No wife, just me, the bourbon, the cigars and the wide open space. I feel my soul being restored as I type.
-
Nuts. I guess all good things really do have to come to an end. The batting practice is done and I've got to go to work. I'll check in later, folks.

My cat.
Two weeks ago we took her to the vet. She'd been trending down, losing weight, eating less. Finally it was very bad and we took her in. She spent three days in the hospital and was stable but not doing well. We took her home since we were already down about $1100 and didn't think $200 a day was going to get her any better than she was.
Lots of tests, nothing definitive. We took her home to see how things would go and decide on bringing in a radiologist. At this point I'm syringe feeding her, about 120 ml of turkey baby food with a little water. Second day, she took 90. Third day, 50 and less every day after that. She refused all solid food, wouldn't drink any water. Complicating all this was a bad cold, so she couldn't smell food and the cold was getting worse.
We took her in a couple more times for fluids and a nebulizer but nothing is working. Poor little kitty. Several nights I've gone to sleep knowing she wouldn't make it to the next day. In a fit of weakness I wrote about her last night.
This morning we woke up a little before six. She stood up and walked slowly to the end of the bed, waiting for me to put her down on the floor. I gently put her down and she walked a few feet toward the kitchen, then stopped. After a moment she continued, leading me to the kitchen. I picked her up and carried her the rest of the way, putting her down again in front of her water bowl, hoping for a miracle where there hasn't been one for two weeks plus.
This time, she drank. Her mouth dry and clacking, she drank and drank some more, remembering how to swallow. I think she surprised herself before bring comfortable with it again. I refilled the bowl and she kept drinking. She still wouldn't eat, but the drinking was really like a miracle.
When I went to work this morning she still hadn't eaten. My wife was taking her back to the vet for more subcutaneous fluids at 9 but texted me a picture of the cat eating a handful of food on the couch. She continued to eat a little during the day.
She's still shaky, but she's eating and drinking and walking and purring. It's damn near unbelievable. I have no idea if this will last but I'm very very happy about this.

Carlos had a bad start but he is finishing well.

Carlos had a bad start but he is finishing well.
He's down to Crawford Box power, but he's still productive.
-
Can't believe Carlos has 93 RBIs. He has to be close to some record for the number of different players he has batted in for a season.

Astros get two more, courtesy of two walks and an E-5 on a surefire twin-killing. 8-1 Top 5

I'm a cat (and dog) guy, Ron. I hope the cat gets better.

Good for you. Sounds .like the way I lost a beloved family cat a couple of years ago. When she couldn't stand up any more I had her put to sleep. Kudos to you for pulling her through it.

Finally, Milo's back.

Thanks, asshole, now I'm weepy. I had to say goodbye to my cat of 17 years just three days ago. I'd taken her to the vet multiple times this month because of severe dehydration, but she took a turn for the worse this week and I decided it was time to end her suffering.
I hope your little one recovers and goes on to live the long life my tough bitch feline enjoyed. Best of luck to you and your family. Pets are cherished.

Who is pendleton?
Was a Rule 5 pickup. Didn't make the club, so he went back to the Yankees, who DFA'd him, and we picked him back up.
