dobble digits? huh
-
Nice to see the wheels coming off for someone else.
-
When Gorzelanny can't locate, like tonight, he's a hit parade.
-
That looked like bullshit from here. Out, clearly.
-
where is instant replay when you need it
-
Bud got hosed by Welke. Gotta pitch through it.
-
Nice change.
-
Fuck you Welke, you stinkin' prick
-
Lombardozzi is a real pain in the ass. He might be their Pissant.
-
Millsie comes out to chat, probably to buy some time and to piss off Welke.
-
Nice catch there Schafer.
-
I thought that one was gone. Downs brought his bat tonight.
-
d0uble down downs
-
Big night for Castro too.
-
Ladies and gentlemen, the Matt Downs Syndrome! Opening for Castro the Astro!
-
Castro with a three hit night with Bogusevic.
-
I've been having shitloads of problems with MLB.TV tonight (pausing, skipping). Anyone else having issues with MLB.TV?!?
-
i am on 77
-
Curtis Granderson is 4-4 with three dingers through the first six innings.
-
Nope, I'm watching on cable too.
-
Curtis Granderson is 4-4 with three dingers through the first six innings.
Jane will be happy.
-
I don't have TV in Austin, just DoRay.
-
like a farewell tour. sad
-
JD has Granderson, eh? He's got a shot at Lou Gehrig's four homer record tonight.
-
Fucking Altuve has some pop for a little guy.
-
he plays like a giant
-
Fucking Altuve has some pop for a little guy.
Having MLB.TV issues. What did he do?!?
-
Fucking Altuve has some pop for a little guy.
Yup, howsabout 400 ft the other way? Damn.
-
The bats they are crazy tonight.
-
They must of read Noe's post.
It sure makes the team more fun to watch, eh?
-
It sure makes the team more fun to watch, eh?
Yeah, let's get a book club together.
-
calico joe?
-
It sure makes the team more fun to watch, eh?
Yes it do. 17 hits tonight.
-
Yes it do. 17 hits tonight.
See you're ready for the AL already
-
one more inning. who will do the 9th
-
See your ready for the AL already
"Doesn't matter, we're going to be in the AL next year anyway..." -JD (after trying to figure out how to pronounce some NL pitchers name).
-
one more inning. who will do the 9th
Isn't that what Myers is for?
-
myers
-
I liked JD's comment about how cricket might be his game since you can hit the ball backwards. JD is great, and Brownie is a great straight man.
-
Miller Lite has amped the douchiness of their ads to 11.
-
cant imagine the astros without them..
-

They are a treasure.
-
Really nice and, I think, important to have a game like this after the three before it.
-
Having MLB.TV issues. What did he do?!?
Drove one to the wall in RCF, but Bernadina caught up with it.
-
yeaaaaaaa
-
Astros win!
-
Myers is making only his second appearance of the young season, closing it out. 11-4 BALLGAME
-
Ball game. Astros win!! And they outscored the Nats in the series
-
Myers is making only his second appearance of the young season, closing it out. 11-4 BALLGAME
Third
-
Was that the third appearance for Myers? I stand corrected.
-
They are a treasure.
I genuinely think JD is the main reason I'm still as dedicated to the Astros as I am. No matter how bad the team might be, I will always enjoy listening to him call the games.
To put it in perspective, if JD started calling Cardinals games, I think I'd follow him there—pretty much anywhere but the north side of Chicago, in fact.
-
Every Astro with a hit and scored a run tonight.
-
And no Astro drew a walk.
-

JD is all kinds of awesome, but you have to give Brownie a lot of credit too. As Happy said, he's a perfect straight man for JD. But not only that, he has a true gift for describing exactly what is going on around him. I know that sounds simple, but it is a very underrated skill and a lot of the folks who have his job simply cannot do it well. And his guffaw-chuckle absolutely slays me on a nightly basis.

And Brownie has a wry wit and gets some lines in too. You're absolutely right; some guys are just horrible at it.
-
Watch almost any other baseball broadcast and you'll see how lucky we are. I imagine JD is an "acquired" taste and by that I mean you have to listen to him for awhile to get how clever he is.
-

"HAH! HAH! You know it, JD." Every time.
I imagine JD is an "acquired" taste and by that I mean you have to listen to him for awhile to get how clever he is.
It's the truth. I've noticed that people who haven't heard him before tend to misunderstand his style. But they always come around.

The only team that I think is close to being as good as JD/Brownie is Duane Kuiper and Mike Krukow out here for the Giants. That's a rare matchup of two former players in the booth, and it works. I enjoy Jon Miller too when he's on Giants' television, but I prefer Kruk and Kuip.

At this point I will almost always listen to Sculy when the Astros are playing the Dojers. And even then its because I know that I will not have many more chances to do so. I also find myself listening to Brewers broadcasts against the Astros for a few innings, as Uecker is also entertaining as heck... That aside, JD and Brownie are IMO irreplaceable. I also like Lucas in the mix as a 'third-wheel'...
-

I'll miss Lucas if he doesn't join the team in the switch to the RSN (I'm assuming he won't, since he's an employee of FSN). He adds another good element to the brilliance that is Brownie and JD.
-
They are an nearly-unknown treasure in the baseball world. Cherish each game!
-
Fangraphs ranked JD and Brownie #4 in their poll (http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/broadcaster-rankings-tv-10-1/). The responses were "uniformly gushing", but their methodology favored total number of votes.

I think the overall ratings are great, except for the steMs. I have had the misfortune of listening to their broadcast on MLBTV and frankly, those three guys are "blah". Hardly the stuff of entertaining or informative, two traits I think are very necessary for a good team. Jimmy D, by the way, is an unknown treasure we Astros fans are very lucky to have.
-
It's the truth. I've noticed that people who haven't heard him before tend to misunderstand his style. But they always come around.
He has an understated cleverness that is brilliant at times. He's like being with a good friend who doesn't scream to get attention, doesn't swear, doesn't really deadpan either. He just says something that stops you dead on your tracks and makes you either think, laugh, or both. Not subtle, but not in your face either. Just plain conversational, funny, and friendly.
When he poked fun at his Dad the one spring training game for asking Patti Smith for a kiss on-air, you knew the guy was brilliant but not over the top. Being over the top is a trait that is practiced almost every day on ESPN by their personality of the day. Jimmy D is the Oasis from that sort of broadcaster that everyone should covet to run to when you just need a break from it all.

Well put.

Well put.
I would argue that JD is more Blur than Oasis.

There's an episode of Father Ted where Dougal is befriending some other "cooler" young priest with very strong views on the Blur/Oasis debate.
