Dumb. Ass.
-
Gotta hand it to Ozzie, though. Telling the people of Miami that you love Castro is epic trolling. Can't wait for him to visit Israel and proclaim his love of Hitler.
-
Dumb bastard should've gotten a DUI instead. Everyone knows the penalty for making stupid comments is way harsher than for putting people's lives at risk.
-
I maybe asking for it but here i go .Doesn't he have a right to say that if thats how he feels we are still in America right.
-

Doesn't mean the Marlins can't suspend him for it.
-

Oh he does have the right to say whatever he wants, and the government cannot go after him. That's what the first amendment says. It does not say anything about your employer having to put up with it. I'm amazed at how many people don't seem to understand that.

Yep, and the millions of Cubans living in Miami whose families were driven out/imprisoned/killed by Castro might have a problem with that. They might decide to boycott that shiny new stadium. If I were the owner I'd be sorely tempted to fire him just as an olive branch to the community.
-
I guess Ozzie never discussed Castro with Jose Contreras, or El Duque, when they were pitching for him. I'm guessing they probably didn't view him so favorably, or cavalierly.

OK i agree just wanted to make sure that freedom of speech is still ok.

With SnS? Or with Waldo? Or someone else?
-
I guess my issue with this is that there isn't really a clear cut line on what is and what isn't acceptable. While I agree that Ozzie's remarks were out of line and dumb, were they any worse than Luke Scott's out of line and dumb comments regarding President Obama?
Saying bad stuff about our guy should be worse than saying bad stuff about their guy, right?
-

Don't know many Cuban people, do you?

Sure there is. Ozzie's comments about Castro in Miami were much more serious than his atypical open mouth insert foot comment.

Ozzie's suspension is all about mollifying the public. Scott didn't get people anywhere near this riled up. The relative merits of the statements are immaterial.

It was probably the single dumbest and offensive thing Ozzie could have said to the team's fan base. It's difficult to imagine a more specifically tailored comment designed to inflame the citizenry of Miami.
Luke Scott is just a general dumbass.

First 5 words of the 1st amendment: "Congress shall make no law..."

Sure there is. It's called management discretion. In this case and in this context, Ozzie's comments about Castro in Miami are much more serious than his typical open mouth insert foot comment. I agree that Ozzie should have been sacrificed to protect the attendance of the large outspoken Hispanic community in Miami, many of whom were persecuted by Castro.

Mr. Happy that is so politically correct!
-
Bench is 100% correct. management decides was is bad enough to discipline, and the first amendment does not have a fucking thing to do with it.

...and Luke Scott's comments about Obama were made in America.
I get why Guillen's comments were wrong and I understand why people are protesting outside of the stadium. I just feel there is a slight "I don't give a shit" when it comes to talking trash about our own guy - whether it be Bush, Obama or whomever.
I get it, though, it's about marketing the team. In Miami, they're pretty focused on trying to get folks interested in baseball and what Guillen said hurts way more than it helps. The Marlins want fans to show up to purchase tickets and merchandise - not to protest or hang the new manager in effigy.

**Right** It's all about the AIS and selling team trinkets.

I think you miss the whole point of America then. The President is just a person. Elected by the people and easily removed by the people. Being able to say negative things about our president is every American's right. It's something most countries don't allow. You take that away in anyway and the president becomes more than just a person. And therefore somebody not so easily removed from power.
Now if a non-American starts trash talking about the president, well now there is a problem.

I had no problem with their comment. Not to smart to bite the hand that feeds you though.
-
I will never get over the fact that we let this dumbass motherfucker walk out of our stadium with a world series ring. Fuck him.

I think Natlaie Maine was criticized for making her comment on foreign soil at the start of a war in Iraq. She responded by saying "that's where I was at the time". Had she made her comments here in USA, maybe she wouldn't have suffered as much criticism. As in all things, it's about context that drives how people react.

As expected, The Dugout kills it (http://withleather.uproxx.com/2012/04/the-dugout-opening-days-12-miami-marlins#more-80994)about Ozzie/Castro.

That is brilliant.
Q: "The guys that did 9/11."
Ozzie: "Jews or the actual guys?"
-
I'm curious. What if Ozzie had praised Che Guevara instead? Would there have been any outrage, even in Miami? He sure would have been popular in Hollywood.

To make an understatement, Che is not particularly popular in Miami either.

Interesting. You know, some will praise Pancho Villa here in Tejas (for El Norte - "North") for what he supposedly did during the turmoil in Mexico. He was a partner with Emilano Zapata (who led the Sur - "South") in representing the views of the common folk. Zapata, yes. Villa, not entirely. Villa was a bully and a war monger who was hardly a revolutionary as much as an opportunist. So if, for instance, someone was to level some criticism Villa's way in Tejas, it all depends who you're speaking too when it comes to Mexicanos living here in Tejas. My family, if you praise Villa, they would hardly contain themselves in voicing their hate for the man.

Guys like me have the ability to read, write, and form cogent thoughts. That would be one of the many, many differences between us.

Have you considered the merits of Astros Daily, Bleacher Report or the Crawfish Boxes?

I'm just dreading when the inevitable love child spawned from a chance Jester/Fredia encounter at OD 2013 begins posting at SnS.
I take it back. For so many reasons.
